Virginia Attorney General Intervenes in GOP Primary Ballot Dispute

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is intervening in the Virginia presidential primary dispute and plans to file emergency legislation to address the inability of most Republican presidential candidates to get their name on the ballot, Fox News has learned. Only Mitt Romney and Ron Paul qualified for the Virginia primary, a contest with 49 delegates up for grabs. The failure of other candidates to qualify -- notably Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry -- led to complaints that the 10,000-signature requirement is too stringent. Cuccinelli, who is a Republican, shared the concerns. "Recent events have underscored that our system is deficient," he said in a statement. "Virginia owes her citizens a better process. We can do it in time for the March primary if we resolve to do so quickly." Cuccinelli's proposal is expected to state that if the Virginia Board of Elections certifies that a candidate is receiving federal matching funds, or has qualified to receive them, that candidate will upon request be automatically added to the ballot. Two former Democratic attorneys general are also backing the move, along with a former Democratic state party chairman and a former Republican state party chairman. Former state Attorney General Tony Troy called the Virginia process a "legal and constitutional embarrassment."

Wrong! The score is:

Newt Gingrich or Rick Perry = The lion’s share of the VA delegates
Willard Romney = Didly squat
Ron Paul = Didly squat

Per the Journal Editorial Report on Fox News...Newts slide has stopped in Iowa due to his jobs and economy focus.

The Va. Gov. probably was shaking in his boots to think that Ron Paul would win over Romney as a protest there and embarrass him.

Wrong, the process has been in place since the eighties, and noot will not win virginia, it is just the situation as it stands, and acting like algore does nothing to help them. This situation is as stupid as the statement someone made about george h bush not endorsing perry. Hell fire when bush, the senior, ran for president, perry was a full fledged algore demorat.

I’m not a Romulus or Paul fan, but how did the Governor of VA cause the rest of the pack not to get enough legal signatures to qualify? Are u saying it’s the Governors fault for the lack of legal signatures?

Who do you think will win VA on March 6th, which is 10 weeks away? That’s a good amount of time for Newt to gain even more wins along the way.

How about the political aspect of Cooch’s proposal?

There is an R ‘establishment opposed to changing the law- but they'll be run over by the Dems teaming up with the ‘Tea Party’ Rs.

Bolling (Romney's state chair) can gracefully go along or not: IE he's irrelevant.

Might even prevent the Dems from a walkout or such when the Senate organizes...

If the Dems think there is a preordained nominee who might be hurt by a bruising, extended primary fight, I could see them supporting this. It isn’t the only reason to do so, but one of them.

I am of the personal opinion that this current fiasco will be corrected. It does deprive the voters of VA of their free choice, and makes the state look incompetent.

AS in: if your school receives Federal money, you can not invoke Religion into the school activity, if you receive Fed. money....you can't or you must...etc. etc. etc.

That is, should be, a violation of the free exercise clause of the 1st Amendment.

If a law passed by Congress prohibits free expression of religion, it is, should be, null and void.

That is a plain reading of the 1st Amendment.
