Has Ann Coulter Lost Her Mind?

Ann Coulter has been on an anti-Newt rage the past few weeks, and last night on the Kudlow Report, she let slip what she really thinks about the GOP voters who have responded wildly to Newt on everything from the charge of racism by Juan Williams for being for Jobs rather than food stamps, to Newt's brilliant rebuttal to Scott Pelley on national security law. She thinks they are morons--or even worse in the world of Coulter, she thinks they're Democrats!
Ann was asked by Kudlow about Newt's invincibility as a debater, and she essentially ridiculed the audiences that have cheered Newt, saying she thought it best to not hear from the so called "peanut gallery."
Is Ann becoming an elitist herself?
And are we seeing the right-wing media elite starting to act and think like the left wing media elite did? That THEY know more than the rest of America as far as what it means to be conservative, and who will best be in a position to beat President Obama.
I mean, why bother going through this whole election thing?!
Rick Tyler, with Newt's PAC, really socked it to Ann for having so little respect for the voters--and the process.

Annie is just a orphaned rino ....... If she backs this poser Romney then she has cashed in any validity with me.
Used to like her efforts. Now.... Not at all.
Sad she becomes just another presstitute at this stage of the conservatives battle to defeat rinos.

Ann has always had my respect. Some people’s trains jump the tracks from time to time. I believe this is one of them. Maybe she’ll return back on a track of lucidity.

I think Ann is all is all in with GOProud and they want Mitt. Same with Drudge.
The Gay Agenda is very powerful. If they win, we will lose our Religious Liberties. Talk about Hell on earth! It's too frightening to contemplate. But contemplate we must. Let's Roll, i'ts going to get bloody people!

Nah, she's become part of the Beltway elite. She may rail at liberals, but she dates them and pals around with them. It's the usual "inside the Beltway" phenomenon.
You spend so much time surrounded by liberals and associating with the liberal media, that your gut conservatism loses its edge. You want to be included in the party invitations that go out year round, so you begin to make compromises and worse, you begin to believe what you hear as conventional wisdom among the establishment elites is real.
You begin to believe the liberals when they tell you "Newt can't win against Obama." "Obama is going to beat any Republican but Mitt." When your environment is distorted, then everything you hear through that filter is distorted. It may not even be a conscious phenomenon, their thinking is warped by their environment.
Things that liberals say out of wishful thinking and their leftwing propaganda are motivated by fear. Deep down inside, they are frightened to death of a strong, articulate conservative like Newt.
Ann is saying things you would never have heard her say even 5 years ago.

I wish Tony Blankley was still around. He was Newt’s most brilliant and energetic defender. Tony Snow, Barbara Olsen, Tony Blankley... we’re losing our most logical and remarkable brains.

It is so over the top that I don’t think even she believes a word she says. This is all just performance theater for which she gets paid large sums of money. If not that, then she is plain nuts.

She had a niece go missing last spring .... still missing. I had one of my dearest friends go missing for a year before he was found - it was a horrible thing to go through & is on your mind all the time. This may or may not have something to do with her “quietness”, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I've been saying this for about half a year. Her close association with GOProud and her sudden penchant for "moderates" like Christie and now Newt. She's attacking Newt for being twice divorced on moral basis and SC voters for ignoring that, while she buddies up with the fairies.
Plus, there is that Adam's Apple . . .

What exactly brought Ann Coulter into the mainstream GOP that she seems to find herself? Who was she? What has she done that is noteworthy?

I have considered that possibility also. She is in a high risk demographic (middle aged women), and it's not that uncommon.
