...he was apparently too engrossed in a game of Zynga's "Words With Friends" to power down his iPad... The incident caused a one-hour delay in the flight...
Now if he had been playing Skyrim on the other hand...
What a jerk. I sometimes take the battery out of my phone before going through security so I don’t get in trouble because I forgot.
Actually, Mythbusters did a pretty good episode on this. No, there's no particular evidence that cell phones or other devices will interfere with the flight controls or instruments on airplanes. HOWEVER... Given a.) the litigious nature of the world, and b.) it is virtually impossible to fully test all of the possible combinations of avionics and consumer electronics that are available. Add to that that new devices and new avionics are being added to the roster on an almost weekly basis. SO: there is no practical way that the FAA or the airline industry can positively ~certify~ that x device is safe on all airplanes, even though it probably is perfectly safe, and so they have little choice but to make these rules about using the devices during key periods of the flight like take-off and landing. Makes sense, given the legal climate.
the best reason for the policy is b/c it got Awec Bawdwin booted off the flight.....
Fat,arrogant,wife beater,Hollywood liberal, 1%er attacks the 99%.
Here's a thought:
How about those couple of hundred people sue the big Baldwin Baby. Spread his wealth!
Nothing sexist going on here dude. The flight attendant was a female. Case closed.
Baldwin,,,,Baldwin,,,,,sayyyyyy ain’t that the feller what left the country when W got elected? I reckon it is.

The reality is that easily 10% of phones are on at those times (it’s easy to forget) and that if there was a shred of evidence that the highly engineered avionics systems (which reside in small area bristling with other avionics) would be affected, it would be illegal to even bring electronics on board.
This is an airline rule, not FAA regulation. They could justify it based on passenger attention being required for potential emergency response, but then they’d have to ban sleeping and reading.
“...They booted Alec Baldwin for playing a game? I would have booted him for being a horses ass....”
I would have booted Alec off the plane after it had reached its cruising altitude.
Air Marshalls....Alec Baldwin, pitching a tantrum...escorted off the plane...
Had I been there, I would LAUGHED MY ASS OFF at him, loudly and cheerfully. I would even POINT at him while laughing (yeah, I’m that crass...unashamedly so when it comes to laughing at libtards).
He is, after all, one of those instantly recognizable lefty douchebag TV/movie personalities.
one time ping for new developments
I know it’s a trivial and stupid “Hollywood” story, except that it did inconvenience a couple of hundred fellow citizens with Baldwin’s “don’t you know who I am” tantrum.
I figured there was more to the story, and that there was probably some serious and inappropriate confrontation with the flight attendant, etc., for him to get kicked off the plane.
Sure enough, AA has taken the remarkable step of providing some of the crew’s side of the story.....
and it is UGLY.....
I knew he was a schmuck, but gads!
This sounds like a deliberate scheme to promote whatever game this was he was playing.
Agreed!
