Newt Gingrich's14-point lead over Mitt Romney among likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers is grounded in large part in support from Tea Party and evangelical voters, who have a far more positive view of Gingrich than they do Romney, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.
Poll: Gingrich takes double-digit lead over Romney in Iowa
Gingrich wins the support of 34 percent of white evangelicals expected to attend the Republican caucuses on January 3. That's higher than the 31 percent of likely caucus-goers who support Gingrich overall, and far outpaces Romney, who wins the support of just 10 percent of white evangelical caucus-goers. (Ron Paul, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann also have more support from this group than Romney.)
Gingrich's favorable rating among white evangelical likely caucus-goers is 60 percent - compared to just 31 percent for Romney. Only 18 percent hold an unfavorable view of Gingrich, compared to 43 percent for Romney.
White evangelicals see Gingrich as more prepared to be president than Romney (48 percent to 12 percent), better to handle an international crisis (48 percent to 9 percent), better to handle the economy (22 percent to 11 percent) and having the best chance to beat President Obama next November (37 percent to 24 percent). The electability factor has been central to Romney's argument to conservative voters that they should put aside their misgivings and cast their ballots for him.
The findings suggest that the former House speaker is not being negatively judged by social conservative voters for his personal life, which includes three marriages and the acknowledgement of an extramarital affair......

My God...Newt? No, sad to say, I’d vote even Romney before Newt. Newt will most assuredly lose to Obama. He carries a capacity for sticking his foot in it greater than any other candidate in history, barring maybe Biden.
Dede? Attacking Paul Ryan? Couch surfing with the Pelosi hag? Freddie Mac? Oh h*ll no. I’m sticking with Bachman, whether I think she can win or not. If she drops out, then Paul, if it’s down to Newt and Willard, I’ll vote Willard.

Please add me to your ping list.....thanks!
Is there a “Ugh, dammit, gonna have to vote for Newt” list?
***Newt could be our leader to dismantle the Washington Bureaucracy.***
His critics continue to claim he is a ‘Big Government’ advocate. They don’t seem to accept that in order to dismantle the monster - one has to understand it. Abolish those agencies which are unConstitutional and fix the departments which are laden with fraud, waste and abuse.
Enforce the laws which are the responsibility of the Federal Government and cede the rest to the States.
Only a strict Constitutionalist with hands on experience inside the boondoggle is capable of doing the job. Others need not apply.
Evangelicals are coming out in force to support Newt in SC too. Huge following. Great news!!!!! this has to be shocking to the MSM and Rove.
no more newt pics. cannot take it.
“Newt could be our leader to dismantle the Washington Bureaucracy. This is exciting.”
ROFLMAO
Shhhh. Now get yourself back to the herd with the good little Republican sheep and hush up!
One of the best ways to chock off a new effort, is to convince folks you’re on their side when you aren’t.
We blame the Dems for demonizing the Tea Party, but we’re not nearly as quick to take the liberal Republicans to task for telling the Tea Party they are on their side, when they clearly aren’t.
Some folks told the Tea Party, that John McCain was their best buddy. Some folks who did this, told the Tea Party they were their best friend, when telling them about McCain made it crystal clear they weren’t.
Now here comes Newt. We’ve seen it before countless times. Daddy Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain, Schwarzenegger... the list is long. While a lot of folks will see through a lot of this, some folks like myself will be fooled into buying off on someone and hoping once in a while.
Generally there are just enough people buying off, to defeat Conservatism. I sure hate playing into that, but there are times when I blow it too.
Conservatism is a great outlook. Too bad it is so easily defeated by people who don’t understand what it is, and don’t really give a damn as long as they are voting straight (R).
As I said, some folks will make mistakes once in a while, and others make a lifetime of it. Newt is one of them.

Did they eliminate any programs? I don't think they did. Instead, block grants were given to the states for the implementation of existing programs.
I've got reservations about Newt because he believes in government "doing things"...and believes he can manage them better.
How's that for some bullroar for ya??? (smirk)
Very insightful summation D-1... very insightful!!!
I like Gingrich.
The Romneyites and the Dems are throwing all kinds of garbage at him now.
That viper Peter King R-NY and Coburn R-OK attacked Gingirch vicously over the last two days - They are Romneys’ buttonmen.
Meanwhile, I sure hope you have a clear glass navel. (grin)
Not sure what you are trying to say.
Sometimes I’m kind of obtuse when people aren’t talking history, guns, woodworking, etc.
I agree. I’m far too cryptic for you to try to talk to me. sorry. (grown)
More like “esoteric” than cryptic.
