That is true to the extent of early in the process. But we aren’t that early anymore. Yes numbers change. But in this particular election, Romney polls pretty consistantly at 25ish percent. Newt and rick have split the vote between conservatives. Paul is a separate deal altogether combining CINOS and liberaltarians.

So the reality is that if both retain their full current support, Romney gets the nod. So that brings us back to my previous post. The numbers all along show NG outpolling RS across America with those couple mentioned exceptions.

Unless one group or the other abandons ship, we’re going to crash and burn. So again, is it logical to go with the man getting a higher poll average/support, ot the man with the lower?

At some point we have to decide. That point is upon us now.

I was a hardcore Palin guy who had to admit when it was over. The Santorum people must do the same. It’s not fun, but it is reality.

Since you are stuck on who Santorum endorsed in 2008 when Romney was much better then what we ended up with may I bring up Dede Scozzafava?

That was in 2009.

Was that "being on your toes" or "shooting your foot off"? Because she was NOT much better then what we ended up with.

95% of all Black folks will vote for 0bama, even if they are not better off now than they were four years ago.

I'm afraid that's just not going to happen.

I come from a large family of black Democrats, and can tell you for a fact that most of the adults (and even some of the adolescents) in my family are hugely disappointed in Mr. Hope & Change.

Where they once inundated me with gushing emails about him, and refused to listen to me as I patiently explained what he really is, they now don't even breathe his name, nor do they shut me down when I express my opinions about the mess our country's in.

They may not be ready to join us, but the wind has definitely gone out of their sails. Many won't be able to find the energy to support Obama, or to give him their vote on election day.

Windy, that’s simply unpossible. There’s no such thing as a black conservative. I read it in the NYT and saw it on MSNBC.

To put it simply, you are a figment of the FR collective imagination ;)

SHE is not one of the GOP candidates splitting the ticket to allow Romney to win. Santorum is.

Like you said, they wouldn't recognize the Republic they had established.

And Thomas Jefferson would say "You people are doing just about everything I warned you not to do."

Perry and his supporters were savaged by so-called “conservatives” and mods on this board for months with no abatement.

Oh, stop. You Perry supporters gave just as good as you got, and you know it.

Bravo Jim.

At first I was not a fan of Ronald Reagan, and now I believe he was/is one of our greatest presidents.

RR was divorced and a Hollywooder. I moved to California towards the end of his governorship and the mediots worked 24-7 to make him look dumber than Bonzo. Unfortunately, their lies about Reagan were unanswered as the internet, Rush and Free Republic were here at that time.

In the meantime Carter was destroying our military, the CIA and our economy.

During Carters destruction of America, a good friend, who was a CIA man was outed while in country with his family by Carter’s mediot friends. He and his family barely got out the country they were in.

Carter enabled the Islomfascists to take over Iran and our embassy.

Carter never met a communist,Islamofascist or hater of America, whom, he didn’t love and respect.

Carter then brought on massive unemployment and inflation.

So I backed RR to get rid of Carter as the lesser danger than Carter.

When the Islamofacists in Iran released our embassy people just before RR was sworn in, I knew then that Mr Reagan was not the Bonzo, the mediots in California had tried to picture him as.

In his first year in office, I cancelled our subscriptions to Time/Slime, NewsWeak and the Gay SF Chronicle and Sac Bee because of their lies and attacks on President Reagan.

I developed Zero Tolerance to local liberals, when they tried to lie and villify President Reagan.

When President Reagan ran a second time, I worked for him and donated money on a regular basis. During his second term, we had the best prosperity I have experienced in 70+ years, and he destroyed the USSR without a hot war.

Our military was rebuilt and was excellent, and most of us had a lot of pride in America thanks to the man, I really didn’t support at first.

RR probably saved America, and it needs to be saved again.

Is Newt another Reagan?

Only time will tell. I know that he is not a secret fan of Obozo, while pretending to be a Republican.

Newt is obviously not the choice of the so called Republican Beltway Pundits, who now include Princess Rove.

That alone is a good reason to support him

The reality that this country can not stand another 4 years of Obozo is the reality to support Newt.

Perry didn’t get half of the vitriol that my favorite candidates got. Sarah Palin. Then Cain and Bachmann. Well, they’re not going to do it to Newt. Not on FR anyway.

I’m a Virginian. I have two choices: Ron Paul or mitt.

Does Virginia allow write-ins?

And are you telling me you *want* Iran to have nukes (which means a limited nuclear war in the Middle East at least, if not dispersion of nukes to terrorists worldwide)?

