As Florida voters went to the polls on Tuesday, those journalists trolling for evidence of a shift in the Jewish vote seized on a slight decline in Jewish turnout in the Republican primary as proof the GOP hadnt made much progress. Those who did so were mistaken, because the sample size was so small and the willingness of Jews to change registration to vote in a primary isnt indicative of how theyll actually vote in November. But a new Pew Research Poll released this afternoon about party affiliation provides clear proof that a long-awaited shift among Jews away from the Democrats may have begun.

Not this time. I know several liberals Jews who have always voted democratic. They now cannot stand BHO. They will not vote for him. This is a dramatic change. We may see 50-50 in November.
Ditto to that. My wife (recovering liberal) and I have a friend who works in THEATER and even she gets it. She’s still so committed a leftist that she will have difficulty voting FOR any R. But she will not vote for Obama, even though she was an enthusiastic supporter in ‘08. If our team puts up a real conservative our friend will just stay home. Fine with me.
The problem lies in the definition of terms.
The terms “Jews” or “Catholics” is used much too broadly in political discussions.

If there is a shift, it will be largely economic issues amongst younger voters. My opinion only.
Think so? Jews are Jews. Catholics are Catholics. I'll throw in Mormons. I could throw in blacks. We don't deal with them as individuals. Other Americans are independent thinking Americans. Big problem for the GOP.
Just because some Jews won’t vote for Obama doesn’t mean those Jews are going to vote for Republicans down the ticket.
The change will come from demographics. Secular Jews don’t have children, religious Jews do. Religious Jews will vote conservative.
Right now, any change won’t matter. Jews are gathered in 30 or so overwhelmingly liberal congressional districts in a few overwhelmingly liberal states. The big exception? Florida.
Once the Jewish voters realize that our nominee is a total ANTI-SEMITE, they will go back to Obama.
And who am I referring to? Doesn’t matter, our candidate will be an anti-semitic, racist, sexist, homophobic biggot...once the Obama campaign (and the media) gets through with him.
That’s why it’s CRITICAL to nominate someone who is ready to take the fight to Obama, rather than someone who is polite and ‘electable’, because NO REPUBLICAN will be allowed to go into November without being totally tarred over. The candidate MUST be cable to get the focus back to Obama.
You are SO right! How all these supposedly “wise” talking heads can think Mittens could cut it defies reason. And Santorum’s wasting time and votes as well. He’s not tough enough or verbally agile enough to face BHO directly. He’s too big government for conservatives and too socially conservative for independents. Also, he gets sulky.
When confronted directly by the Wan onstage in front of a diverse audience, Romney and Santorum will both get rattled - one because he lacks core convictions - resembling BHO, and the other because he lacks finesse and maturity.
The only one who won’t hesitate to take the fight to BHO (and a fight it would be), the only one who’s a proven mover and shaker, is Newt.
For being hit from all sides, he’s done a damned sight better than either of those other two would’ve, but he needs more support and all the votes currently being siphoned off by Santorum.
