Mitt Romney’s performance in Monday’s debate turned out to be a game-changer after all. Three days after a Rasmussen poll of likely Republican primary voters showed Newt Gingrich up by nine points, a new survey taken yesterday shows Romney has an eight-point lead heading into tonight’s CNN debate:
Mitt Romney has jumped back ahead in the fevered Florida Republican Primary race with his support back to where it was before Newt Gingrichs big win Saturday in South Carolina.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Florida Republican Primary Voters, taken Wednesday night, shows Romney with 39% support to Gingrichs 31%. Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum earns 12%, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul runs last with nine percent (9%). Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.
That’s a ten-point drop for Gingrich since Sunday’s survey, and a seven-point gain for Romney. The momentum of the debate performance, and perhaps the renewed aggression on the campaign trail for Romney, seems to be firmly established in new polling. That makes tonight a must-win evening for Gingricg, and that probably means a lot of bloody knuckles for both men.
Let’s take a look at the differences in the internals. Very conservative voters still choose Gingrich as the stronger candidate against Obama, but that’s down to 47/34 from 56/24 in the earlier survey. Women had given a three-point edge to Romney on this question, but that has now jumped to 22 points, 52/30, and men now give Romney a nine-point lead where Gingrich had a double-digit advantage. The overall rating on this question now favors Romney by 15 points, 49/34, where Gingrich led by 3 on Sunday. Gingrich’s favorability didn’t change much at 63/35, but Romney’s increased to 73/25.
This looks like a very volatile race, though. A big debate stumble by Romney could reverse this yet again. However, with the tax issue off the table and every other line of attack likely to be a rerun, there’s a question about whether Gingrich can find another way to knock Romney off his stride as he did in South Carolina, or go after the media like he did to win in two debates there.
So does Ron Paul, but I note that you omitted him. Figures.
We can’t just lay it all in Newt’s lap. It’s like the guy on the roof who prays to God to be rescued but ignored the floating door, empty container etc.
We need to rely on Newt to do his part, yes, but WE need to start doing what we do best too:

NEWtron Bomb in progress.
I think that one line they keep repeating over and over again about Newt having to leave disgraced is hurting him. Language just doesn’t sound good.

Hang in the bro....., the battle has just begun....don’t let the liberal media get in ur head and depress you....!
Newt will win....!!!...becaue the conservatives will not allow the establishment to shove down our throats another lieberal republican....!
We are in a war for the soul of the party.....! If Mitt wins, the conservatives will walk.....! They will not tolerate another liberal republican....! Obama and Mitt are the same....!
Newt’s bounce for winning the SC primary is gone. Romney’s smear money is now leading Florida. He’s saturating the airwaves so thoroughly, that some 5-minute breaks have two anti-Newt attack ads in them. This is what he did to Newt in Iowa.
Yep he’s made that mistake twice now. Once in Iowa and then again in Florida. Him losing the polls is a good thing because that’s when he does his best.
“Romneys smear money is now leading Florida. Hes saturating the airwaves so thoroughly, that some 5-minute breaks have two anti-Newt attack ads in them. This is what he did to Newt in Iowa.”
Romney and the E’s knew that a Gingrich win in Florida would end it for Romney....they have to go total Goebbels in Florida and that is what the are doing.
Frankly, it’s going to take a miracle for another Newt comeback. All I’m going to say is that is is hard to hit grand slams every Primary and Debate when the umps are calling you out when you’re in there by 2 strides.
Good luck Newt. As far as you Estab. phags go...I’ll keep my feelings to myself and skip the fbi raid.

Assuming Romney takes the nomination, the silver lining is that it will probably mark the end of the GOP as opponent to the DEM party. Not sure what I'll do, but would entertain putting DEMs in all the federal offices in order to hasten the demise of the federal government.
The only thing these polls do is try and sway public opinion. I have said for months that Rasmussen is on the Faux News payroll. He likes to prompt up Newt for a few days, then all the sudden show Romney as being unbeatable. Look for Scott Rasmussen to be on Faux News every ten minutes today spouting this poll as the gospel. Look for it to be the headline on Drudge.
Anyone that watched the last debate saw a desparate plastic man name Romney act like a certified idiot in trying to attack the character of Newt Gingrich. This debate didn’t change anyone’s mind about Romney. Every analyst on TV said the debate was a dud and would not change any poll numbers. They were right. I honestly think Rasmussen and the rest of the instant polls that come out each day are garbage.
Newt Gingrich owes the debates and will make mincemeat out of Willard the liberal tonight. The childish name calling and character assasination will only go so far. It will not work tonight. After tonight’s debate, you will see Newt’s numbers go up again. This stuff is getting tiresome.
The only poll that matters now is the peoples poll this coming Tuesday. Then we’ll see if Willard the liberal’s money has bought the Florida primary. If he wins, it’s money and nothing else. Certainly debates are not Willard’s strong point. Hopefully the people of Florida have a mind of their own and will follow SC’s example.
The days of smokey back rooms at conventions are over. Not that many people smoke anymore :)
dont’; count on it.
Called the GOP in Jacksonville and they told me that they had 3000 tickets but only 800 went to the public like me. Seems the establishment stooges will be there on mass to cheer their guy Romney and boo Newt.
How I wish I could have got in tonight
I’m sure Gingrich will be helped by his pro-illegal pandering on Spanish radio.
I am done with the establishment and I will not shut up and just vote for their boy again.
After the way they have attacked Newt instead of keeping out of it then screw them.
I’ll never vote for him nor will any of my family
The tea party is serious....I just don’t see them supporting another liberal like John McCain, Bush 1 and 2, Bob Dole, Mitt and others....!
The Necons have destroyed the party and you can’t tell the Republicans from the Democrats....George W Bush put our country 4 trillion dollars more in debt...and we are told oh look at how conservative he is....BS..GW was a liberal noecon just like Mitt.
We can’t keep supporting these necons who claim to be conservative. If the necons destroy Newt, Mitt will be on his own, the conservatives will walk, they are tired of being abused and “piss#d on....!
And by spending $100K of state money to buy all the computers and hard drives of the Governor’s Office when he left office, making all the notes, emails, etc of Romneycare unavailable for scrutiny. Sorta like Obama when he left the Illinois Senate. He scrubbed all his records too.
no problem, they can self deport themselves......!
“many people watching would be too lazy to go to newt.org in the morning”
And as another Freeper noted, alot of them are older and may not even have computers.
I feel sick too this morning after logging onto FR and linking to the polls and anti Gingrich articles.
Even my local talk show hosts are foaming at the mouth over their race to one up each other over how much they despise Newt and why they are sure he shouldn’t win.
Can’t wait for Rush, though I wish he and Levin would stop being so cautious and get behind Newt. It’s obvious that neither of them is a Romney fan.
I think it’s unrealistic to expect that Newt will be able to lob a great slam out of the park tonight.
Mittens will be loaded for bear...and if Newt is able to capitalize on one of his verbal gaffes or find an opening to inject a game changing zinger, it will be due to luck more than anything else.
