An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Wednesday night has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leading the Republican primary race in South Carolina.
The poll of likely Republican primary voters has Gingrich with 32 percent, ahead of Mitt Romney who trailed close behind at 29 percent.
The results are a significant reversal for Romney, who had led polls before Tuesday's Fox News debate. A poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage last Sunday showed Romney with a double-digit lead over Gingrich.
The InsiderAdvantage poll is the first major South Carolina survey after the debate. Gingrich has been crediting with winning the debate.
The poll found that support for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is faltering, with both pulling 15 and 11 percent, respectively.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. Three percent of those polled selected "other candidate" and 7 percent said they had no opinion.
The survey polled 718 registered Republican voters.

It doesnt really matter because Newt recently signed a fidelity pledge to reassure the public. Supposedly he had an expensive divorce attorney construct abstract language that is much stronger yet more fungible than his original wedding vows in any of his three weddings.
So Callista doesnt have to worry about that whole icky menopausal-thing throwing a wrench in the works like it did with Newts two other has-been wives. Hes made an extra-special (NOT extramarital) fidelity promise that is much more... complex... than his wedding vows to her were.
Lucianne Goldberg, (Trixie) has her own website, her son Jonah has his own column, ditto for Ann Coulter, you already know about Sean Hannity, Rush, and others. Mark Levin is active here: he’s a hero and great patriot: holdonnow.
I am new here, but signed up to say that Newt is our only hope to stop Romney, the liberal cultist that will destroy the GOP. We have to stop him or we are doomed as a party. He is not a conservative, nor a Christian and will tear the pary apart and hand it over to Obama. He is not my first choice, but he is what’s left. I wanted Sarah Palin, but she chose not to run, but she did support Newt.
At least Newt married his affairs like a gentleman and an officer. (Press auto smile.) :)
Well- welcome aboard, Liam.
I personally like Rick Perry, he is a fine man and his time will come. This is not the last we will see of him, he did well and Texas can be proud of him.
Moderate women didn’t like Sarah Palin, once married mom of five beautiful children.
So much for “moderate women.”
That sure is taking a long time. It was supposed to come out today.
That’ll switch some of the bragging rights, ‘bout it though.
With Newtron beating him like a drum, Romney is going to shut down these debates, if there is a cold chance in hades,
as one story already suggests. LOL!
X2
Sarah Palin was my first choice, too.
Todd Palin has formally endorsed Newt Gingrich!
Welcome to FRee Republic!
Excellent point, Onyx. Who really believes all this talk about Newt Gingrich being a catastrophically flawed candidate? So what if his philandering past alienates moderate women voters in the general election? How much difference could they really make as a voting block?
Everyone knows this country is like 67% conservative. There is no way this is going to be a close race.
If Romney loses here, he’s done. 2x nomination loser.
There was considerable speculation over who would get the 2016 nomination, and it’s not going to be any of the old horses. Paul is going to be gone.
All the boomers are going to be gone. 2016 is our chance to wipe the slate totally clean. Should be really interesting.
Personally, I’d rather not give another 4 years under Obama, but if that’s what the republicans want, then that’s what they are going to get.
Gee, let me guess... you’re a Paul supporter. LMAO
We must remember the women that would care about such a thing are probably of the Conservative variety. They’ll already be on board.
Well, Rita, no running from tomorrow’s debate- that determines SC— Hope Newt’s people know enough to pack the audience— don’t need a bunch of Paulies booing him.
They’ll all come at him hard-— strong solid defense first- and then patience, wait for the opening - and then bam, one of those classic Newt soundbites— that will do it...
-:)
That's the second time you've said that. Sounds like your new sour grapes meme.
Been saying it for awhile...
“OPEN primaries, in two purple states, permitted the Ron Paul vote and Romney to win.
But, it is what it is. The GOP is the stupid party.”
No that’s the GOP E trying to make sure that we never have another conservative president or nominee.
