(CBS News) J.C. Penney is trying to rebuild its customer base with help from a new spokeswoman, Ellen DeGeneres. But a group called One Million Moms is accusing the company of "jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon."
DeGeneres responded to the group on her TV show Wednesday, saying, "I'm happy about (being the spokesperson) J.C. Penney is happy about it. But there's this group called One Million Moms that is not happy about it. And normally I try not to pay attention to my haters, but this time I'd like to talk about it because my haters are my motivators. This organization doesn't think I should be the spokesperson because I am gay. So for those of you tuning in for the first time, I'm gay. I hope you were sitting down. ... So they wanted to get me fired, and I'm proud and happy to say that J.C. Penney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson."
In a statement last week, J.C. Penney said it stands behind its partnership the talk show host.
On "CBS This Morning," Thursday, J.C. Penney chief executive officer Ron Johnson, said the company "shares the same values" as DeGeneres and that the decision to have her as a spokesperson was a "no-brainer."
"We don't look at it like a controversy. One of the great things about America is people can speak their mind. And you know, the organization that believes one thing has spoken and it was great to see Ellen share her views yesterday. And we stand squarely behind Ellen as our spokesperson and that's a great thing. Because she shares the same values that we do in our company. Our company was founded 110 years ago on the golden rule, which is about treating people fair and square, just like you would like to be treated yourself. And we think Ellen represents the values of our company and the values that we share."
“”Youve been here since 2002 and youve never read Jim Robinsons statement on the home page of this site?””
Let me know when Jim says homosexuals shouldn’t be allowed to make a living....Selling makeup or any other product isn’t promoting a person’s sexual preference. When do you and the others here want to start hanging them?
Sarcasm sign "/s"
Thanks for the link to JCP. Sent them an email saying I spent close to $400 a few weeks ago at JCP before “Ellen” and since her values are their values and they are not mine, I will no longer buy there.
I personally don’t think this is a big controversy at all. If One Million Moms hadn’t brought this up, I wouldn’t even know who the JCP brand amabassador is. Does anyone know who was their brand ambassador before this? To me Ellen is a comedian who happens to be a homosexual.
Probably you would see Degenerate’s photo on ads and so on. If she wasn’t going to be used publicly, they wouldn’t hire her. She may “happen” to be homosexual, but it’s a big shtick with her and she makes sure everyone knows about it. And that is why JCPenny hired her. Not because of the comedian part.
So not wanting homosexual agenda stuff shoved into the public is tantamount to “hanging them”? A little hyperbole, wouldn’t you say?
Ahem - the author of the comment you are referring to is now zotted, just sayin....
He stepped over the line in supporting abortion and the homosexual agenda.
If you know what their “sexual preference” is then they’re pushing and promoting their deviancy.
That’s is exactly.
Portia looks like a man hater to me. Probably was molested as a child.
I've looked up a few “questionable” bow-wows from HS on Facebook, and, shock of shocks, they were dogs back then, and they're older, doggier, carpet eating dogs now. IOW, the broads that couldn't give it away are open dykes.
“Committed life partner” Makes me laugh every time I read it.
Too bad he was fatally flawed. He always seemed nice to me, and I was stunned to see him advocate for abortion. I doubt that you’ll get banned for missing someone who kept his dark side hidden so well.
I suppose the fact that Rush Limbaugh became friends with Elton John and hired him for his wedding has already been discussed.
That’s an interesting pattern, kinda like the 19th c Arts and Crafts movement meets Giger.
We are conservative activists, we protest the advancement of leftists lesbian activists and their causes, by family stores, into our homes.
That must be something that we both share I hope.
Well, I would stop shopping at that homo-hugging toilet of a store if I had any notion of shopping there in the first place.
I definitely have different values than JC Penney.
The commercials are pretty funny, even though she is s pervert.
