Which, of course, is like the stem-cell research ploy. Natural birth-control is like adult stem-cell research—in the closet somewhere, never to be mentioned. It’s too convenient for the media and the feminists to lump them together.

Here’s my favorite:
Rep. Gwendolynne Moore declared that Democrats are “not allowing the church to stand on its bully pulpit and separate women from critical, vital health care needs.”

The “democrats are not allowing the church” part should worry everyone. They just don’t get it.

I'm not sure I understand what difference it makes if the Vast majority of Catholic women are on birth control or not. That isn't the question. The issue here is can a religious organization run a charitable institution such as a hospital or school and provide their employees with health insurance that meets their religious criteria? Obama seems to think not.

The GOP candidates need to be asking that question instead of letting the MSM cloud the issue with irrelevant discussions.

In order to cut through the clutter, I suggest that we substitute the words "contraceptives" and "abortion" for "uniforms" and change the word "insurance" to "schools". Now the question is "Can a religious institution run a school and force the students to wear uniforms?" The fact that most students, even Catholic students in public schools don't wear uniforms is irrelevant to the actual question.

The top campaign contribution to Becerra in 2007-2008 was $16,900 from employees of Broadcasting Media Partners.

Becerra is a prominent member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, of which he served as chairman during the 105th Congress

Some of the Catholic women I know have used natural child spacing. Others who are not that committed just let things happen naturally until they have two or three kids, then they get their husband snipped.

Exactly. I’d like to see them use the same argument for those who cheat on their taxes! Because X percentage of folks cheat, we need a mandate to cover the losses the government is suffering. They’re already stuffing salt-free and sugar-free diets down our throats because X percentage of Americans are over-weight! And we haven’t even gone into the implementation-stage of Obamacare!

My understanding is that there has been a rule for over 10 years that if an employer provides insurance that provides for presciptions, that these companies had to provide birth control or be in violation of the 1964 Civil Rights act (re: no descrimination based on sex).

I personally don’t think this has anything to do w/ religious rights but w/ medical rights. If a company does not want to provide prescripton benefits...badda bing...the issue goes away.

This same rule regarding birth control prescriptions has been in effect in many, many states. Again...if this is a fight about state rights vs federal rights...I come down on the side of state rights.

I am just not getting how this is an attack on religion.

I can only think of only 1 catholic woman that I know who does not practice birth control.

Now you know two, and I know many.

The mendacity of these putative Catholics appears to have no end. The Church needs to purge itself of these heretics, and it needs to do so now!

If we got rid of all of the sinners, there would be no need for a church.

The purpose of the church is to engage the sinners and show them the error of their way and lead them to grace.
We are all a work in progress and hearing the word of the Lord helps us to find our way.
It is frustrating to see how misguided some Christians have become, but they are not our enemy.

With all respect, we’re not talking about mere sinners here, we’re talking about those who scandalize—the Catholics who side with Mammon. “Better that a millstone be hung around his neck . . .”

My thought exactly. There are multiple agencies and other sources for contraceptive help. The mandate forces the Catholic church to violate fundamental principles. Such coercion is reprehensible. I’m not Catholic myself, but I get it.

I have no idea what they say in the confessional. This is what they say when discussing family size and contraception.

he said “ if the Church enforced ALL it’s rules”, he didn’t say each and every rule.

For you to extrapolate that to “’Thous Shalt not commit murder’ is optional” is disingenuous at least.

It is funny about word usage in English - different words convey different meaning - and what you said that he said - he didn’t say.

“I hope that the bishops in my church will stop telling all the parishioners who believe in the Catholic faith that this is a violation of their religious freedom,” said Becerra.

Becerra and many others are using the notion that Catholic women are using artificial birth control to try to negate the Bishops' argument, but he and they should get their facts straight. It's not the religious freedom of the WOMEN that the Bishops are arguing about. It is about the freedom of the Catholic Church to operate without interference of the Federal Govt., THE RIGHT OF WHICH IS ENUMERATED IN THE FIRST AMENDMENT.

Just wondering. Considering that this is the ground-breaking issue that gave us the so-called Constitutional right to privacy, it’s just funny. Evidently, no one cares to keep the matter private.