Cheers!

Cry me a river. There were a LOT of Perrywinkles whom I only saw sporadically at best before Perry got in the race, and who basically started spamming FR with apparent sexual frustration masked as electoral enthusiasm.

It was OK at first, but to continue to snipe at all other candidates as "impure" or to claim "GO PERRY!" long after he himself had tried to drop out, was infantile.

Cheers!

To: true believer forever

I don’t care who you support as long as it’s not the abortionist/statist Mitt Romney. My concern is the wholesale trashing of our leading conservative candidates. We’ve ran them all out except Newt and Santorum. I’m not going to say anything bad about Santorum just don’t have faith he can defeat Romney and I don’t want Romney to be the last man standing like loser McLame was last time and Newt is a tiger!!.

So the trashing of our leading conservatives on FR stops today!!

Go, Newt!!

I'm supporting Newt because he's the only viable candidate at this point, IMHO, and that's it. It's unfortunate, again, that we're forced into this position, but the community needs to rally behind someone at this late stage.

Perhaps you don't get what's happening here. If all we were looking to do is rally around a viable candidate, we'd all be Mittbots by now.

No, the vast majority of Freepers (and others) have inspected the prospective crop on hand, and have rightfully determined that of them all, Newt Gingrich scores highest in all of the most important categories.

I personally began to gravitate toward Newt after Cain was run off. At that point in the race, there wasn't anything close to a guarantee that he'd do as well as he is right now, but upon inspection, he came closest to fitting the bill for what I need and want in my next president.

We can bemoan the fact that we don't have a perfect champion in the race, but thank God we have a real fighter, who believes in the Founders' vision, and has the requisite experience and skills to dismantle much of the Socialist leviathan that's dragging us down.

That's how liberals got where they are today, by only listening to people who share their point of view. It got them to believing absolute nonsense, and IMO its leading many here into the same place, believing unlikely things like Newt or Santorum could actually beat Obama, when Gingrich polls 11% behind Obama, in spite of how crummy the economy is, and it seems plainly evident that there's a broad class of women who otherwise might vote Republican who would never vote for a guy who's done what he has in his personal life (never mind how it is currently being exaggerated by his ex, the facts would be enough) and when Santorum polls 10 points behind Obama. Either of these guys nominated would plainly energize the left (which is currently completely enervated) and likely do even worse than their current polling-- there's a reason Santorum lost his last campaign by 17%.

I'm no fan of Romney. I was a huge supporter of Sarah, but I think she decided not to run because she feared she would lose the general election, and didn't want to be responsible for giving Obama a second term, which is going to prove to have been a terrible decision if either Gingrich or Santorum gets the nomination, because she would have been a vastly stronger candidate than either of them. The one good thing about Gingrich coming on is maybe Sarah will get back in.

Freepers like Gingrich because he says things they really like in debates. But the general electorate will not like these things as much, and its hard to convince people of new things in debates, that's not usually how you win elections. Think about how frustrated you are going to be next fall with Gingrich saying things you think are great, and the polls saying Obama won the debate.

Its truly desperate that freepers are hoping to nominate some guy who lost his last election by 17%, or some guy who's last official act was resigning because of corruption.

I'd say to you: look at Ron Paul. I did. The guy is steadfast, principled, morally upright, a veteran and a doctor, and actually a hell of a lot more electable than Gingrich or Santorum. He has the overwhelming support of the troops. He actually respects the constitution. You don't like his foreign policy, but consider the possibility you're wrong. I didn't like it either until relatively recently.

Iraq and Iran are not a clear and present danger to the US. What is a clear and present danger to the US is the budget deficit. That's what usually brings empires down and we will be the next to go. Even if Iran got a nuke, and declared war on us(which they would have no reason to if we came home) they still would be a much smaller strategic threat to the US than our own budget deficit. On the other hand, its a total pipe dream to think we will get the budget deficit in hand while policing the world. Every single sustained war the US has fought since and including the revolutionary war, has caused inflation and economic problems as the government printed money. This is not going to change if we continue extending the 22year and counting war in the middle east. And it won't change if you were to elect Gingrich or Santorum. And you will never get major cuts in domestic programs without also making major cuts in defense, at least unless the Republicans win a supermajority in the Senate and house, and that's not going to happen, especially not with Gingrich or Santorum heading the ticket. Paul has a proposal to make major cuts that won't even hurt defense, in fact it will strengthen it, by cutting the overseas expenditures. That will be a huge plus for US strategic security.
