What a difference a caucus makes. Rick Santorum who two months ago had one percent (1%) support among likely South Carolina Republican Primary voters now is running a close second there with 24% of the vote.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.
Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%). Another two percent (2%) of these likely primary voters like some other candidate, and 11% remain undecided

Just talked to my brother, who has many friends in republican circles all over the state. He said their internal polls show Newt with about a 20 point lead on Romney all over the State. He said mainstream polls like CNN and especially Rasmussen are not reliable because they do not poll the entire state, most concentrating on the Charleston area and areas like Hilton Head in the Lowlands. In otherwords the carpetbagger area of the state. He also went on to say that he had a better chance of winning the lottery that Romney does of carrying SC. He also said that the only reason McCain won the state in 2008 is because McCain was seen as a war hero and SC is big on the military. I have no reason to doubt my brother’s thoughts and observations on the state of politics in SC. He’s a retired chief of police, die-hard republican, and conservative to the bone.
Perry is ignoring NH. Romney has a lock on it. The only possible upset is by Ron Paul or Santorum. He has a lot of money and can stay in for more contests. This won’t be settled early so there is no real reason for him to quit, yet, as long as he has funds.
“I agree with everything you wrote. It is not the federal gov responsibility and it is unfortunate that conservatives dont take away liberals biggest weapon.”
Real conservatives maintain all 3 pillars of Reagan conservatism....economic, social, national security
I don’t like tax increases.
But when you look in the mirror, the enemy is - us!!!
As long as the public demands extravagent services from the government, their will be a price to pay.
Years ago,it was the responsibility of familes to take care of aged and infirm parents. Today, they can’t be bothered. They want a government program to do it. It comes with a price tag.
And that is just a very small example of what I’m saying.
(DISCLAIMER: This is NOT meant to be offensive to elderly infirm people or their non-care-givers. I’m always a politically correct commentor.)
“Im just sayin 2 weeks ago Newt was leading by 15. Now hes down by 8.”
Just saying and just ignorin. Gingrich got 11mill of negative ads in one tiny state
Santorum has a lot to prove...he will face weeks of attacks now from the Romney/GOP-E/MSM who are hellbent on delivering us Romney.
If her survives after Florida, he will likely be the nominee...a long time in this race.
I just wish two of them would step out and endorse the third one and at this point, I don’t care much which although I feel Santorum or Gingrich would do a better job on the ObamaBastard.
I don’t need the title of “real conservative”. I am satisfied with the name given to me at birth or the titles of American or patriot. Have a good day.
It’s a conservative site.
What is his problem, first he is as sharp as a basketball and second, he is as sharp as a basketball, and that is the way he comes across to people, and third his wife wants him to run, not him.
I have recently been reading the biographies and web site position papers on all of these guys. Perry does not appear to be RINO from what I have seen.
Nailed it???? First impressions last.

Agreed...but there are three choices and each have loyal supporters who are not going to just vote for someone else...and each candidate honestly feels they are the best.
Until one and then two of them are defeated enough to bow out, the vote will remain split and that will only help Romney.
DeMint has not endorsed Romney this election cycle, and it is unlikely he will endorse anyone.
You will have to excuse me while I keep looking at the car wreck.
After Iowa, any happy talk about these guys just amounts to bluster. Big crowds this, solid platform that. Bachman boasted of her crowds too.
I heard his speeches and didn’t hear anything but an average politician giving expected taking points.
Nothing there stood out as anything to get excited about.
‘He said their internal polls show Newt with about a 20 point lead on Romney all over the State’
Did he say when the polls were done?
And I will trust my uncle's assessment long before I trust a strangers.
Gov Haley seems to be the RINO fake TeaPartier South Carolinian this year.
She is getting almost no flack for endorsing Romney this early.
I’d like to assist a challenge against her in 14.
SC will follow McPain to endorse Romney! Even the exit of the wrong Rick Perry won’t be quite enough to put the Right Rick Santorum over the top. But Santorum has made gains that few have expected.
