Newt spoke to a standing room only crowd of over 400 people last night at the Polk County GOP dinner in Johnston, Iowa. According to Kevin Hall from The Iowa Republican, Newt hit a homerun with the capacity crowd. Because of Newt's solutions-oriented campaign and optimistic vision for America, Hall notes that "Republicans are flocking to Gingrich in droves."

But seriously, we’re not talking about his salvation. We’re talking about his fitness for the presidency of the United States.
And, the fact is, there is a real disconnect between his paeans to God-given rights and his recently-stated immoral “implantation” position on abortion, and his support for things like immoral, unconstitutional “fetal pain” legislation.
In other words, he’s still playing you, just like he always has.
MNJohnnie! How you doing? Haven’t seen you around for a while...
How’s that suicide watch coming along...? You, Fred, and org.whodat, hanging in there?
I don’t get it.
I don’t get it.
I’d vote for one.
Just as an aside, I have skeletons in my closet, grinning skeletons.
Who I was in my past isn’t who I am now, I am very far from perfect.
Sorry...I meant to send it to ugh.whodat.
Ah.
No problem.
What I recall about the prevailing sentiment here in 2008 regarding McCain was that he was better than the alternative (how true!), but that no one was under the illusion he was a conservative dream candidate. I think most of us will support the GOP nominee, with the understanding that defeating Obama is necessary for the survival of our republic. I, for one, am leaning toward Newt, and praying we get the conservative firebrand of the 80’s and 90’s, because I believe he is the most conservative candidate who can win, and who would know how to use the mechanics of government to steer the ship to the right.
I like Santorum, too, but in the polls he’s only 3 points ahead of me . . . and I’m not running.
Ha!I didn’t think you could.
I see NEWT as a hollow man, I also see his ability which is most crafty and cunning, that is, he uses good words and fair speeches in order to deceive the minds of his audience.
NEWT has a long history of supporting liberal ideals, while saying he is conservative, don't be fooled into thinking this tiger has changed his stripes.
BEWARE the NEWT!
“In other words, hes still playing you, just like he always has.”
Gee, you’re not giving me too much credit there. ;-)
Trust me... there were times in the past when I was quite upset with Speaker Gingrich. I’m also aware that, should he be chosen, there will most assuredly be times in the future where I will disagree with him as well.
I am very aware of his mistakes and their context. Please understand that I STILL don’t know if he is the candidate or not. I (and I’m SURE that I’m not alone) have putting in a fair amount of prayer about this election...and about the the entire cultural/political direction of this nation. I also KNOW that God will answer those prayers.
I am sometimes bewildered by all this talk about perfect candidates. We will never match the first candidate, Washington, and even he was catching hell by the end of his first term. Hoover was the first candidate in 1928. He won big. Wilkie was the perfect candidate in 1940, with all the charm of FDR and that third-term thing hanging around FDR’s neck—that and the depression. Then came the fall of France, and it became clear to everyone that we were back to 1916 and suddenly, advantage to Roosevelt. Dewey to be the right guy in 1948, bus wasn’t because the farmers of the Middle West remembered what had happened to farm prices after WWI and wanted the protection that Truman offered them. Ike was perfect. Nixon seemed to be the perfect candidate in 1960. Barry —well Barry was buried by Camelot, but also because he wasn’t a great candidate.
But why rehearse the obvious. You go to war with the candidate you have. Only, I guess, you need to have leaders who have clear goals. But —as the Bible says—put not your faith in princes, and there is that thing called the fog of war. Politics is a messy business and the men in power never seem to handle their jobs better than the rest of us do. Maybe like baseball, where perfection is batting over .300.
Yeah...me too. :-)
But what bothers me about Newt is brought out in your post.
Too many people that know him don't like him very much.
The reason for that is becoming more clear. He is good in a debate, he is a smooth talker, but he is absolutely unprincipled and self absorbed. Newt is showing how he is arrogant and narcissistic by all of those other sit downs on TV. Newt has a huge ego and that will make him a disaster. He may be the only person who could make Obama a sympathetic character. I see no humility in Newt. Someone should at least sit him down and tell him to tone the arrogance back. If they don't, or he won't listen, we will be doomed to 4 more years of Obama.
I don't care about polls and "electability." With Cain now out, It's just Santorum and MB, and I don't trust her because I think she made a deal with Romney a long time ago to help stop Palin.
So, it's pretty much Santorum, the last Conservative still standing, with far fewer RINO warts than the Newt.
Oh, get over yourself, newbie
My problem with Mitt Romney is I’m not quite sure he wants the job. After interviewing 100’s of potential employees, I usual hire not just the ones who seem competent, but also the ones who act as if the really want the position.
I know there is a fine line between acting “presidential” without pulling out a Howard Dean moment, but Mitt please show a litte passion. Your not just changing your oil here, your applying for the most powerful job in the world.
