If you are looking for a conservative alternative to Romney and had to choose today between Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry or Rick Santorum, which one would you choose?
Final results of the Free Republic 1/9/2012 non-Romney Conservative Straw Poll (see post 548)
Newt | 225 | 59.7% |
Perry | 77 | 20.4% |
Santorum | 75 | 19.9% |
Gingrich
“You do know, of course, that this is just a gimmick to set himself apart?
He - and you should - know this wouldn’t have a snow-balls chance in hell”
Doesn’t matter. Cain pushed for a major change in the tax code. 9-9-9 was horrible, but it got the rest of the field to take a stand on real, positive changes to the tax code. No one talked about it before. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been much talk about it since he left (except from Perry and, oddly enough, Huntsman).
Read Santorum’s website. It looks like he copied and pasted the GOP platform onto his website. We don’t need another “compassionate conservative.” We need someone who is going to do more than get rid of the “death tax” and change tax rates. We need a rewrite of the tax code.
Read Newt’s website. Same thing, only less. How anyone can think Romney changes for the audience and then supports Newt has to be schizophrenic. If Romney waffles, Newt is Waffle House.
Go to Perry’s website. Part-time Congress and flat tax. I don’t care if he had to promise it because he is behind in the polls, it’s out there for discussion and he’ll be held to that standard.
If we get 4 more years of Republican lite from Santorum (at least for fiscal issues) or whatever wacky positions Newt decides to go with at any particular moment, we won’t be able to dig out of the 0bama hole.
So I’ll vote for who I think is the best for this country, thank you very much, and you can take your “whatever compromise I need to make to get someone with an ‘R’” vote and throw it away on Romney.
I wish I had the time.
Gingrich by a landslide.
Just gotta ask...what are you smoking because I want some!
Newt for me!
I've been very disappointed that the republican house that we elected last year has not lived up to expectations. The reason for that is the establishment republicans ignoring us, as usual, and silencing the new members we put in office.
Since the republican establishment has come out in favor of Mitt and against Newt I don't think we will have to worry about Newt siding against the tea party and with the establishment anymore.
He might say he is one of us just to get our votes but he has his own reasons for seeing the establishment republicans lose their voices. I really don't care what the reason is. I just want them to sit down and shut up so that the people who care about this country can get to work.
Newt
we do agree our country must take action to address climate changeThat is not a half truth, it's what he said. If you want to call it a half truth then Newt flip flopped, so call it whatever you want. That's a huge issue for some of us intelligent Freepers.
Texas Rick rides in to save the day. Got a name?
Perry.
The only one I think ‘might’ curtail the EPA, support our RKBA, and allow American business a chance to recover without another 20,000 new regulations being implemented in his first year.
I do not want to hear about single “New” law being introduced, I want to hear what “Law’s” and agencies are going to be repealed!
Santorum
Newt
Newt
Perry
Santorum
Whoever is the least establishment-bound...probably Santorum.
NEWT!!!!!
NEWT!!!!!
NEWT!!!!!
