Shock Poll : Romney 45% Obama 39% [Drudge Headline]
Rasmussen Reports ^ | DECEMBER 27, 2011 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 12/29/2011 7:16:12 AM PST by RobinMasters

Mitt Romney has now jumped to his biggest lead ever over President Obama in a hypothetical Election 2012 matchup. It’s also the biggest lead a named Republican candidate has held over the incumbent in Rasmussen Reports surveying to date.

The latest national telephone survey finds that 45% of Likely U.S. Voters favor the former Massachusetts governor, while 39% prefer the president. Ten percent (10%) like some other candidate in the race, and six percent (6%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

A week ago, Romney trailed Obama 44% to 41%. The week before that, he held a slight 43% to 42% edge over the president. The two candidates have been essentially tied in regular surveys since January, but Romney remains the only GOP hopeful to lead Obama in more than one survey. Despite Romney’s current six-point lead, his latest level of support is in line with the 38% to 45% he has earned in matchups with the president this year. However, Obama’s 39% is a new low: Prior to this survey, his support has ranged from 40% to 46% in matchups with Romney.

A generic Republican candidate holds a narrow lead over the president again this week as has been the case all but three times in weekly tracking since late May. Obama leads all the other named GOP candidates by as little as seven and as much as 15 percentage points. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Governor Rick Perry and businessman Herman Cain have all surged ahead of the president at one point but did not maintain those leads.

Mitt Romney is the candidate that the Obama people want to face.

For those who think Mitt Romney will be our next president, forget about it because "President Romney" is just not going to happen. Either Romney will lose the nomination or he'll lose to Obama in November. Choose your poison accordingly.

Mitt Romney just does not have a very good track record in elections and Obama, with his billion dollars, will blow him out in a general . For you must all realize that even if Mitt was a conservative we could back, he is a pushover, a milquetoast, who has only won ONE election in his political career. And even that victory was a unimpressive 5-point win in the Massachusetts 2002 gubernatorial election against one of the biggest lightweights the Democrats ever ran in a statewide election (Shannon O'Brien). How much of a lightweight was Shannon O'Brien? Well, despite being a lifelong Massachusetts resident, I had to Google Mitt Romney's Wikipedia article yesterday to get her name because I had forgotten all about her.

So Mitt Romney's only political victory ever was against a no-name political hack that nobody outside of Beacon Hill would even recognize in a line-up.

Once Romney got in the governor's chair, he was so apparently disinterested in the job that not only did he not run for re-election, but he didn't even bother grooming a replacement for him so that when the 2006 elections occurred, the people of Massachusetts were saddled with Obama-clone Deval Patrick, who is shaping up to be the most incompetent governor in our history - and this includes even Mike Dukakis.

Romney apparently only used the governorship to impose mandatory health care on us, an initiative that he hoped he could use as a springboard for his 2008 presidential run, before it all went up in flames.

If you still aren't convinced that Mitt Romney does not have what it takes to win a national election, consider that in 1994, which, remember, was a big Republican year, Romney was trounced by Ted Kennedy in a senate bid. Now Ted Kennedy was very beatable that year but Romney ran a listless, lackluster campaign and got buried accordingly. And some Republicans still think they want this guy to be their standard-bearer against Obama in 2012?

Trust me, if Romney gets this nomination, the only thing Romney will need to work on next summer is his concession speech - which is something, I might add, that he has more than a little experience with.

If Romney gets this nomination, he will go down in history with John McCain and Bob Dole as just another gracious loser - a nice guy running an uninspiring campaign while the liberal Democrats kick his butt from Maine to California. A Mitt Romney nomination will be a disaster for the Republicans, which is why the mainstream media is giving him the kid glove treatment while all the other candidates get anal exams. The Democrats love Mitt Romney almost as much as they loved John McCain.

The thing is that these polls assume a united Republican party. We’re not.

Mormons don’t serve in the military. Refuse to serve in the military. Let someone else do it.

Polls are used to change perceptions of the masses. Agitprop. They can make-up any number. I can’t stand Romney—he is the same as zero. If the poll was truthful—it would be a tie.

We are supposed to believe that there has been a 9 or 10 point swing from Obama to Romney in just the last week?

Utter nonsense!

Agree. This is part of the setup to make Romney the nominee. By the time the primaries get to OH, it will be meaningless, but I’m leaning toward Santorum or a Palin write-in now.

Why don’t you guys believe this. The moderate Republicans and Dems I speak with are for Romney. I am afraid he is the only one who can beat Obama. I used to not think so, but the press has succeeded in poisoning the field, and the candidates have had done a good job of screwing up as wel..
Yell and scream a and call me names all you want but it will not change the facts.

If we are stuck with Romney-the-RINO as the Republican Candidate, we're not going to see ANY Conservative changes, just not-quite as severe at GROWING GOVERNMENT like The Messiah/Pelosi/Reid.....BUT, NONE of the bloated, over-spent, bankrupting Socialist Programs that have been put in place (along with assorted Czars, Union-dominated Regulatory Bodies, etc.) will be un-done by a Romney-The-RINO Administration.

We're screwed either way....

It’s all part of the DNC’s plan. Once they unload Kennedy’s 1994 ad campaign on him, Romney’s toast. As Weekly Standard pointed out, Romney always starts out strong in his campaigns and then gradually fades away as more and more people get turned off and underwhelmed. He’s got the “look” of a good politician, but he’s even more of an empty suit than Obama with no record, no substance, no core values, no accomplishments, no achievements. Newt is just the opposite, doesn’t look like much, but he wins people over with great ideas, a winning attitude and real substance over the course of a campaign.

During Mitt Romney’s failed one-term governorship, Massachusetts ranked 47th in the nation in job creation, not much of a selling point for a guy whose sole claim to fame is that he supposedly can fix our economy. Romney lost the Senate race to Ted Kennedy in 1994 by 17 points on the same day that Newt and many other Republicans swept into office and took control of the House from the Democrats for the first time in 40 years. The Democrat machine absolutely savaged Romney in that Senate race with ads detailing his checkered record at Bain Capital, which consisted of layoffs, a huge government bailout and his profiting off of companies as he sent them into bankruptcy. Romney had to back off of the claim that he was a job creator at all, which left him with no record to run on. He comes across to people as a cold, calculating salesman that you can’t get to know and certainly can’t trust. He is quite possibly the least electable candidate in the whole Republican primary field.

“Mormons don’t serve in the military. Refuse to serve in the military.”

Wow. What exactly have you been smoking today?

My father was a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne DIvision. My brother was in the Navy. Many many of my extended family served. I’ve had uncles die serving this country.

Take your incoherent ignorant bigotry elsewhere.
