Am sorry I missed this as it’s now 1:00 am here on the East coast. Extended Christmas here and too many work hours mingled between have kept me otherwise occupied.

Thanks for the rundown of events...I am going to check further to see if some re-runs are anywhere.

It is surrealistic. I am sure one of the DPRK internet sites will rerun it in the next day or so. I also heard an English voice on Pyongyang TV over during the live broadcast of the procession so they no doubt have a version for overseas consumption. Boy those people were all over themselves, particularly the female KPA soldiers, they looked like they were going to wet their pants on the spot! Mass chaos/grief (staged but impressive no less). Most people would cry up a storm if told at gunpoint that if you did not weep vigorously enough you might end up in a NK reeducation camp (which nobody ever exits, except as human organs to be recycled for transplants or studied by NK medical students.

I think I mentioned before I had seen many videos when Kims father died and was floored at the degree of grief they exhibited then. But then we do know it’s required or dastardly things will be done to them. Even so...imagining this many people so completely submissive to any authority would be hard enough to imagine..but this stuff just defies reason. No wonder their military is so large...I think more to keep the people in line then fight a war!

I still say some of this outpouring of emotion might be other than grief...just using the occasion to let off steam otherwise they’ve had to suck up...and the more the better. Getting that out of their system just might be more helpful then we might think...if they do rebel it would require clear thinking and few able to do so with years of pent up emotions.

I’m sure you-tube will have some of this funeral as well.

Just take Guyana/Jim Jones and multiply it by 1000 magnitudes.

That is North Korea.

A few have the common sense or the will to escape. This is just one more obligatory meeting they are forced by their local unit to turn out and support; their were reports some months back that they had practice "crying sessions" to get ready for the big day when Chia Pet kicked the bucket, so they could position the most vigorous and convincing weepers up in the front...it appears from the video this is precisely what they have done. They are also I am convinced, filming people crying at one event and then putting the videos into various parts of the parade to kind of reflect that at this intersection or that monument, certain people gathered and cried. But the sky looks different and it looks like a splice job. I doubt they could leave anything up to full live TV as possible mistakes would occur. They could then videotape crying in advance and make sure it had no errors, then add it into the live broadcast as appropriate. Actually, very amateruish in a way. The trained eye can see these oddities and contradictions.

Just watched NHK news who gave brief video of his son walking along side the casket...and a couple shots of the “mourners” which looked like what I had expected.

Hard to believe they had “practiced mourning”.. but would make perfect sense considering actors were also hired to display their talent. Golly! How can one even define this nonsense! and the great lengths they go to to retain this degree of power over the people.

I read an article about the Holocaust and the question was raised why if so few soldiers, and so many people, didn't they revolt against the them. Apparently one can be so humiliated and broken down that there simply isn't anything left to revolt. Of course fear does come into play as does many other “mental” issues....still an entire nation in N. Korea!

I remember well when I first began investigating the country and it's people....couldn't understand it then...and even now it remains difficult to wrap ones head around even with all the explanations of why this is so. P.S. Loved the fact it was snowing there! No bright lights to further the myth stories sure to come out...I suspect they'll invent something about a Snow Fairy or some such who carries Kim to neverland somewhere.

South Korean media (maybe TLR can give a read out on that later), also casts doubt on this TV fiasco. It said, I believe, that Pyongyang said it was live, but it appeared to be taped and they sent it some hours after the event (to be sure no embarrassments occurred or happened). It also had odd splicings of the famous crying and scenes that did not match. Like I said, those female soldiers are the WORST! Really this is deserving of a Saturday Night Live segment, the whole crying act and overacting. I am not surprised.

Well, one thing is for sure. It might require long underwear for the mourners:

but I somewhat doubt the Chia Pet needs that now.

Kim Jong un at the front of the limo on the right side, with who appears to be "Fishlips" (aka "General" Jang su taek) right behind him (probably with a Tokalev aimed at the Boy King's butt to make sure he toes the line). What a joke!!

About the snow today in Pyongyang and crappy weather? They will say that "even Heaven was so sad at the departure of Great General Comrade Kim Jong-il, the Pyongyang sky clouded over and the mood was somber, with snowflakes like cold tears falling upon the crestfallen but great Korean People.". Or some other such bullsh*t. No matter what the weather, the DPRK PR folks would have a myth-narrative all drafted up for it.

Geez, I guess I could even write the stuff, eh?

Another thing, a) if they say heaven is sad about his depature that means, uh oh, only one thing, and one other place he is going; and b) if they talk about heaven as atheists, philosophers can have a field day over that one.

