Newt Gingrich's14-point lead over Mitt Romney among likely Iowa Republican caucus-goers is grounded in large part in support from Tea Party and evangelical voters, who have a far more positive view of Gingrich than they do Romney, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.
Poll: Gingrich takes double-digit lead over Romney in Iowa
Gingrich wins the support of 34 percent of white evangelicals expected to attend the Republican caucuses on January 3. That's higher than the 31 percent of likely caucus-goers who support Gingrich overall, and far outpaces Romney, who wins the support of just 10 percent of white evangelical caucus-goers. (Ron Paul, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann also have more support from this group than Romney.)
Gingrich's favorable rating among white evangelical likely caucus-goers is 60 percent - compared to just 31 percent for Romney. Only 18 percent hold an unfavorable view of Gingrich, compared to 43 percent for Romney.
White evangelicals see Gingrich as more prepared to be president than Romney (48 percent to 12 percent), better to handle an international crisis (48 percent to 9 percent), better to handle the economy (22 percent to 11 percent) and having the best chance to beat President Obama next November (37 percent to 24 percent). The electability factor has been central to Romney's argument to conservative voters that they should put aside their misgivings and cast their ballots for him.
The findings suggest that the former House speaker is not being negatively judged by social conservative voters for his personal life, which includes three marriages and the acknowledgement of an extramarital affair......

Depends, if you voted for them and supported them, if you did tell everyone, otherwise, why bring up democraps.
In a race between Obama and Gingrich, Obama will be the family values candidate.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Sadly, the scenario is being worked even as we speak.
please add me to your ping list, Titan. ty
Seriously? You may like Newt but he is no way going to even try to manhandle Washingtons bureaucracy
Eeverybody must git stoned!!! Remember that???
The thing I'm having trouble understanding about this article is how Tea Party enthusiasts are enthused with the ultimate Washington Insider, and worse yet, a big government "CONservative!" A man who inCONsistently slides from gunnel to gunnel like one of the loosest cannons in naval history!!!
Fear and panic is keeping them from supporting at least two other righteous conservatives still in the hunt. What a serious shame!!!
It's just like the shameful end of the most historic recall election in California's history which gave us a worse governor than Gray Davis! History, repeating it'self to the detriment of the whole nation this time. Breathtaking!!!
These damned RINO's are NOT authentic conservatives, yet we let our fears overcome our better judgement and jump on a really dumb bandwagon!!!
Ok, flame away! I haven't been properly roasted for my consistent opinions for quite awhile now. So please don't put me on the Gingrinch Ping list for goodness sake!!!
Seems like were are slowly but surely being led to believe that Mitt or Newt are our only choices. Both are less then desirable, but we are being led to believe they are our only choices. This happened in our last election when we were stuck with McCain.
Newt believes in government...and the bureaucracy.
He is confident that he can run it "better".
I doubt we'll see much in the way of government shrinkage in a Gingrich administration.
He's certainly made an effort for it. Newt's whole "I found Jesus" story is continually and exclusively used by his campaign to sway Evangelical protestant voters despite the fact he was a protestant and became Catholic. He never bothers appearing at religious events with his "fellow" Catholics in Iowa even though there are nearly as many Catholic voters as evangelicals there. Apparently he feels he is entitled to our votes by default simply because he calls himself a Catholic.
Can you say A-R-R-O-G-A-N-T? ;-)
so now we know the Tea Party people and the Evangelicals are just a bunch of ignorant RINOs(sarcasm off)
“I doubt we’ll see much in the way of government shrinkage in a Gingrich administration. “
Sure he will. He is the only candidate that has a record of eliminating a federal program. Remember? The republicans reformed welfare. Democrats cried that it would create havoc and hurt people. Ended up to be a win win for everyone.
Newt can do that again, don’t you think?
Some of the comments are about as nasty as this guy's irrational hatred:
He’s been to confession.
Exactly.
Newt is being pushed to knock the other candidates out of the race. Once that objective is accomplished, conservatives will be forced to choose between Newt and Romney, and Romney will win that match up.
Hey Titan!
Can you add me to your Newt ping list please! Thanks so much!
Best Regards
New tagline ...
Hi Sierra,
No flaming here. I understand your frustration. I consider myself a Tea Party sympathizer (haven’t attended any rallies). I think this entire primary season can be characterized as being schizophrenic for us. I hate the RINO’s as much as you do and yet I admit: I’m afraid of another 4 years of Obama.
And so I find myself hopping from one foot to the next. Is Gingrich everything I want? No. Do I think the United States can limp along under a Gingrich presidency? Yes. Will it limp along long enough for someone better to come along? Maybe. Will the United States survive another 4 years of Obama? No. Am I going to sit home on election day and clean my firearms while watching election returns and preparing for the worst? Maybe.
I remember that recall very well and I got taken in by Schwarzenegger and I will go to my grave regretting that vote. Do I want to make that same mistake? No. In the end, so many questions and doubts. Lots of uncertainty out there.
Best Regards
“...why the distinction of white?”
Much less in IA where the non-white population is about 4%.
...if you do it right. Hope it's televised.
LOL...SOT
