I think Newt and Santorum are both good men, but if South Carolina goes as expected tonight, then it will be crystal clear that the only way to stop Romney is Gingrich. That suits me fine.

Gingrich has all the makings of a fine President. Romney is neither likable nor is he respected. Gingrich has high negatives thanks to a merciless beating by the press, but those can change. Where Gingrich beats Romney hands down and where he beats the world is R E S P E C T. Gingrich commands respect and even inspires a little fear. This isn’t a bad quality for a President. It has been sorely lacking in the oval office since the 1980s.

Particularly early in his career, Reagan had the same quality, telling America’s adversaries, both foreign and domestic, that we didn’t much care whether we were loved. WE WOULD BE RESPECTED. Remember how fast Khomeini released the hostages after Reagan was sworn in. I think he knew that the Gipper meant business. So did the world. Which is probably the reason we had so few military engagements during the Reagan years. Ronald Reagan was worth a division or two. So is Newt Gingrich.

And as far as America’s domestic enemies (read:news media) no one skewers and cows them better than Gingrich. Like Palin, he refuses to let them frame the debate and when they attack, he punches them back so hard they see stars

..I couldn't have said it better

Newt is not a threat to the Republic--Romney is--Obama wants to destroy it...

Very true. Obama inspires terror...that he is going to attack and destroy everything this country is built on...combined with an urge to laugh because he is such a dim bulb that he couldn't possibly do it (although his "advisers," such as Bill Ayres, could).

But Gingrich seems to have a plan and a way to get to it and he's not going to back down.

Great post.....

AND I loved the last line.

“Like Palin, he refuses to let them frame the debate and when they attack, he punches them back so hard they see stars”

An excellent way to put it, and I agree. As you said, Gingrich commands RESPECT, and even a little fear, which isn't a bad attribute in a president. Given the enemies our country faces, both foreign and domestic, I'd say that it's an essential attribute for a president.

And I love this:

And as far as America’s domestic enemies (read:news media) no one skewers and cows them better than Gingrich. Like Palin, he refuses to let them frame the debate and when they attack, he punches them back so hard they see stars

Heck, Newt punches them so hard, even I wince!

Excellent point. You're right -- Gingrich does command respect even among those (MSM!) who loathe him.

Thinking about your comment put me in mind of Benjamin Netanyahu. One of the things I love about Netanyahu is that it comes across loud and clear that Netanyahu doesn't give a particular damn one way or another if he's liked or not -- he knows that the "mother's milk" of what he does is having the respect of those he has to deal with: if they happen to like him, great, but if they don't, that's their problem. I hadn't realized it until your post -- that's the same quality I've seen coming out in Newt lately.

Godspeed Newt Gingrich.
