Nah, she's become part of the Beltway elite. She may rail at liberals, but she dates them and pals around with them. It's the usual "inside the Beltway" phenomenon.

You spend so much time surrounded by liberals and associating with the liberal media, that your gut conservatism loses its edge. You want to be included in the party invitations that go out year round, so you begin to make compromises and worse, you begin to believe what you hear as conventional wisdom among the establishment elites is real.

You begin to believe the liberals when they tell you "Newt can't win against Obama." "Obama is going to beat any Republican but Mitt." When your environment is distorted, then everything you hear through that filter is distorted. It may not even be a conscious phenomenon, their thinking is warped by their environment.

Things that liberals say out of wishful thinking and their leftwing propaganda are motivated by fear. Deep down inside, they are frightened to death of a strong, articulate conservative like Newt.

Ann is saying things you would never have heard her say even 5 years ago.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense. I know enough about how humans tick that I would completely buy your assessment.

After you’ve been around the “fight the liberals and then enjoy dinner parties with them” the whole thing stops being real to you. The whole thing is just a job and you take nothing seriously. It happens in all occupations. It is the way we are wired.
