Former California Gov. Pete Wilson today endorsed Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination, part of a rising move within the party to rally around the frontrunner. Romney has made a big effort to line up high-profile endorsements, although several notables, such as former Florida Gov. and conservative darling Jeb Bush, have remained neutral. Wilson, although considered a conservative in California, is viewed as fairly moderate within the current GOP.
In his endorsement statement, Wilson called Romney an enthusiastic believer in American exceptionalism and called him a spectacular example of it.
(American exceptionalism is a term traced back to Frenchman Alexis De Toqueville and now de rigueur among modern conservatives, that the United States is unique among nations, in a good way, in contrast to their view that liberals like to denigrate American ideals.)
Wilson cited Romneys experience as governor of a Democratic state and his electability in his endorsement statement, implying perhaps that such Romney alternatives as Newt Gingrich might damage the partys down-ballot prospects:

Doesn’t really matter if it’s a winner at FR - matters if it’s a winner in CA. With 172 delegates (169 bound in a winner take all state) and Gingrich crowing about what he’s going to do in Texas (with 155, 152 proportional), playing for CA is a smart move to ensure that he has the deligates.
from one liberal state to a Gov of a liberal state, yep big news that,.
With the prop 8 question on marriage now being out there and the 9th set to decide on that, yep wonder what they will judge, ARF, then it is high time the GOP, RNC stop this messing about with their liberal, candidates.
The left state the social issues are not big and yet go after one of their social issues like planned parents hood homo , any goes marriage, etc and they go berserk.
Maybe if the establishment left the west coast, the north east and the beltway they would see most of the country wanting to get back to traditional ways and no not that what bozo the clown spouted on his infomercial before the super bowl.
Don’t know about that bridge, but C.C. Myers finished the repair of the 10 fwy bridge that collapsed during the Northridge quake 74 days ahead of schedule and received a $14.5 million bonus.
Extreme liberals always stick together!
The RINOS are coming out of the woodwork for Mittens......
That statement alone would cause me to vote against Romney, even if Romney could walk on water!
Pro-abortion Pete Wilson. He knows Romney’s dirty black heart.
Donald Trump’s apprentice wins another endorsement from the RINO party.
Meanwhile, people who want a nominee who is willing and able to articulate conservatism and end the Washington gravy train continue to support Newt.
The RINOs have decided that 0bama is unbeatable, so they’re backing the guy who is spreading around all the money.
This is breaking news?
E.L. Yeager Construction Co. of Riverside, was the contractor for the Gavin Canyon bridges. I just found that they earned a $4.5-million bonus on top of $14.8 million for completing the project 30 days ahead of schedule.
What made everyone happy was how fast the job was done - versus what CALTRANS predicted it would take them.
I originally posted it in the Politics and California Topics only .. not bReaking.
how it go there is beyond me.
First I've heard the Obama enabler called a "conservative darling." Now, that Pete Wilson, who would have thought he would have gone and done that? People in CA must be thrilled!
Pete Wilson who?
Just another RINO dumbass.
On that note, Thomas Sowell has some great commentary on Mitt’s conservative bona fides here:

Wilson the Creep endorses Romney the Schmuck, that should draw 5 or 6 votes his way
I meant that I don’t think Pete Wilson’s endorsement is very valuable to anybody.
In terms of California, which is on the left coast and also has a lot of Mormons, I suspect that Romney will win anyway.
One of the things we are underestimating is the big and powerful presence of Mormons in the Western states. It’s a creepy cult but its members are very well controlled, disciplined and deceitful. If you wanted to put it in different terms, it would be like having Scientology (based in St Petersburg, FL and extremely powerful in Florida) become the major influence in the South.
I don’t think the RNC particularly cares about “gay marriage.” If they did, they wouldn’t be supporting Romney.
It’s just us schlubs in the electorate who care.
As far as the value, I’m not sure. I haven’t lived in CA since the Pete Wilson days so I have no clue on the local politics.
As far as the Mormons, I used to work with many a Mormon out west and they all were very decent people. People were afraid Kennedy was going to rule from Rome. I’m sure most Catholics voted for Kennedy - and there’s nothing like making a group feel isolated to make them vote/act in lockstep. I think it’s overdone. Like the Catholics before them, the Mormons don’t have to worry about ruling. Their influence will be boosted most by simply having a successful presidency (read scandal free for the church) and enjoying the legitimizing benefits of that association. If they’re able to get 50% more Mormons over time because of that (time 10% of income) that’s a whole lot of power.
That’s my 2c. As stated before, I’ll certainly feel the ass if I’m being hauled off to the Mormon re-education camp but it’s not keeping me up nights now.
