NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Don't worry, Gingrich supporters -- despite the falling poll numbers in Iowa over the last week, your guy remains most likely to win the Republican nomination. Let me explain why and how.
First of all, let's stipulate that this race isn't about the issues anymore. Newt Gingrich's positions are mostly similar to Mitt Romney's positions, both of whom are to the left of most of the other candidates, such as Perry and Bachmann in particular.
A few days before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, people have come to peace with the candidates' ideological positions, and it's all about electability and willingness of primary voters to cast the ballot. The conventional wisdom is of course that Romney is the most "electable" candidate, and that is probably true in some sense. But only in some. Romney clearly has many fine merits, including years of being vetted, having a distinguished business background, a first-class family, and he is a generally very smart and polished man.

Santorum could be a good Veep.
Have decided to support Newt in the caucuses. Wouldn’t mind Santorum either. I think Newt has the best chance to defeat Obama and would be the best President out of the the bunch. Rightly or wrongly, my paramount issue is to see this president replaced.
Also, it is clear that Perry,Bachmann, and Santorum are swimming in the same pool. Two need to get out or all three don’t have a chance. I say Santorum stays and the other two bail out.
I’m in NW florida, I won’t be voting for Newt, and quite frankly, the only bumper stickers I see around here have an O on them. 2O12 is what they look like, and this is an ultra conservative little, country town that doesn’t sell liquor on sundays....
If you’re unemployed, who do you vote for? Newt has driven the race car before. Newt knows the track and how to move obstacles from his path. He sees the conservative finish line because he’s been there before. Mitt sat in the back seat until his democratic chauffeurs dropped him off and waved good bye. Mitt may have studied the owners manual and his instructors all praised him on the beginner track but can he get us to the conservative finish line. Would you bet you child’s/your future on Mitt?
Depending on the stupidity demonstrated by Iowans if they go for RPaul, will demonstrate again that Iowa caucases are meaningless.
And the only one such candidate who can consolidate the Republican vote will be Gingrich. If he just stays in the race and doesn't make any mistakes, he is therefore likely to win. It is the inevitable dynamic after New Hampshire is over.
Not so very obvious for two reasons - (1) Do not claim to understand the thinking of women (seriously), and (2) Consider the alternative (and I won't explain that).
*** Newt was ousted as Speaker of the House partly due to a coup within his own party lead by.....LINDSEY GRAHAM & his RINO friends. ***
That seals the deal for my support of Newt.
I would love to see the pretender in chief locked up where he belongs. It doesnt help that our congress keeps handing him unemployment extensions, higher debt ceiling. I worked hard last election to defeat obama. I worked harder than McLame. I vowed never again. I dont see any candidate in the field able to defeat obama. And the msm will destroy any that try.
And you are the supreme expert on the “women’s vote” by what measure? I suspect we are getting a load of projection with a grandeous notion of your insight.
Curious as to how your photo post connects with the “women” vote.
Try promoting your candidate by telling us about their positive attributes, rather than the tired ploy of petty bashing others.
Surprisingly enough, many women actually vote based on who they think is going to be best for their families and future. That doesn’t mean that most of them are particularly well-equipped to figure out who that person might be. And before other women get upset, let me point out that Obama was not elected by women’s votes alone, and that many other people, particularly young males, seemed to have that same problem.
I think Gingrich is offering a positive vision of the future, and one that is practical, has the details, and has a good chance of succeeding. And I think that’s what women will be voting for.
They don’t care how many wives he’s had (heck, at least he married them...) and I don’t think most women care that he doesn’t look like George Clooney. Also, after the last disastrous election, I suspect women may put a little more effort into looking at the candidate’s actual positions and not his likeablility. I never liked Obama, but that clearly put me in the minority, since most Americans, both male and female, seemed to think he was adorable...but that’s gone now.
Newt was ousted as Speaker of the House due to pressure from a group including the most conservative Republican Congressmen, such as Tom Coburn.
The fine print is demospeak for “We got another R to do something incredibly stupid.”
From Key West north to Del Ray you won’t find Newt in the lead. If Santorum gets any traction in Iowa you will see Newt losing voters to him. After Iowa and SC I think Floridians will back one of the two in the top spots. JMO - it won’t be NG
I am leaning for Newt but I have no problem voting for Newt, Perry, Santorum or Bachmann. The GOP field of candidates is pretty good this year. Its too bad the MSM and the GOP elite leadership are slamming them all so bad that a lot of republican voters start to believe the negative hype.
I’m laughing as I type.
The liberals assumed power, put every feel-good liberal tenet into actual law, and the people don’t like it. As a matter of fact the country’s in a very foul mood-and afraid.
So afraid that we’re going to hire a Sheriff to clean up this mess. Sheriff Newt has already told us Barney Frank and Chris Dodd should go to jail. He’s implied he’d make John Bolton part of his posse. Everybody knows he’s mean. Heck, we WANT mean!
Gingrich will be the libs worst nightmare, and they can chalk it up to their own overreach, their own failed world view, their own stupidity.
Gingrich. Who woulda thunk it? I’ll vote for him just BECAUSE the libs hate him so much.
If that's the case, then what's up with all this "a vote for Santorum-Bachmann-Perry is a vote for Romney" crap?
