Iran's Gulf Arab neighbors should not raise their production to replace Iranian oil if the European Union goes ahead with a ban on Iranian crude imports, Iran's OPEC governor said on Sunday.

The EU has agreed in principle to ban imports of Iranian oil, while the United States has pressured Asian buyers to reduce imports to starve Iran of revenue for its disputed nuclear program.

The Iranian Rial has lost 34% of it’s value between September 2011 and the end of the years. Their currency is losing 1% of it’s value every 3 to 4 days. Under these conditions you can’t save, it’s foolish to save. They spend Iranian money as fast as possible on comsumer staples/durable goods; or, exchange it for foreign currency (US dollars). The appearence to an inept Mullah is probably that of a bussling economy because goods are moving at warp speed.

Soon enough...those are going to look like the good old days! Particularly with building banking sanctions that will make currency exchange more difficult.

“This is not a good time for the Iran government to lack popularity,” -Alireza Nader, an expert on Iran at the RAND Corporation

(Did we need the RAND Corporation to tell us that???)

They have parlimentary elections in March and reformists have been banned.

If Arab Spring come to Iran this spring, the hard liners need all the saber rattling they can muster to consolidate their minority of support.

Don’t forget the war in Europe. That was also the intended result.

Yeah, some expert. Wouldn't you love to make what he does to state the obvious?

War in Europe started in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland not in 1940 when the USA placed sanctions on Japan.

For America, war started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The American public at the time would have never agreed to fight in Europe again if not for the Japanese attack and Hitler’s declaration of war in support of his allies.

It was the Left that wanted us in Europe, because Hitler invaded their beloved Soviet Union.
