Radio host Michael Savage offers Gingrich $1 million to drop out of GOP race
The Hill ^ | 12/12/2011 | Jonathan Easley

Posted on 12/12/2011 2:32:33 PM PST by merrylu

Conservative radio host Michael Savage is offering Republican presidential frontrunner Newt Gingrich $1 million if he drops out of the GOP race within the next 72 hours, according to a message on his website.

“Newt Gingrich is unelectable. Mitt Romney is the only candidate with a chance of defeating Barack Obama, and there is nothing more important than that for the future health, safety, and security of the United States of America,” the statement read. “Therefore I am offering Newt Gingrich one million dollars to drop out of the presidential race for the sake of the nation.”

Savage conceded that Romney is “not as strong a conservative as many would like him to be,” but listed the reasons why he thinks Gingrich is a threat to Republicans.

Some have argued that Gingrich’s prowess as a debater would pit him well against President Obama during the election, but Savage said that regardless of how well he does, he will “come off badly compared to Obama and look like nothing more than what he is: a fat, old, white man.”

“If Newt Gingrich really loves this country as much as he says he does, if he really wants what is best for America, he will set his ego aside, call me, and accept my offer,” the statement said. “His continued candidacy spells nothing but ruin for conservatives, Republicans and all true American patriots. One million dollars in exchange for preserving the nation, Newt. I say take the money and don’t run.”

“Savage is right and wrong. He is right about Gingrich...but wrong about Romney.

We are screwed with either one of these two as the nominee. I don’t like Romney...he’s a democrat...and I don’t like Gingrich...he’s a RINO in sheep’s clothing. His positions have shifted back to the right...strangely enough...like Romney.

I will vote for Gingrich...but the MSM will tear him apart...and the average voter out there who doesn’t know his butt from a hole in the ground will take their cues from the MSM and the $1 Billion in negative adds that will run. Neither one can win.”

Sums up my current opinion, unfortunately.

First, front runner Rick Perry took himself down with some idiotic comments in a debate.

Next, Herman Cain took the reigns as the front runner and the GOP elite planted accusations and whispers that Herman Cain had numerous extramarital affairs. Down Cain fell.

Now Newt Gingrich is the front runner and the GOP elite can not attack with rumors of affairs. Instead, they use the media members from the right(Glenn Back and Michael Savage) to attack Newt and try to bring him down.

It is very obvious that the entire media and the GOP elite want Mitt Romney to win the GOP nomination for the presidency. Are voters this stupid?

“Why does Mark Levin hate Savage’s guts?”

Savage mercilessly attacks all other right wing talkers then wonders why no one comes to his defense. I predict that one day Savage and Beck will have ajoining padded cells.

Savage is unhinged, but at least he has a definitive opinion. All the other hosts on radio say just enough to be perfectly ambiguous, so they don't offend their audience. It makes for a wise radio policy, but not a very illuminating political discussion.

Looks like the left is having a field day laughing at us as we eat our own. Some who listen to Rush think that by advising Romney to move further to the right of Gingrich, Rush too believes that with a millon pounds of baggage, untelegenic, and incendiary, Gingrich would be soundly beaten by Obama.

To be sure this is a pathetic bench. But we must find a candidate who will beat Obama otherwise with one or two more SC appointments and a slew of federal judegships, Obama will have steered the nation to a point of no return. If Gingrich is unelectable (as I and many others do) we must settle for the next electable candidate (prefer Perry, and Romney if he is electable and is the only remaining choice)! This is not an election anyone of us can sit out.

Michael Savage may not be a liberal, but he’s definitely got some sort of mental disorder.

“I’ve always thought Savage is an asshole, but he’s more anti-American than even Obama if he thinks this is how our political system is supposed to work.”

Michael Weiner (Savage) IS a self-serving A$$HOLE! With him, it’s all about a buck!

Savage rocks. Been listening since 1996. If you don’t like him, then don’t listen. His bet with Newt is silly and he knows it. The goal is to defeat Jihadism and I think both Newt and Mitt can get John Bolton to secure victory. Sooner the better.

I agree to a certain extent that Newt has a hateability factor that is quite high in the American general public. He’s in the same boat as Nancy Pelosi.

Even if elected, it is very possible Newt will blow up in everyone’s face. Many people will be gloating bigtime “told ya so” once impeachment for Newt is in full swing.

Newt is a high risk choice. Some of the things he says are just......strange.

I dont care if he splurged on a trip for his wife- he is 68 and the thought of re-dedicated almost the remainder of their lives to public service deserves a vacation before you start

I agree. My experience with Savage is limited to the few bits I’ve heard on the net and clips I’ve seen on youtube, but that was enough for me. I don’t begrudge him his success or those who enjoy him. But as for me, I’ll pass.

None of these people seemed to have a problem with the fat white haired old guy last time around. He was ‘electible’.

“The only reason Savage is enamored with Romney is because, if I remember correctly, he and Romney had dinner together and talked some things out.

I’ve come to realize that Savage loves people who stroke his ego and make him feel important. People call in to his show and slather him with praise, he gets giddy and gives out a free book.”

I completely agree with you Cato in PA-if Romney was out in san franc and Savage asked him to dinner and Romney couldn’t make it he would be dead to Savage, I think the same thing happened with Bachmann something similarly trivial and now he can’t remember her name (ya right) and is not kind in his comments about her

When Mitt ran for Senate against Kennedy he actually ran to the left of Kennedy.

When Scott Brown was running for Senate (and I supported him) many here thought he might be presidential material. I said at that time what I believe today...that I could never support for President anyone who could win a statewide election in Massachusetts.

Mitt is an absolute non-starter for me. Mitt would cause a third party.
