Hmm, do you have any idea what being made a general in NK means? Is it a promotion or something like that? Does it mean a hand in day-to-day operations in a country that is largely run by the military?

Jang has been running a day-to-day operation of NK gov. for some time. Now he has a direct authority to command troops since he made a full general. Previously, he did not have such an authority. It makes him more powerful.

I hope those birds all fly north and POOP all over the Chia Pet’s funeral cortage on Thursday in Pyongyang. Pigeons most welcome as well, too. How would State TV spin THAT!?

From Twitter poster Steve Herman of VOA

Since around the time Kim Jong Il allegedly died, the electricity supply has been cut completely in Pyongyang.

That does not make since because a) I have been able to get through [since last Tuesday or so] to a number of DPRK government offices, hotels and some western embassies and they seem to be operating on normal hours in North Korea; though difficult, lines are in fact open between Japan and North Korea b) some TV footage of Pyongyang at night does not necessarily show a decrease in electricity or lighting. I wonder what the credibility of this report is. Everyone is watching the propaganda on the TV nightly so at least they have electricity to run those operations as well, too.

The new calender holiday April 4 is probably the day for the celebration of Qing Ming Festival:

Qing Ming Festival is a day in which Chinese families head to the graveyard and clean the tombs of their ancestors. It is interesting because it helps us understand how traditional Chinese ideas about death survive in modern China despite Mao’s efforts to eliminate them.

http://seeingredinchina.com/2011/04/04/qing-ming-festival-and-traditional-chinese-ideas-about-death/

Do they honor this day in NK, or is this a new “old thing”? If the latter is correct then we should reread the Golden Bough.

Yes, I am watching both MBN and YTN live from South Korea, with the female announcer, Pyongyang Patty, (Comrade Ri) giving the voice over narration, about ready to faint with grief (feigned or otherwise). My it sure is cloudy and snowy up there in Pyongyang. I am so glad that it was crappy weather all day, and I hope to heaven the sun does NOT break through at all. That will deny them one more myth about their fallen leader. Fat Kim Junior was keeping a pretty good pace there alongside the hearse. Lets hope something funny or stupid or unplanned happens on live DPRK TV, but they probably have it on a five minute delay. Now a male announcer is getting emotional. And they also now have a female soldier, with lots of makeup on, in the front line standing out in the snow, and crying on and on about KJI. Good acting! 12:30 a.m. East Coast, 9:30 p.m. Pacific Time (Tuesday). I think South Korea does not want to give these people too much air time, so just shows the scenery when they drone on and talk over it with their in studio analysts. Very fascinating.

Thanks for the photo. I was wondering how many medals he would be wearing after only a couple of days on the job!

There was another thread saying where the weeding out of those deemed a threat to Kim Jong-un had begun 8 months ago by Kim Jong-il in anticipation of his death.

Regarding the Kim Jong il funeral live I am watching from North Korean TV relayed by S. Korean TV.

They have all the good North Korean actors and actresses up on the police barricade lines along the route, doing their best. These people are professionals. Then, if you look really close, going back three or four people deep into the crowd, they are rather motionless and emotionless, probably freezing out here in 28 degree weather, and look as if they have just been told for the 1,000th time to turn out for some public event. The eyes are dead. They do not love nor miss this despot. The front line people are just for show, crying up a storm for the cameras. I have seen some of these actresses and dancers before. One big phony Hollywood Set!! !! LOL Lets hope the roads get to slick with this snow and ice, for this pathetic, idolotrous parade to continue and one of the official cars goes into a ditch (no injuries of course), just hoping for a funny little shake up on this staged DPRK Pyongyang event.