Well it’s all for show, but I couldn’t help but look closer tat those in the crowd...if you look behind those in the front there isn’t that much grief, in fact one woman looked like she was trying hard not to rejoice!

Oddly few tears are actually seen and very few handkerchiefs....looks like they forgot the props. Lots of wailing but I didn’t see a tear....Also noted they were getting pretty wet from the snow.

I agree they likely spliced the video...after all it is propaganda and usually done. Additionally this is to be played worldwide so as you say “no mistakes” can be seen.

I hear the son is officially “ruler” now.

Oh, that SUCKED BIG TIME. Just watched it, caww

Al Jazeera Propaganda.

How dare they.

They did not question this phony, staged DPRK crying at all. They stated the People were obviously "grieving" as they said their goodbye, and presented it as fact. They also said they are saying goodbye to their "Beloved" leader. Bullllllllshit! Sez who? Al Jazeera gave no context at all to the North Korean Myth-Narrative Nation-State based on lie after lie, they create the faulty impression that the North Korean people are actually sad over this man's passing, when in fact it is a Hollywood set and just another day. Al Jazeera should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for somehow passing this off as "reality". Where is the journalism. I suspect CNN will take this tact, too.

Shameless.

Thanks for sharing.

LOL...you should write them a script and send it over in the balloons they send. Pretty good job there!

Yea, it was pretty poor reporting...but then consider the source..they do so with most reporting...never get things right but always thru the prism of their choosing. Perhaps sometime in the far future we'll hear the truth from the people of N. Korea, but I tend to think not much at all will change in their condition nor their country.

I expect high level DPRK defections over the next six months. And, it could be easily encouraged. (Of course, then we could get the whole story about the funeral and which parts were phony/staged). Every man has his price. Lots of seasoned, aged DPRK leaders I think are just not ready to follow a 27 year old kid who only knows basketball and violent PC games and who only has the position because he merely orginated as a spermatazoa from his father, the Dear Leader—nothing on merit at all.

Thank you for an American in Asia commentary.

We don’t hear such things here much, except for the propaganda.

American media is controlled. Like in the old Soviet Union. You have to listen to FR’s version of “Radio Free Europe”. Sorry it is just that way under Emperor Obama and the US MSM which covers for him seven ways to Sunday. Propaganda, pure and simple.

My SIL and nieces listen to and believe the crap. I have lost my best friend over the crap. People I have worked with are now sometimes Marxists/anarchists. Blacks speak to each other regularly, but not to Whites, and often ridicule them in restaurants (personal experience). Pelosi says “our (her) social ‘class’ has won. J-schools are gone.

Situational ethics is pervasive here. When cops (black) can pepper spray a naked man (White) and are not charged with murder (1st degree), the implication is obvious. A Holder test case?

Empty prisons built here (Illinois, Montana) are not going to stand empty. High speed rail will simply speed transport there.

As someone reminded me recently, the box cars in WWII were full. Jews reported like good citizens, only to be packed in like sardines. They did not rush the Nazi guards.

I lived across the street from some that escaped Germany. As a young person, it choked me up to see the identification tattoos from those who had been imprisoned. Our eyes would meet, and they would see I knew. Neither one of us would say a word, and this happened routinely. Succumbing to the degradation is simply beyond logic.

It will happen again. I believe it will happen here, even if we are told “all is well.” Many of us are targets and watch listed; of that I am convinced. Ahem...friends of mine indicate the gradual replacement of key personnel: 0bots and political climbers.

I was once called by a telemarketer in the 2004 election season who asked me about “one party rule.” When I pushed back, he laughed with ridicule and knowledge in his voice that sent chills through me. I heard from him once, and believe I could recognize his voice.

Just last week, for the first time, I saw a man walking through a parking lot, and next to me, looking in the back of cars. I could not tell if he was Mexican or a heavy Middle Eastern type. A month ago, by a Drug Mart that is not too far, I saw men in outright Saudi garb, complete with red-checkered head dresses, as though they were royalty.

“They’re here,”

Oh, and we already kill our infants/unborn. We don’t eat them, or grass, yet though.

With “skyrocketing” electric bills, we may yet look like N Korea at night.

0bama, Sunstein, Holder, etc. will smile.

Well, they likely learned all they needed from Eason Jordan - he was the master at ensuring access for propaganda.

Thanks to you and all of the knowledgeable FReepers who are giving us the background and deep-level overview of the NK-Oriental interactions.
