Portland might wait 5 years on paving projects

PORTLAND - Portland's Bureau of Transportation says it can't afford to do some big repaving projects.
Southwest 4th Avenue was scheduled to be repaved. That project is on hold, along with others the bureau hoped to contract out over the next five years.
Potholes riddle SW Oak St. through downtown Portland. The street was targeted for a big repaving makeover but now fixing the cracks and patches will have to wait.
"Of all infrastructure, the transportation infrastructure is visible above ground, so its really noticeable," PBOT's Cheryl Kuck said.
Deferring the work is not what they want to do, but what they must do, given a $16 million budget gap, according to Kuck.

The money probably got wire transfered directly to their accounts in the Caymans.
Sad....
Plenty of money for every liberal wet dream, but none for essential gov’t responsibilities.
Liberalism IS a mental disorder.
Portland took the money, but has yet to deliver the goods.
Roads first, then garbage collection, fire and police but keep those entitlement checks going.
In my State of Maryland our Democrat O’Malley stole the Highway funds and put them in the General fund.
Usually we start winter with roads that have been repaired and prepared for winter, This summer they did nothing we are starting out with roads falling apart.
O’Malley did raise the tolls on all of the bridges though and he promiss to raise the gasoline tax.
If Portland would only tax stupidity, the city would be rolling in dough!
There is a budget. Period

After the "Occupy ..." protesters trashed the city, a bunch of money had to be spent on clean up and repairs.
I visited Portland last summer, let them ride their freaking bikes to work. I saw more homeless, shiftless, worthless, scumbag 20-somethings over three days in Portland than I have seen in my entire 46 year life. There’s some good people there, and nice terrain, but the sheer numbers of just useless wasted youth is amazing.
So true -- I enjoy the city as a starting point for my visits to the NW but they are everywhere -- they hang out on building stoops and at transit stops and beg for money. Reminds me of the zombies from the AMC show "The Walking Dead." At some point the taxpayers will have to get tied of supporting these derelicts.
