TSA screenings aren't just for airports anymore
L.A. Times ^ | 12/26/11 | By Brian Bennett, Washington Bureau

Reporting from Charlotte, N.C.— Rick Vetter was rushing to board the Amtrak train in Charlotte, N.C., on a recent Sunday afternoon when a canine officer suddenly blocked the way.

Three federal air marshals in bulletproof vests and two officers trained to spot suspicious behavior watched closely as Seiko, a German shepherd, nosed Vetter's trousers for chemical traces of a bomb. Radiation detectors carried by the marshals scanned the 57-year-old lawyer for concealed nuclear materials.

When Seiko indicated a scent, his handler, Julian Swaringen, asked Vetter whether he had pets at home in Garner, N.C. Two mutts, Vetter replied. "You can go ahead," Swaringen said.

The Transportation Security Administration isn't just in airports anymore. TSA teams are increasingly conducting searches and screenings at train stations, subways, ferry terminals and other mass transit locations around the country.

I’m not in favor of political theater, but I have a hard time understanding the opposition that frequently appears on this board to the very idea that there have to be searches of luggage and passengers on public transportation, especially airplanes. It is necessary. It’s necessary, of course, because of Islamist terrorism. But it is necessary, and it seems silly or worse to blame the gubmint for that need.

Airports are one thing. But randomly searching train stations, football games, and highway truck stops is a ridiculous waste of time because they are so infrequent that the odds of a terrorist being there when one of these checks happening is much less than everyone in America being hit by a bolt of lightning at the same time.

The only reason for these VIPR raids is to prepare Americans for living in a Soviet Style police state and those that are implementing these VIPR teams are traitors and should be tried for that crime.

Soon they will be having roadblocks and searching cars individually, which is clearly unconstitutional, but ok because it is in the name of terrorism.

On the one hand it burns me....on the other with the rise of Islam, Latinos from Mexico, Central and South America and all they bring...this may become common place in the near future. With American administrations unable to cope with a free society, free economy and the push from Marxists/Socialists/Communists to “equalize” everything you’ll be seeing security on every corner even gated communities for lower class citizens to keep out the destitute....

Unless the owners of the train line or station, the owners of the subways, ferry terminals and other mass transit locations have hired or have asked for TSA to do this, they are in violation of the 4th Amendment and will be getting some surly behavior from some people I'm sure.

The TSA is a first rate joke. It’s unionized, it protects the idiots it employs and does exactly nada to “secure” us. The problem lies with our Government and the PC bullshit that says islam is NOT the problem, and Oh, Look! A bunch of imam’s over there; hey everyone, roll out the red carpet for them!! When we get to the business of hurting feelings BECAUSE their damn “religion” is a hoax and perpetrates nothing but oppression and calling it as such is the day we can stop bitching about half-wits encroaching further and further into our lives. Our Government is to blame, liberals are to blame, communists in this country are to blame. The TSA is to blame for not telling congress it needs to profile (but then again, the TSA is over-run with hand-picked leftists already)

It is necessary. It’s necessary, of course, because of Islamist terrorism.

The objections arise because they are not profiling or looking for Islamists. They seem to be going out of their way to NOT do so.

If they were actively profiling it would be different.

It’s necessary, of course, because of Islamist terrorism.

It's also necessary because our government chooses not to control the borders, run a sane immigration system, and not punish immigration violators severely enough to discourage them. The policy is like leaving open sores without disinfecting and bandaging and simultaneously treating with antibiotics.

Sounds like the democrats and this administration is “training” the American public in the ways of Hitler’s Germany and the Kremlins frisking and identification papers to be submissive to personal invasion. Next they may being “invading” our homes for countraband and other outlawed materials to “their”, government.

Where is the ACLU on this??

Rhetorical question I assume.

The ACLU is essentially a communist organization. In the big picture, as long as it is their side running government terrorism, they are all for it.

Which is typical of the left. They admire police states.

Remember when George Bush brought over a bunch of Iraqis after Iraqi I? These arabs, plus new comers and old moles are now in charge of Detroit and other places where mosques rule what the arab/muslims think and do.

“Seiko, a German shepherd” I get it. He’s a watch dog.
When he chases his tail he’s just winding himself up.

"I was in Union Station in Chicago last week and there was a TSA guy with a dog (a mutt) wearing a “Do Not Pet” vest walking around sniffing for bombs. The dog was wagging his tail and having the time of his life.:

Who was wearing the vest? the dog or the TSA dude?

I wonder how much the dude is being paid for walking his dog. I need a job and I do know how to walk a dog and my dog knows how to sniff. He's a German Shepherd.

Who,in this glorious world, would pet a dog attached to someone in uniform? The "Do Not Pet" sign is stupid. There are many illiterates roaming this earth.

Is it okay to give that dog a treat? LOL

Jefferson said, “ Those who will trade liberty for security deserves neither.”

And if I missed the sarcasm I am sorry, or else you are an idiot.

Not to worry. The ACLU is busy protecting us from Christmas Carolers, Nativity Scenes and the raging Amish who want to destroy us.

LOL! The dog was wearing the vest. I’ll be honest with you, the dog was a really cute looking mutt, and looked so happy and his tail was wagging like crazy, I was really tempted to go up and pet him. If it was a German Shepherd or a Doberman or a dog with one of those muzzles over his snout, I would never have thought about it.

But that’s where the blame lies, not with the TSA.

You couldn't be more wrong. The TSA is not tracking Islamic terrorism. It is barely even faking an interest in it. A cheap whore could fake an orgasm better.

The TSA has two missions. The first is to intimidate American citizens. The second, which is not yet [fully] implemented, is to track American citizens; NOT illegals, NOT terrorists.

Next on the agenda is the detention of political dissidents, per the military appropriations bill.

There is nothing "silly" about any of this.

Two mutts, Vetter replied. "You can go ahead," Swaringen said.

"John has a long mustache" said the traveler. "You're free to go" the security agent replied not realizing that the droids he was looking for had cracked the code.
