Two days after defying Republicans and appointing Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, President Obama visited the new agency to take a little time to gloat.
Making a victory lap of sorts at the independent agency, Obama cracked a joke, telling employees that he came by to help their new director move in.
More seriously, a seemingly content Obama called the man he tapped a great director who is tailor-made to lead this agency.
With Cordray at the helm, after months of delay, the agency will help Americans better digest mortgages, student loans and credit card fees before they become entangled in debt, Obama said before a packed room of more than 100 CFPB employees.
Now that Richard is your director, you can finally exercise your responsibilities under the law, Obama said. We can help give people the clear and transparent information they need to make the right financial decisions, he said.
Obama was welcomed by an extremely supportive crowd of bureau employees who loudly cheered his arrival and were especially boisterous when Cordray introduced himself as the official director of the agency. A lottery was held Thursday night to dole out seats to employees who wanted to attend the event.
The trip to the agency came just two days after Obama made the surprise decision to appoint Cordray to the agency while Congress was on recess.
Ha—Oops! I know. I was posting from my iphone for the first time and I didn’t think it was working. Sorry everyone.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,
The name is wrong.
We aren’t going to get any more financial protection from this bunch than if we wore a broken condom to a gay orgy.
Boehner’s in some corner crying and McConnell is spending his time fretting about uncooperative “right wing extremists” in the Republican party.
LLS
LLS
where’s the Taxpayer Protection Bureau?
As you intimate, if they’ve got a plan it’s under house arrest, locked in a safe, inside a dresser, inside a closet, just off the locked main bedroom, one hundred feet from the nearest exit.
Thanks
It was simple for me. They were hold-overs from GWB era. They helped get Republican votes for TARP and other liberal compromise bills with Pelosi. They were in leadership during 2008 Democrat congressional victories and their team's losses. It made no sense at all to keep them in those positions if Republicans really changed as they claimed in 2009.
So they stay in charge to argue against all the things they were for when GWB was POTUS?? It was stupidity and just gave Obama another political argument to use against Republicans. This is a failure for sure.
What are they going to do? Teach people to read and do simple math? Good Luck. Make these businesses put everthing out at 3rd grade level? What??
What are we going to do about it?
Zero will never be impeached...remember “Cities will burn”,
enough to scare the pansies in Congress.
Let em’ burn. The worst cities will save on eventual demolition anyway. Shoot all the bastards involved and move ahead.
"A lottery was held Thursday night to dole out seats to employees who wanted to attend the event."
100 is just the tip of the iceberg. And the average starting federal pay is now $70+ thousand. . .

HEY! Bolshevik Chairman Obama, gloat on this:
OBAMACARE IS A MONOPOLY, AND THEREFORE VIOLATES THE ANTI-TRUST LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
So was the whole recess appointment controversy even an issue? Was this guy subject to confirmation in the first place?
And why did Urkel wait so long to launch this monstrosity if the work it's purported to do will benefit the consumer so greatly?
Since the onset of this he was supposed to appoint Elizabeth Warren (another statist monster) to be the Director but there was a lot of pushback against her from a number of quarters for various reasons. He settled on Cordray later in the year and probably realized that the Senate would never confirm so he made his push. Of course we both know that nothing this extra-Constitutional agency will ever "help" any consumers, it is just another way to kill business/economy through massive over-regulation (much like the rest of D-F).
Why do we keep looking at the shiny thing while all this nefarious activity is going on in the background?!
Hah!
