Five weeks ago, this might have been a game changer. Is this a case of too little, too late?
Atlanta businessman and former presidential candidate Herman Cain endorsed Newt Gingrich Saturday night at a West Palm Beach Country Republican gathering after two months of wavering on whether he would offer his support to a fellow candidate.
The endorsement comes just three days before the crucial Florida primary, by far the largest state to vote so far in the GOP sweepstakes, and could help Gingrich energize tea party support. Gingrich campaign has flagged since his upstart, double-digit victory over front-runner Mitt Romney in the South Carolina primary a week ago.
I had it in my heart and mind a long time ago to endorse Gingrich, Cain said in a surprise appearance at the dinner. Speaker Gingrich is a patriot, Speaker Gingrich is not afraid of bold ideas, and I also know that Speaker Gingrich is

I always thought it was that baseball player... can't think of his name now.
But you are right. I really would like to see Romney lose BIG in Florida though.
Out of Florida’s 99 they get 50 total. That’s it.
I like your spirit. But the dynamics coming out of Florida have to be recognized. The relentless media narrative in a couple of days will be “Romney the inevitable”. The so called conservative media will be tooting their Romney horns and will continue to try and marginalize Newt further. There will be few debates between now and super Tuesday leaving few opportunities to produce something major to turn this around. The game will now become a simultaneous multi-state game, where money and organization will become a huge factor. Momentum will be immense - advantage Romney. It’s still possible to beat Romney, but the odds will shortly become terribly worse.
Actually many of the old people lived through the age of Gingrich Speaker. They don't need more ads and many of them are very internet savvy. Gingrich is his own worst enemy IMO.
Such as: luxury cruises while other candidates were out working their rear ends off and planning their campaigns. Also buying Tiffany jewels for the present wife instead of a treadmill and personal cook to help him take about 12-14 inches off that lardy girth. It seems he thinks people are just going to anoint him and he doesn't have to work for it, study, practice etc, ala Obama. So please don't blame the old people, other than himself.
“GOP has merged with democrats.”
Nowhere will that statement be trumped. Facts aren’t triumped. Santorum has aided and abetted along with Florida voters our official turn to totalitarianism on Tuesday should this play out and by such a margin. The ignorance is willful.
You guys made me damn near have a keyboard moment on that one! :^)
I try not to worry. Remember THEY told us whoever wins SC wins the GOP nomination. :)
Funny how we haven’t heard them say that since that Saturday night.
I’m hopeful . . . but nervous. I just don’t want it to turn into another stay home loss like Jimmy Carter & Ford or Perot to GHW Bush. But I do NOT like Romney at all.
I believe that too. Alot of early voting came around the Newt bump from SC. It will help him.
Oh, you mean like the presumptive conclusion about New Yorkers and New Jerseyans?
The very fact that he's attacking Newt shows me that he really still believes he has a chance to win the nomination. OR he's a fake conservative who's really on Romney's side.
I cannot see how it is possible to be a conservative and support someone like Romney who ran to the left of Ted Kennedy.
Are you serious? You put your hopes in a known liar and one that embraces his romneycare? He's NOT repealing it, get that planted in your mind.
Liberalism cannot survive on its own it is the mold that hosts itself on life.
Maybe Newt should step aside and support Santorum, the most conservative candidate still in the race. Santorum is good on the issues, including immigration and has none of Newt’s baggage.
[He has already endorsed Romney.]
That’s a lie. Rubio said he is not endorsing.

Are you serious? Newt is known as the worker - that’s why they don’t want him! They want status quo!
Tell us what Mitt’s been doing for years behind the scenes scheming his campaign and buying votes/endorsements. Until you give us that - don’t tell us what the mitt driven media is telling us about Newt.
If the early voting was done during the “Newt Surge”, it could get interesting.
Sorry, I do not buy any of what you said about Newt’s past and how THAT is playing a part in Romney being ahead. Before 1996 and the opposition being somebody other than Romney, I’d put some value into what you’re saying. Today we have a President who constantly ignores the US Constitution, was homeless and doing cocaine (by his own admission - in his own book) and he was doing all this during the time when all you have described about Newt had been taking place. So, I don’t buy it.
To my knowledge Rubio has NOT endorsed Romney; what people are referring to was when he publicly rallied to Romney’s defense the other day and basically called Gingrich a liar (although he wasn’t, he was simply quoting Romney’s own non-plan about immigration).
Romney has been flat-out lying about Gingrich about this whole issue (he said Gingrich called Spanish a ghetto language, when all Gingrich said was that all children in the US have to learn English and master it and that speaking any other language would never let them succeed in the US). But Rubio has said nothing to defend Gingrich.
So while Rubio hasn’t endorsed Romney (and he may not endorse either of them), he did appear to favor him.
