(Video)Rick Santorum is Tired of People Wanting a Small Government That Leaves People Alone
Stop the ACLU ^ | 20 Jan 2012 | John Stephenson

Posted on 01/20/2012 8:49:22 AM PST by Jay777

One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right. They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I’m aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

- Rick Santorum

In my perfect world the state would not recognize or grant permission for ANY religious ceremony.

For those who pay attention to such things, it was Newt's lobbying and behind the scenes initiative to promote and get Republicans to sign on to the new entitlement. He's the #1 reason it was enacted.

Personally, I don't object to prescription drug coverage in Medicare, just to adding in a budget-busting new entitlement without cutting anywhere else.

Same thing goes for social “conservatives”....they are not conservative at all...

How can you consider yourself a conservative while defending abortion on demand, gay marriage, and legalized prostitution?

Talk about destroying the fabric of society!

So you are blaming Newt for Part D when Newt was not even in government at the time? I was afraid that was what you goofballs were up to. Sorry, no sale. We had enough gop Congressmen and an idiot president to blame for mucking it up and who didn't need Newt's help.

who didn't need Newt's help.

It wasn't going to pass without him, so apparently they did need his help.

Remember, Newt's been a Washington lobbyist living in Virginia ever since he was booted out of the Speakership.

mjp,

It's due to folks like you and Santorum that I urge everyone to do what I do - stock up on firearms and ammo while they still can. Your love of big government control sicken me and should instill fear in all of us for the future of our 2nd Amendment Rights.

Newt has admitted to backing Medicare Part D including directly lobbying Congress members. While much of the blame for that monstrosity lies with Dumbo Dubya, Newt’s hands aren’t clean. Santorum, who voted for the bill, has admitted his vote was a mistake.

So you think the MSM will just leave Santorum alone and not ask him about contraception? If they find abortion a big deal, imagine what they will do with someone who is against contraception.

The MSM will use his views effectively against him. He can’t win.

I don't think it's a great mystery that Catholics and many other Christians do not believe in contraception.

Why are you so obsessed with it?

Do you think observant Catholics should be banned from holding public office?

Newt Gingrich, by the way, is supposedly an observant Catholic. Therefore he, too, does not believe in contraception.

Mitt Romney, as an observant Mormon, believes in spirit children and all sorts of other interesting things.

I guess that leaves Ron Paul.

This is a general overview of Rick’s view of rightist libertarian beliefs. Specifically, there is nothing scary about Santorum. How do I know? He had 16 years as a congressman to prove it. He did vote for No Child Gets Ahead at the onset of the first Bush term, and says now that it was “boneheaded”. There is no long list of silly votes that anyone can accumulate on Santorum. He is a “small government” man, and I’m surprised that a guy (Napolitano) who wants to ensure the Punk’s victory by voting 3rd Party would not be viewed as suspect.
Go ahead, Gang, vote for Obama’s health care plan mentor, or the guy who had a six year affair, a hidden ethics report and a two decade desire to see individual health care mandates for all Americans. Or, you can vote for the man who understood Osama! What a country! Bob

Y’know, I’d love to see the exact leviathan bills from which some of these turkeys were extracted. Sometimes, y’know, bills that contain worthy provisions have wretched provisions in the fine print. This is not to excuse all of the bad votes, but I’ll bet that VERY few of these measures stood alone. You can make anyone look like a hero or a zero thanks to omnibus, monstrous bills that come before Congress. Bob

Santorum agrees with me on many principles and I have cause to be leery of Gingrich...but our backs are to the abyss, and Gingrich’s gravitas/chutzpah is showing he’s getting yardage. He seems to be the only dog in the fight with fight in the dog. I’m an ex-mormon violently opposed to Romney. I gotta back Newt. With fingers crossed.

That's very true.

I've been flamed repeatedly for posting that list of Santorum's Senate votes, and have invited the flamers to post his respectable conservative votes, but none of them have taken me up on it.

Seems to me they would, if their guy is the exemplary conservative they claim he is.

You need to do more research, Al.

Santorum has a bunch of liberal voters, utterances and positions. I've listed them numerous times.

Shall we go through them?

His argument here rejects the libertarian philosophy but does not specifiy his position in the other direction.

I don't disagree with his philosphy, but I think if he wants to lead a govenment that codifies that philosophy into law, he need to be running for Governor, not President.

never defended any of what you claim...you should re-read what I said instead of having an emotional response to historical fact.. Conservatives do not believe in using the force of Government to enforce a morality. The lack of morals in society is not the fault of the lack of government control, it is precisely because of government control. Social Conservatives believe in using Government control to enforce moral character....doesn't work and THAT is the antithesis of being a “constitutional conservative”.
