Yeh, I think Bush kept Cheney from responding -maybe sensitive to the accusation that Cheney was actually the one running the Government.

I just remember that GHWB had no problem sending Cheney, Powell, and Baker out front and center when needed, and they all could articulate better than either of the Bushs.

Then GHWB turned around and let the press get in front of him on the economy though, and did very little to defend his economic policies. The press got away with portraying a recovery as a recession and Bush being out of touch.

Within days after the election, the press announced: well, the figures are in and President Bush was right. The recession has officially ended. The press makes me sick. They are NOT upholding their part in keeping the country free.

Romney is such a jerk!
He engages Santorum then acts like Santorum is out of line for responding.
What a putz.

If he was running for congress or as Governor your complaint would be valid. I don’t think a President Santorum would have his justice department filing lawsuits to prevent a business (like Boeing) relocation from a union-dominated state to a right-to-work state like DUh-bama has.

Newt is certainly NO David...the attempted comparison and excusing of his adulterous ways is pretty sick.

Jesus died for all of our sins. Newt has repeatedly atoned for his - publically; and if Jesus can forgive him, then who am I (or you) to say otherwise?

You’re so right. I always point that out to libs but they’re too ignorant or stubborn to see it. I did get this one old coot with whom I’ve argued for years, though. He once again bashed Bush and praised Clinton’s balanced budgets to which I said it was thank

s to Newt being Speaker of a Conservative Congress. There were others there and they chortled and guffawed. It was gratifying (for a change).

The comparison was pretty disgusting...I expect that from DUh-bama's zombies, but not conservatives. What's next, Messianic photoshops???

Oops...too late!

If you want to take down Romney, Newt is your only hope. He needs 2 things. 1) He needs money which he’s finally getting so he can play dirty like Romney if he needs to. 2) He needs to get Romney one-on-one. Paul will probably make that impossible, because he won’t drop out until June. Perry will eventually drop out and side with Newt. Then it comes down to Newt or Santorum. I think we know now - when it comes to debating - Newt can overpower Romney and fluster him. I see Romney and Santorum going back and forth and no real winner. So this realy comes down to Santorum and Newt. Who will emerge as the conservative choice? I think Newt can beat Romney, but not sure Santorum can in the long run.

IMHO Perry is a stringer candidate than Santorum.

A part-time Congress would take a constitutional amendment.

Why would that be necessary?

The Constitution already says that each chamber can make up its own rules. They can each set their calendar in any way they choose, as long as they meet at least once every year. Also, both chambers must agree on when they can recess.

Regarding recess, if they were to move to a "part-time" status, that would just increase the length of the recess, which then gives the President an enormous window for recess appointments without confirmation.

They all ran and hid. I think if some of them had stood up against the leftist attacks, we might not have lost Congress.

In 2006, they were stung by the way the Democrats and MSM held onto the Mark Foley page emails for a year. Then they let Pelosi tie it around Hastert's neck. There wasn't much anyone could do after that.

Ah yes, the Mark Foley thing entered in also.

Front pages every day, headlines every hour. No excuses for what he did....those e-mails.....but dozens of Dems do far worse things (Barney Frank and that creep in MA) and they become heroes.

But they still needed to stand up for our troops and our mission in Iraq. Even if it didn't sway the election, it would have proven they had some courage to those of us who desperately wanted to think they did.

As it turned out, President Bush had to stand nearly alone in supporting the troops and our mission in Iraq and the necessity for victory there.

For me it was one of the Republican party's darkest hours.

Amen to that! Clinton inherited a solid economy from GHW Bush and left a recession to GW Bush and the media said the exact opposite.

And on top of that, the solid GWB economy with its 4 percent unemployment was the 'worst since Hoover' while today's deep unemployment and depression-like economy is just fine, and whatever problem there is with it is Bush's fault.

They make me sick too.

Not SURE Santorum can beat Romney???

I guarantee he can’t.

Newt is our only hope of that and, further, of whipping BHO in the general. He’ll dog him wherever he goes until he gets the debates he (and WE) want.

Either one could beat Romney given money and organization.

One thing many of us have been seeing (especially in the last few days) is the media (including Fox) stepping up their cheerleading for Mitt.

I've maintained for a while that the media might be an even bigger opponent than Obama. Right now, I'm convinced of it. In the past 12 hours, ABC, NBC and Fox have all been speaking of the inevitability of Mitt Romney, by poll numbers, his win in Iowa (by a disputed 8 votes) and his debate performances. Iowa proved the polls inaccurate, Iowa may well have been won by Santorum (against millions in advertising by Romney), and IMO, Romney's debate performances have been less than stellar.

These are exactly the same tactics employed by media back in 2008 with McCain, building him up as the nominee (very early on) and then tearing him down (shortly after receiving the nomination). Will it work again?

I pray that it won’t work this time. Millions of people have awakened from a decades-long sleep. This, perhaps, is BHO’s legacy - that his ideology is so extreme, his alliances so radical and his dislike for America and its citizens so intense that many millions of us are scared to death of losing our country, have studied up and also become singularly dedicated to defeating this threat in our White House, deciding what it will take and who is most capable of doing it. I think we’re much more savvy to the enemies’ strategy earlier on this time around. The main problem seems to be that we’re still divided between 3-4 guys but we don’t dare let Romney win this with 25%. Particularly since most of us think he CAN’T beat BHO.

Good list, to which I would add:

Newt= conservative version of Bill Clinton right down to the ego and bimbo eruptions.

That leaves Rick Santorum.
