I confess as a kid, I once thought about hopping aboard a slow-moving train. But I can honestly say I never considered climbing aboard a coal car. And I was 14 at the time, not 25.
Yeesh.

"So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It's just that it will bankrupt them because theyre going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted." ~ Barack Hussein Obama.
Sadly, too late to save this nice couple from a horrible death.

You see people, this is why we should ban coal and use natural energy.

“Stay off the tracks. Forget it. Its a bum’s world for a bum. You’ll never be Emperor of the North Pole, kid. You had the juice, kid, but not the heart and they go together. You’re all gas and no feel, and nobody can teach you that, not even A-No.1. So stay off the train, she’ll throw you under for sure. Remember me for that. So long, kid.”

I don’t get this story at all. Riding in a coal car would be messy as heck. And are you sleeping in it to the point where you don’t notice the darn thing (or others around you) is being unloaded?

Some plants unload coal cars by clamping them to a section of track that then roates the car upside down, but I guess it didn’t make any difference. They were killed in any event.

I can’t imagine being buried under a ton of stuff from a coal train.
Although I can envision being buried under a ton of discs from Coltrane.

I had fears of something like that happening to me when I was thinking about hopping on the slow moving train (which didn’t seem nearly as slow when I got close to it). Looking back, my fear may well have saved my life that day.

Considering an automatic train car loader drops 100 tons in a car in a few seconds, they probably were crushed.
Not to mention when the coal car is rotary dumped into a hopper at the power station.
Unlikely they were found until some unlucky worker had to go clean out a plugged up coal feeder.

Sadly, too late to save this nice couple from a horrible deathHow do you know they were a "nice couple?" For a start they were stealing a ride from CSX. I'd go with "pair of idiots" rather than "nice couple."
I suppose it isn't quite as stupid as the moron who managed to get himself and his girfriend eaten by bears in Alaska a few years ago, but on second thought maybe it is. What did they think was going to happen to the coal they were riding on?

FTA:
“Sometime over the weekend the couple were killed when their train stopped at a local Florida power plant. When the railcars arrive, they open from the bottom, releasing their cargo several stories below into a waiting truck. As the AP reports, officials at the plant are not sure if the couple was sitting on top of the coal when another load dropped, or if they were in a railcar that was dropping its payload.”
