The fire that broke out in a Cairo library that houses thousands of rare documents raised concerns over the governments and the armys ability to protect historic sites at times of upheaval and drove several experts to warn of a possible intervention by foreign entities to preserve the heritage at risk.
Legal and archeological experts described failure to contain the fire that devoured large parts of the Scientific Complex in downtown Cairo and to rescue the priceless maps, manuscripts, and books kept inside as a disaster and warned that the possibility of similar acts of sabotage would make foreign intervention very likely.

Guarantied to make Taranto's Best of the Web.
Someone posted a thread on the the limits of interventionism. I think I found my limit, i.e. invading Egypt to defeat the modern day Tartars and save books.

Never, ever underestimate the ability of Islamists to destroy.
They hate all that is better than them and their religion.
Which means they hate everything.

“Mein Kampf” in Arabic is a muzzie bestseller to this day.
If they try to destroy the pyramids and Sphinx, it won’t be the first time, look it up.

Just remember, the final destruction of the Library at Alexandria was done at the hands of Muslim conquerors. According to legend, they burned the scrolls to heat water for bathing.

"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.
The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.
The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.
No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of sciencethe science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."

"They were just emulating their Nazi heroes. "Anything that might present the notion that there was 'good civilization' before Islam is to be frowned upon. There are armed guards at some sites in order to prevent the 'wrong' things from being unearthed; if they are, they might just be lost.

We are broke, our army is a spent force. The US needs time to replace worn equipment and expended ammunition. The loss of the ancient Egyptian artifacts would be a tragedy. But one that can be survived.
Any support in the Middle East is gone. Surrounded, outgunned and alone, Israel can only fight for survival. The Turks are preparing to invade Cyprus and Syria. Al Queda and the Muslim Brotherhood now control all of North Africa. The shattered Iraq we are abandoning will soon be overrun by Iran. And likely as not Iran will make the left hook and grab up Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in the process.
And who is going to stop them? Russia is falling apart. China is too far away. And to be honest do we want China or Russia taking over the Middle East? It might be preferable to Al Queda and the Muslim Brotherhood, but not by much.
Europe is gone, consumed by its own socialist welfare state. The US is the last redoubt of Western Civilization. A redoubt with too few troops on the wall and a total lack of leadership. We need to pick out next fight very carefully. Knocking down buildings that were ruins already isn't going to cut it.

Correct. As soon as the books are gone, just as the nazis, the cries will go out to burn people. zer0 and his minions have unleashed another coming of hades. Wonder if the coming of hades can be put back in the bottle and the cork secured?

"I believe Julius Caesar did the same thing in Alexandria..." Not really, Caesar had great respect for learning. What happened was in a battle to take the city a fleet of ships was burned and the fire spread to the library. The fire was not deliberately set. BTW the Library of Alexandria has burned a few times over the ages, mostly deliberately and mostly by Islam.

Our own civilization and Society is burning as we speak. Flash mobs, more than half of people on welfare of some sort. Our drive and pride is gone, our trust is God is empty.
It was our Christian mores that made us better and was the foundation of science. Now Atheists and other Godless men have convinced this nation that we need Change, and that Science is theirs. Well, look around you, has the change from the 50’s been an improvement?!
This Nation needs to Apologize to God and put Him back as head.

Translation: Burning churches and killing Copts, OK. But burning libraries and destroying antiquities, not OK.
No question that this is horrible, although it was also completely predictable, and not unexpected. But where’s the “foreign intervention” when the Copts, among most ancient Christian people in the world, are being murdered every day by Army thugs as well as Muslim Brothers?
Not newsworthy?
