What a difference a caucus makes. Rick Santorum who two months ago had one percent (1%) support among likely South Carolina Republican Primary voters now is running a close second there with 24% of the vote.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.
Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%). Another two percent (2%) of these likely primary voters like some other candidate, and 11% remain undecided

Thats the way I see it also. And while I would love to see a staunch social conservative in the White House Im not so sure a majority of this nation would go for that. Also his weak fiscal history is problematic. His willingness to encourage pork is worrisome and His votes for increased spending eliminates him as a strong fiscal conservative.
With those issues in mind I believe that Newt is a more attractive candidate for a larger portion of the population even with his personal history. Most people are going to realize that they would not be able to survive an intense search of their past and tend to put those issues in the background. All in all I believe that Newt would set a trend of bringing us back from the brink.
With all of that in mind I believe it would be wise to rally around Newt and coalesce the anti Romney vote.
Ignore my previous ping at #168. Posted on wrong article. :-)
(bounces have a shelf life)Speaking of bounces. Bounces have to be large enough and lasting enough...
Werent you all telling us that the only one who could beat Romney was Newt?
Apparently his lead was ephemeral. The game has changed.
I predicted that Santorum would be leading Newt in SC, and it looks like I was right.
Well, I apologize for that. Normally, I would agree with you, but with O-Care needing to be dismantled we really need someone who’s solid on abortion.
I don’t want a president who ‘does stuff’, but we need to dump O-care ASAP. Santorums already came out swinging saying that it makes everyone dependent on the feds, and he’s got that right.
As for abortion being a states right issue, I have to disagree here. Unborn children are fully persons, and state lines isn’t going to change this. You can’t have a child be a person in New Jersey and not a person in New York State.
There are certain constitutional obligations for the federal government, and protecting the right to life of the unborn I would argue falls under the 14th.
Peace + Blessings,
Sean
Preach it!
“There is no better time than today to remind the voting population of the differences between collectivism and conservatism.”
As if they care. How do you begin to explain the differences between the two when they don’t even understand either one? Please.
“I’ll take my chances with the uncharismatic conservative.”
You and many others who don’t get it will. You need more than “conservartive” to win a general against Obama.
“We listened to your BS four years ago, and we ended up with someone who couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag.”
Mc Cain had neither conservatism nor charisma. No surprise there. It was over before it was over.
“Been there, done that.”
Yes, and we’ll do it again, unfortunately, with an irritating candidate (to the masses) such as Newt or Santorum. Personally, they would be just fine for me, as would have the others. But, you’re absolutely right that I am not only pessimistic, but extremely certain that my values, social & economic, are not shared by most voters today.

Quit paying them attention and they will not be able to influence elections.
Seeing as it’s Newt trailing, I could ask the same of you.
So rather then vote for the man that you believe to be the strongest conservative, you’d rather settle for Newt in the hopes that he’s more appealing to independents?
I’ve got a newsflash for you. Newt is radioactive among Independents.
This nation needs more than just a someone...but one who has the greatest skills and the fighting spirit to undo "ALL" that Obama has done....not just some of it..And who has the strength and ability to stand hard against bambi in the debates ahead....and at the same time has a plan in place to restore that which our nation was founded on and respect of...and clean house of those who stand in the way.
That's a tall order but not impossible and NEWT'S the only candidate who has all of these andthe knowledge to know where the handles are in Washington to move congress to get this done, and where the resistance will come from when attempted. He's done it before and knows how it works and is working now.
That's what this nation needs That's why I support Newt
I am becoming resigned to the fact that Romney will win the nomination, and that a third party challenge will give Obama another term. Also, because conservatives hate Romney, GOP vote turnout will be weak causing the GOP to lose the House and only gain two seats in the Senate. Welcome to our socialist future, brought to you by the GOP Establishment and idiot FReepers who can’t see past their nose.
Once again mcbain shows his nasty colors...like Romney he says he’s one thing but is the rat he is...and his whole family is liberal as they come.
The public remains stupid when it comes to these two...my gosh will they never learn! They’ll eat this news spin up and pull the levers!
I have never forgiven McCain for giving bamabi the election free and clear with out a hint of resistance or firing the fully loaded arsenal he had....and now he’s pimping for the whore Romney. Further evidencing he’s not our guy and neither is Romney...they’re wolves in sheeps clothing and as dangerous if not moreso than even Obama. At least we know he’s a wolf and he shows his teeth.
We cant even find a majority of voters on this site who would back Santorum and feel confident he would be elected in the general. While Newt has his negatives he is a fiscal conservative and I believe much more socially conservative than most people realize. Newt would not have had the 34% poll numbers if he was radioactive among Independents. Take Santorum out of the picture and Newt would garner all of his and Perrys old numbers. He would beat Romney by 20 points and Obama by 10.
And the same thing could be said for all of them when they all had they’re week in the spotlight. The media keeps telling the sheeple that only Romney can beat Obama.THIS IS A LIE.Romney will be annihilated by Obama with RomneyCare flip flops. We will have two pairs of flip flops in Obama Romney. Give it time people will figure out Romney is not what he seems.
“Budget was never balanced. Debt went up every year”
Your facts are wrong...Gingrich presided over the only balanced budgets in a long time...persuading Clinton to come along, a political fete rare in occurrence.
In 1996 the budget deficit was significantly reduced from previous years. The next year, the deficit was again lowered significantly. The budgets for 1998 and 1999 spent less money than they took in, allowing a portion of the national debt to be paid off.
I think it's both. But I maintain he never wanted this from the beginning...he didnt want the risk of going down with the ship if the holes can't be plugged quick enough....and especially since he rides high in the Texas saddle as Governor. He'll have a great legacy remaining in Texas....and few would trade that off for taking on where our nation is now.. who want to retain their political posts.
That's another reason I'm in Newt's court....he's not in it to make a name for himself for further political points...this is his baby here and now and he has nothing to loose by giving it his all.
Have a great day.
With Bachmann out of the race, I think Santorum is the best candidate we have and I'll be pulling the lever for him when my state primary rolls around on March 6. That's assuming he'll still be a player then (I sure hope he is).
AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGHH
OH NOEZ OH NOEZ
Rick Santorum is creeping up on Willie Mitty...
What to do ??? What to do ???
