Iranian state and semi-official media lined up behind the regime this week in a show of nationalistic pride as Irans navy began 10 days of war games designed to showcase its regional dominance and display its ability to shut off the crucial Strait of Hormuz if threatened.
Naval spokesmen were quoted as saying the Velayat 90 maneuvers, the biggest ever of their kind, were being held across a vast area from the Gulf of Oman to the Gulf of Aden waters stretching between Somalia in the west, the Indian subcontinent in the east, and Oman and Yemen to the north.
The exercises would involve warships, submarines, helicopters and the testing of missiles, torpedoes, missile defense systems, drones and electronic warfare equipment.
Navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the drills were intended to display the prowess of Irans armed forces and the navys defensive and deterrent power as well as its capability to provide security for vessels sailing on the open seas.
Another navy official said the warships had ordered a military helicopter belonging to an unnamed trans-regional country to leave the area Sunday after it entered the international waters where the war games were being held.
No further details were given, but the hardline Keyhan daily observed that the only trans-regional countries to have deployed military assets in the area are the United States, Britain and France.
Another Iranian news outlet, ISNA, reported that an Iranian destroyer involved......of a Saudi oil tanker which had been attacked by unknown boats....
--snip--
Up to 40 percent of daily tanker-shipped oil worldwide travels through the strait, which is less than 30 miles wide at its narrowest point. Its shipping lanes, one for tanker traffic in each direction, are just two miles (3.2 kilometers) across, making it a highly vulnerable chokepoint...

Just as they deceive themself and millions with their Islamic-fascist fantasy world on the Unicorn Farm, they deceive themselves on the deep capacity of the United States’ military technological superiority. I can imagine the laughter their empty threats are creating in the military sector. In fact, I . I . . Ah . . . he . . . he he . . . ha ha ha ha ha ha . . . ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Help! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha I can’t stop! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Whew!
Thanks Iran for a good laugh and LOL and all that stuff!
They don’t need to warn us; our midnight retreat from Iraq and failure to win in Afghanistan should be warning enough for us that we don’t have the people needed to win wars in this area. We can always bomb or lob missiles, but as far as winning a ground war with boots on the ground, that simply isn’t an option anymore.
You might just be referring to failures in our political leaders to commit our military to total war instead of peace keeping, police action, delivering pizza, etc.
Our nation has not committed our Armed Services to total war since the Japanese surrendered on the deck of the USS Missouri.
FYI, total war refers to the complete annihilation of our enemy to the extent that they will never have the capacity to pose a serious threat to ANYBODY, ever.
Correct you are Rearden. The last time we were serious about war was on August 9, 1945. Since then we fight with one hand tied behind our backs and a lot of good men die because of it.
STFU persian... we would destroy your little boat collection in less than 48 hours.

Sure it is. All this country needs is some starch in its shorts and a political leadership with meddle. The American soldier is the greatest on planet Earth.
This is so true it's laughable. Heaven help a nation that dare take on the US on the high seas.
For the record....... why should our troops remain in Iraq rather than Kuwait where many remain along with untold amounts of equipment?
Precisely what benefit is derived from remaining in Iraq?
Let them wargame with our boys for about 15 minutes and all of their ships and hardware will be sitting on the bottom of the straights of Hormuz.
“Sure it is. All this country needs is some starch in its shorts and a political leadership with meddle. The American soldier is the greatest on planet Earth.”
There aren’t enough of “us” to beat “them”; we’ve even imported “them” into our own country.
“Precisely what benefit is derived from remaining in Iraq?”
Since you raise that question, I’ll ask what benefit was derived from going there in the first place? Don’t say we “won” anything. The bombs exploding around Iraq today are the bombs that Saddam kept under control for decades.
See, you rant and spout balderdash but can’t articulate what you mean because you are wrong
W will be known in history for sending his general Tommy Franks to conquer Baghdad. He did
W merely ended the war on going since 1991.
The purpose was to eliminate Saddam Hussein and protect our interests in the Gulf. It was successful. Your whining about the trivial deaths resulting from settling old scores in Iraq are just plain irrelevant.
History is a process, not an event. History is not a football game with explicitly defined time borders.
Your anti W hatred is misguided.
Nice non-answer.
I voted for W twice, and would vote for him again. Our interests are worse off today than ever; that is why our forces retreated at night (and openly admitted it was because the people we were “saving” might attack them as they escaped).
Try again.
Happy New Year my FRiend!
