The Obama administration will propose a .5 percent pay increase for all civilian federal workers, an Office of Management and Budget official has confirmed to POLITICO. The pay increase would be the first for federal employees since President Obama declared a two-year pay freeze in 2010 and would require congressional approval.
The news was first reported by the Washington Post's Ed O'Keefe, who quotes a senior administration official saying that a permanent pay freeze is not an acceptable policy.

Ping.
Why not?
Seems to be the case at my job - I'm supposed to just be happy I have the job.
That outta to work for federal employees as well...
My husband works for a municipality. Everybody (except police and fire unions) took across the board pay cuts a couple years ago (3% I think), and now they’ve been under a pay freeze since then. Why isn’t it acceptible? It’s what the rest of the country’s dealing with.
Gut defense on one hand and increase bureaucrat pay on the other.
Federal workers have been getting step increases right along. Unlike their civilian counterparts. I don’t see them leaving for greener pastures..so maybe we should actually cut their pay.
Here’s my modest proposal. Take that modest proposal for a modest pay hike for civilian federal employees and modestly shove it up your donkey. I say this with all modesty. The word “modest” has no place in this administration. These jackasses have the gall to announce that they want to cut 90,000 Soldiers on Thursday, and then announce they want a “modest” pay raise for the federal civilian employees on Friday? No, there is no modesty in this administration. They have no concept of shame. It’s all “Get while the gettin’s good!” and rob the federal treasury. Democrats.....all the modesty of a $2 whore.
NO YOU KENYAN A$$HOLE!
LLS
I assume 0.01% of it will end up in the Obama’s campaign war chest. That 0.5% raise will buy a LOT of votes.
A little sumpthin’ sumpthin’ from Uncle Suga.
I had a 1/3 pay cut 2 years back. I got a new job somewhere else this year.
FU BO.
as opposed to what? the number of Americans that have lost their jobs or have had their pay reduced?
cut the military.... give the professional office sitters a raise.... makes sense to me ( sarcasm on )
Lurching toward a permanent two-tier society.
Politico, spinning. Modest...as he slashes the military. Obama is intentionally agitating.
this is just especially for those gullible people who won’t get to cash in on his election-buying proposal for mortgage refinance.
a 50% to 75% pay cut would be more in order
has to keep providing for his biggest voter blocs, hasn’t he!
Our County government in negotiations with unions actually took away up to a 9% COLA (some unions had less) given over the past three years in former agreements. Employees also now pay a greater share of their health insurance and new employees get a lower level of retirement benefits.
(Department heads, electeds and non-unionhad never received the increases to begin with.)
The federal government is waaay out of touch here.
I have friends who work for the government, DoD related not all under the DoD though. There are legitimate functions of government and the workers need to be paid. I realize the economy sucks and I took an 8% pay cut back in April. It sucks. But, the problem with government is not the individual worker, but rather entire departments that operate outside the confines of the constitution. Shut down the department of education and keep going from there. All those workers should be fired and although it will suck for them, they need to get private sector jobs. We aren’t going to reverse the trend of socialism by stopping pay increases.
