Riding a wave of momentum from his trio of victories on Tuesday Rick Santorum has opened up a wide lead in PPP's newest national poll. He's at 38% to 23% for Mitt Romney, 17% for Newt Gingrich, and 13% for Ron Paul.
Part of the reason for Santorum's surge is his own high level of popularity. 64% of voters see him favorably to only 22% with a negative one. But the other, and maybe more important, reason is that Republicans are significantly souring on both Romney and Gingrich. Romney's favorability is barely above water at 44/43, representing a 23 point net decline from our December national poll when he was +24 (55/31). Gingrich has fallen even further. A 44% plurality of GOP voters now hold a negative opinion of him to only 42% with a positive one. That's a 34 point drop from 2 months ago when he was at +32 (60/28).

Here in IL, Rick will field no delegates.
He will field none in TN, either.
He is not on the ballot in IN
He is not on the ballot in DC
He is not on the ballot in VA
He will not field any delegates in ND
He is not on the ballot in 20% of OH
Some Santorum posters are clueless. They criticize Newt for not being in a Missouri primary that awards no delegates. They claim it's proof that Newt doesn't deserve to be the nominee.
Yet their guy is eligible for less delegates.
It all comes down to news coverage and propaganda.
The media says nothing (for now) about Santorum not being eligible in a bunch of states. Yet they gave wide spread coverage about Newt not being eligible in a primary that awards no delegates.
As I said in the post, he will receive no delegates from TN.
What Santorum supporters are hoping for is that later, the state will simply assign him delegates. This demonstrates how unrealistic and inexperienced his supporters are.
I will tell you right now: the best Rick would ever get from TN would be a few delegates, if that. And that would be a new precedent in a scenario like his. It is most likely he gets none, for anyone who knows how these things work.
Politically speaking, Santorum is a humorless Bush reincarnate. He is also short on poise and maturity, and liberal on spending and statism.
the fall of Romney..
and the crowd said..
WOO HOOO!! I mean
“AMEN!!”
It is likely that Santorum will get the most delegates from Tennessee.
Oh, and this within the past 24 hours:
“Santorum Takes Lead in Tennessee”

I want Romney to lose in Michigan and Santorum is now positioned to do that.
But long term I want a Newt comeback.
Santorum has a business as usual political record with ties to the Republican establishment.
Newt did fight for reforms in the 1990’s as Speaker and got a few so that is a better record than Santorum’s or Romney’s.
I'm not sure you should be calling ignorant.
“With un-favorability ratings this deep and with Gingrich trailing women voters by 20-points, this is not a candidate that can be seriously considered as electable even if his agenda is dyed-in-the-wool conservatism.”
Reagan had a HUGE gender gap also. But it doesn’t matter in this type of election year. The ONLY issue that the 2012 vote will be decided on is Obama. If people are (somehow) convinced that he’s taking the country in the right direction, he gets another term. If not, he’s done.
I also worry where we are often reminded of Orwell’s 1984, I am wondering if the left feminists will come up with Margret Atwoods A Handmaid’s Tale if Santorum were to be the nominee.
OK, it may be a stretch...but I don’t think Gingrich is the only one that will have a ‘woman gap’ if Santorum is the nominee.
Santorum made the comments about Palin, he made the comments about his own wife and he made the comments about women in the military. The reviews of his book, if those can be trusted also seem to indicate he does it there, too.
Good analysis
Your facts are presented to support that statement very well. I don't see any path for him either. His supporters just don't get it. The problem is will Santorum move into the Romney camp when the time comes....I'm afraid that he very well could if Romney promises him a place in his administration.....that is why he's in this....to see where he can advance in his political career.
On the other hand Newt has no other political ambitions...this is the "It" and he is free to give it his all and take down the strongholds strangling our country!!!!! Newt has the plan!...Newt has the will! ...Newt has the know how!
Go Newt GO Goooooo Newt!!!!!!
The Left is pushing Santorum and Romney to keep Newt out.
Gallup-USA has Obama givin’ Newt a thumpin’ by over 12-points. This was not the margin Carter had over Reagan. Carter cratered over the botched attempt to rescue the US hostages in Iran.
I see the potential even for the VP slot so Rick can make the faux Palin speeches while Romney goes Leftwards for the general election like McCain in 2008.
Rick could be the 21st Century Spiro Agnew to the 21st Century Richard Nixon (Romney).
Unlike some, I don’t quit.
I also don’t change course when the wind shifts.
Newt has my support and he will continue to have my support.
If in the unlikely event you and the other ‘wind changers’ manage to get Santorum nominated, I will have no other reasonable choice but to vote for him.
I wish you good luck, but I wish me better luck.
GO NEWT GO—its about the survival of our country!!
I wish you good luck, but I wish me better luck.
********************
I wish you better luck too! :p
Not really. Many of us believe Santorum no better.
Do you believe Santorum can win a general election?
There was no substance at all in your post, it was like a high school cheerleader sneering at the brainy nerd who asked her to the prom.
That one of the most infantile things I have ever read on this website and that is saying a lot.
Wow. You are really full of yourself.
“HAND!”
indeed
I am seriously concerned at WHAT evil plot Romney will now rage against Mr. Santorum. Although Rick is not my first choice, he is better than Romney, hands down.
It won’t matter if it is a total lie, or something with some element of truth. There has been a consistent scurrilous, salacious attack on EACH Conservative candidate the minute they approach or overtake Romney in the Polls. It doesn’t matter if the attack destroys the candidate personally, or harms their family, or shames them in the eyes of their supporters.
If this were the work of Obama, wouldn’t be against the “anointed Republican Front Runner”? It doesn’t make sense for the left to assault the second fiddle.
