Newt won't congratulate Mitt on win (MittBot Alert)
Politico ^ | 12/4/12 | Ginger Gibson

Posted on 01/04/2012 12:59:12 PM PST by teddyballgame1

POLITICO's Ginger Gibson reports:

Newt Gingrich still won't congratulate Mitt Romney for winning the Iowa caucuses.

At a news conference in Concord, N.H., Gingrich was asked by CBS correspondent Dean Reynolds why he congratulated Rick Santorum but not Romney.

Gingrich stared at the reporter and raised his eyebrows in silence, eventually drawing laughter from some of the reporters. "Because I know you would be a man of great professionalism, I know that's a rhetorical question. And a good one," Gingrich said.

During his speech in Des Moines last night, Gingrich visibly seethed at mention of Romney, who along with his supporters ran a barrage of attack ads against the former speaker. Romney said he'd spoken with every GOP rival last night except Gingrich.

I’m not a Gingrich voter, but I don’t see a problem with the answer. You don’t need to kiss the ass of every primary victor. Save it for the convention

Agreed. Why would Newt congratulate Mitt when he ran a dirty campaign? Congratulations would just signal, hey, I'm OK with all the dirty ads and establishment attacks. I am going to SC and bending over, stick it to me again.

No, you need to send a signal that this type of campaign is dangerous and could cost you the general. Sarah Palin did this last night when she warned them not to attach Ron Paul and his supporters.

This is why Newt would be a terrible President. Too thinned skinned. Reminds me of when he complained of having to sit in the back of Air Force One on a trip to Rome for Pope John Paul's funeral. I'd vote for Santorum over Newt in a minute.

No. This is an example of why we're the stupid party from top to bottom. You've gotten in an uproar over an article by the Leftist Politico about a rhetorical question asked of a conservative candidate by a leftist MSM reporter meant to cast their RINO candidate in the best possible light so that he can go on to lose to their preferred candidate - Obama.

Doesn't sound terribly bright to me.

You also got the Rome trip story wrong. Newt wasn't mad about sitting in the back of the plane he was mad about being forced to leave Air Force One from the rear exit onto the tarmac. Yes, I agree that was a mistake on his part. BUT, I refuse to let POLITICO select my candidate or to let you use POLITICO to shill for a RINO candidate.

Why?

This is a war. You want Mr. “Aw sucks, I dont wanna offend anybody” Santorum? Ok!

See how far that gets you with Obama who will bend Rick over a counter and wont congratulate him for taking it without screaming.

People have been complaining for a fighter, and now some people want the actual fighter to be nice to Mitt?

My father told me that when you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything. I can certainly understand Newt declining to make nice to a man he thinks is a lying dirtbag.

Personally, I’m fed up with the turn the other cheek types, and I find the idea of a man with an actual temper in the White House to be refreshing. There is a reason why players on the international stage think twice about crossing Putin, but go out of their was to kick sand in Obama’s face.

Look for Newt to piss in Mitt’s Wheaties when the opportunity presents itself. He might even do it more than once. I sincerely hope that he does. Mitt has it coming, in my book.

Agreed, I wouldn’t want my candidate giving congrats to Romney either.

Save it for the general where grace and protocol must be observed.

Cry Baby Alert?

ARe you for real? We need someone on our side who has some guts and not afraid to show it.

I think Romney has shown his true colors, and very few people in the media or on the campaign trail have gone after him. I think Michelle Bachman’s demise was largely due to her pettiness and dishonesty in attacking Perry and Gingrich.

I think it’s clear to me and to many here on FR. There are two camps, just two. YOu’re either for Romney or you’re not. If Romney gets the nomination, I for one will vote for him as I did for McCain, but make no mistake about it. The man is a snake. He will do anything he can to try and win this nomination, then sell us all out in the end.

I’m sick and tired of the weak sisters who represent us. It’s not a question of cry babying....I’m sure Newt will be asked about again, and he’ll eventually congratulate the guy.

As I just posted on another thread:

Look. I heard Hannity the other day decrying the "lies" told about Newt in the ads run against him in Iowa. The example Sean gave was that one ad apparently claimed Newt supported "amnesty."

Well, Hell's Bells. You can sit there all you want and talk about a technical definition of amnesty, but the fact is that Newt did propose an immigration policy that allowed illegal immigrants to stay in the U.S. Sorry, Newt, but, rightly or wrongly, that is very easy to characterize as "amnesty," and someone who was truly a savvy politician, as opposed to a motormouth, would know that. It doesn't matter whether it is technically amnesty or not. As presented, it is a policy that many do not agree with.

Moreover, when Newt announced this proposal, he prefaced it by saying something like "I know I'm going to get into trouble [with conservatives] on this." IOW, Newt knew VERY WELL that what he was about to propose could and would be characterized as amnesty, no matter what he said about.

On that basis alone, I think Gingrich -- and Hannity -- gave up any basis whatsoever for complaining about Gingrich's immigration position being characterized as amnesty. Gingrich knew that was going to be a problem and he went there, in the way he did, at the time he did, with the words he did, anyway.

Gingrich took the risk that he would be unable to persuade people that his policy did not amount to amnesty (and regardless of the technical definition thereof), and now he had to pay the piper.

That is all.

And that is typical Newt. Say something in such a way that it requires millions of hours of detailed analysis and explanation to get out the liberal stench that accompanied the original explanation.

LOL...why should he congratulate Willard for running hundreds of ugly ads against him? I don’t care for any of the candidates, but Willard certainly has plummeted in the character department after seeing his tactics in Iowa. I will never vote for this MA liberal flip-flopper.

Too thin skinned?? F- off. Romney lied about Gingrich in his ads in Iowa and now Newt is too thin skinned??? Just wait until the next debate and we will see if Romney ends up crapping in his magic underpants.

So you would vote for Santorum? No big deal. So would I, but we ain’t talking about Santorum, are we? What a douche.

Would you for Mittens, too? Are you pleased that Mittens won the Iowa caucuss? What a maroon.

If I were Newt, I’d tell Mittens to lick my groove and suck my patoot. (And so can you, for that matter.) Get of Free Republic and go back to Politico, HuffPo, or the Romney Campaign HQ, Douche Bag. FR is for conservatives; Not RINO’s.

Again, what a maroon. Good for Newt. Now, P!ss off!

“It’s a measure of ‘maturity’, not politics. The losing team’s coach, even in Little League, congratulates the winning team on their victory. Most children learn this princple - it appears that this childhood lesson was missed by Newt.”

I’m sure Churchill also sent a nice letter of congratulation to Hitler after Dunkirk?

This isnt some peewee baseball game. Newt doesn’t owe that dumb bastard the time of day.

Save graciousness for the convention. In the meantime, don’t validate the dirty politics Romney played by bending over with fake congratulations for it.

All this tells us is Gingrich has a temper which he can control.

With the onslaught of islamofascism, we need a president with a bad temper controlled by careful thinking.

You can always congratulate a guy out of one side of the mouth and right afterward slap him out the other side of the mouth.

Newt did it well when he gave the reason Mittsie wasn't a career politician, "because he lost to Ted Kennedy".

When something like this happens, it reminds me of the time Claytie Williams ran for Governor of Texas.
He didn't shake Ann Richardson's hand in a public debate and that in many opinions cost him the governorship.
