House speaker John Boehner is set to sign an offer from Obama to accelerate negotiations.
Republicans in the House of Representatives have capitulated in the showdown over the payroll tax, handing Barack Obama an important victory going into election year.
Under pressure from other senior Republicans for blocking a bill that would extend tax cuts to millions of Americans, the House speaker, John Boehner, is backing away from his insistence that any deal must cover a full year.
A deal agreed by Republicans and Democrats in the Senate on Saturday covers two months, to allow further negotiations in January. It appears that Boehner will sign up to an offer from Obama to accelerate these negotiations.
The deal means that, after a year of humiliation at the hands of congressional Republicans who have repeatedly threatened to close down the federal government, Obama is close to a much-needed victory.
The decisive moment came when ther Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, after days of silence, lined up behind Barack Obama and the Democrats.
Boehner was blocking passage of a bill that would extend tax breaks to 160 million Americans, a measure introduced by Obama last year to help stimulate the US economy. If the bill is not passed by 31 December, American taxpayers face cuts in their pay of an average of $40 every two weeks. About 1.3 million people stand to lose unemployment benefit.

I thought it was stupid for the GOP to fight this anyway. All for tax cut but these are revenues that have to be paid back later. Cuts in the general fund to offset won’t help with that.
Better to crow about the pipeline and criticize this as too small than nitpick over how long we short SS of obligated funds.

What good has it done us to have the House under Republican control? It hasn’t done “us” any good. But it gives obama and his worshippers someone to blame.
“As I heard yesterday, Republicans never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.”
And frankly, that misses the point, COMPLETELY.
We got clobbered by leftist PROPAGANDA. And if we ALL don’t have a collective wakeup, it’s going to clobber us again in November.
Despite the FACTS that Republicans passed this tax cut, FOR A YEAR, the MEME was that Repubs were against it. That’s all the sheeple heard. that’s what the hourly radio news updates on the way home from work told them, I heard it myself.
That’s what the Daily Show told them. That’s what “The View” told them. That’s what the headline was on the iPhone told them. That’s what the link on Facebook told them.
They haven’t heard about the 20+ jobs bills gathering dust on Reid’s desk, because the media won’t tell them.
No matter how much some on here may want to say otherwise, Fox News and the internet are not the media.
CBS, ABC, NBC are. And until we FORCE them to begin reporting the truth, in spite of whatever bias they might have, we are so screwed. That means boycotting products, that means calling them to register complaints. In short, it means getting off our collective asses and DOING something.
Until ALL of you folks begin to realize that we now live in a world where FACTS AND TRUTH NO LONGER MATTER, we are going to continue to lose.
Did he cry????
Bye Bye
I will be glad when others here realize that we have already crossed the point of no return. We are no longer a nation of free people, we are a nation under the rule of tyrants. These tyrants are the leaders in BOTH parties, they don’t “cave” to the democrats, the SERVE with the democrats. Both have but one objective which they have alost finished, the total enslavement of the American worker and all we can produce in order to give it to other fellow socialists around the world. Sad thing is all will continue to whine but work and pay tribute to our yrant rulers.
Behold, the beast!

Every effin’ year that Muslim Islamic Marxist Kenyan pulls this same horseh*t. ... “we will all miss Christmas...blah blah blah.” When are those idiots going to realize this is classic Alinsky and tell the Kenyan to go straight to hell, leave for Christmas and let him sit there alone. They all make me sick and Boehner the boohooer needs to go. Get him out. Any man that cries as much as he does has no balls, PERIOD!
Obama hands out $20. to us and takes another 4 million dollar vacation. Something does not seem right.
From the Boehner statement:
“.....The Senate will join the House in immediately appointing conferees, with instructions to reach agreement in the weeks ahead on a full-year payroll tax extension.”
It does not sound like a cave to me. Once the Senate adjorned, it limited the options of what the House could do.
We need a new Speaker. One who is not politically tone deaf. One who can anticipate the maneuvers the other side is going to make and intercept them. One who can clearly articulate the conservative position in a way that the mind numbed public can understand.
Boehner’s not the guy.
Boehner just put the nail in his coffin..

Right thing to do. Repubs were getting killed publically on this issue. This is a war, and you win battle by battle. Don’t let Obama have the mantle of tax cutter. He is just the opposite. But Boehner and McConnell have got to do a better job. They should strategize better together. Should have not allowed this to get into a bad PR for the repubs.
well Republicans can still use this against Obama and use class warfare tactics. Democrats are trying to harm retiress and Social Security and medicare are in danger
middle class homeowners and people that want to refinance they will have to pay a big $5000 fee on their mortgage to pay fund other peoples social security. This tax is permanant and doesn’t go away. Obama and Dems are attacking the fragile housing market with more government.
polls say people are against de-funding social security.
also Obama doesn’t really want to create jobs like the Pipeline.
I’m beginning to think a third party has a shot.
