From Public Policy Polling, this is really bad news for Rick Perry -- although at this point it cannot be unexpected:
Rick Perry's Presidential campaign is doing about as bad in Texas now as it is everywhere else in the country. When PPP last polled the state in September he was at 49%, leading Mitt Romney by 39 points. Now Perry's support has declined by 31 points, leaving him in 3rd place at 18%. Mitt Romney at 24% and Newt Gingrich at 23% lead the way with Rick Santorum at 15%, Ron Paul at 12%, and Buddy Roemer at 0% rounding out the field behind Perry.
What might be most shocking on this poll is that Romney edges Perry 46-45 if Republican voters had to pick just between the two of them. When we asked that identical question four monhs ago Perry led Romney 72-18. There's been a 55 point shift in Romney's direction.

“How did we get here?”
Do you really need to ask that? Perry was his own worst enemy. I dont live in Texas so I have only read about Perry being the longest serving Governor and was interested in his candidacy when it was announce. Then he starts his debats by calling conservatives “heartless” in a debate, forgets what agencies he would eliminate with his “oops” moment, made a speech in NH that sounded like some drunken sermon and just plain old failed to impress. First impressions are everything and he flopped in his debut never able to recover. That is what happened to Perry and he may have damaged his brand going forward if he had 2016 ambitions they may be gond for good.
yeah, I still think had Medina not turned out to be one eyebrow short of being ron paul she could have gained momentum in the primary..... gotta say, the one and only time I EVER put a political bumpersticker on my car was for Medina, irconically I put it on the morning she was to go on Glenn Becks show. That afternoon I quietly removed it from my back window. Lesson learned: wait until a candidate has exhausted all opportunity to reveal their crazy side! LOL
“...Disagreement is one thing-but the pack mentality, the yapping and screeching like packs of hyenas toward ONE OF OUR OWN is absolutely inexplicable to me...”
Say it again, Kate...
Spot on.
This is why you were called hysterical Ms. Outlaw. Ya see no one said or suggested it was all Perry's fault.
I can see #142 hit a nerve.
After many years in office, as Texas is crawling with illegal aliens, suddenly Perry demands the borders be secured...
What a surprise!!
How stupid do ya think everyone out here is?
A hysterical comment even for the Perry fan club president.
Perry and Bush, pandered to and aided, abetted and rewarded millions of illegals. The result of this compromised and undermined our entire system, including our very electoral process.
Above is a pic of Dallas Texas 2006, as 500,000 illegals and their supporters marched on Dallas, while making demands and shoving foreign flags in your face.
This all occurred under President Bush while Mr. Perry was governor of Texas. Not Carter, not Clinton...But Bush and Perry...
Not enough?
Who ya gunna blame?
Then Mr. Perry lends credibility and legitimacy to racist, 100 percent pro-illegal alien organizations by attending their conferences.
No enough?
Not long after that, Perry tells Americans they don't have a heart in regards to this epic, violent, country killing invasion of our laws, borders, sovereignty.
Ya need to tell Perry to head back to Texas, where he is comfortable around La Raza and illegals. He can go retire and have fun on his bloated tax paid government pension.
No one is afraid of Rick Perry.
Probably should just speak for yourself. There's lots of GOP Establishment who don't want to hear about cutting regulations and taxes much less going part-time. Perry has a true conservative message and has been hammered since day #1 of his campaign.
Maybe what you meant to say was, Perry's already been taken care of, threat neutralized.
If they (particularly the media) aren’t actively trying to push him out, they’re sure acting like he’s the “invisible man” in the race! Even ‘friendly’ media is guilty of it. For instance, there’s “FOX NEWS”: I like “FOX NEWS” a lot; but they’re seriously making me mad when they pretend Perry’s not there! They do this to some of the others as well, but particularly Perry!
Oh man...I could care less about what you believe. I believe in rules, laws borders and American sovereignty. If that don't fit into your religion, too bad.
“Romney is only ahead because the conservatives are splitting the vote.”
I would have assumed that to be true but according to this poll if it was just Romney and Perry, Romney edges Perry by a point. statistically insignificant but pretty bad for Perry to have lost so much ground in his home state.
I understand where you are coming from but it still doesnt explain Perry’s pathetic performance from the start. he jumped in late in the game completely unprepared and it showed. he may now be damaged goods definitely looked foolish from the outset. i dont know if he can come back from this in the future. As for Romney part of his current success was due to the fact that he ran in 2008 and never really stopped. he did crisscross the country in various races and helped Rs get elected all across the country. that pays dividends. he had the infrastructure, the money and the exposure to get where he is today. couple that with his opponents being flawed in one way or another and well here we are. not to say Romney isnt flawed (obviously he is) just saying that it was a confluence of events that made him the “front runner”. with no single more conservative alternative to coalesce around he will be the nominee unless this tax thing gets any bigger.
I will distribute it to on-line pro-illegal websites, telling them you can house, feed and provide for several dozen illegals, all on your dime.
Lets have it. You can use the PM if ya want.
Put up or shut up.
Back when Cain was in the race I think there was a poll showing him beating Perry in Texas.
If Perry had ever faced a primary opponent that wasn’t a piece of crap he would have lost already.
I hope he doesn’t run for a 50th term.
