Glenn Beck Smears Ron Paul With Half-Truths About Paul's Earmarks.

Glenn Beck Smears Ron Paul With Half-Truths About Paul's Earmarks.

Today on his radio show Glenn Beck and his staff declared that Ron Paul is the "earmark king", and labeled Paul a hypocrit. Beck correctly stated that Paul adds many earmarks to spending bills, and then votes against the spending bills. What Beck left out (either by deceit or by ignorance) is that earmarks do not increase the size of a budget. The money allocated for a budget is set by the Appropriations Committee prior to any allocation or earmark. All money not allocated or earmarked is not deleted from the budget, but rather is turned over the the executive branch to spend as it sees fit.

According to Wikipedia [re. Earmark], "Scott Frisch and Sean Kelly point out that directing money to particular purposes is a core constitutional function of Congress. If Congress does not make a specific allocation, the task falls to the executive branch; there is no guarantee that the allocation made by executive agencies will be superior to Congress's. Presidents and executive officials can use the allocation of spending to reward friends and punish enemies." They also warned the "Tea Party's Anti-Earmark Crusade Gives More Power to President Obama".

Those are important points. Unallocated money has no transparency, and therefore can be used by the President to reward friends and punish enemies, without public scrutiny. Therefore, by earmarking as much as he can, Ron Paul is increasing the transparency of government spending. Until the Congress passes a law that requires all unallocated money to be deleted from the budget and returned to the Treasury, Congressman Paul is doing all he can do to increase the transparency of federal expenditures.

Glenn Beck is constantly preaching to us about the importance of (honorable) character. Maybe Beck should practice what he preaches.

Ron Paul: Isn’t it true that the FED can buy debt of other nations?...under the Monetary Control Act of 1980...is that not permissable?

Ben Bernanke: Yes, that’s true but we have no plans whatsoever to be involved in any foreign bailouts or anything of that sort.

NOTICE Barney Frank’s follow up and Ron Paul’s facial expression...not to mention Ron Paul’s allegations before his question to Bernanke...that triggered Frank’s closure on this political theater.

I wasn’t aware this was an anti-Paul website. In fact, FR has long been recognized as a conservative web site. Paul is a true conservative.

Not. Ron Paul is a fiscal conservative but in fact, he is a libertarian.

With all of your name calling about half truths making people liars, I'd be careful about your own half truths/lies.

You use Wikipedia as a source? That alone makes anything you present questionable.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) was one of only four House Republicans to break rank from the party and request earmarks despite a Republican Conference earmark moratorium. Paul sent 41 earmark requests totaling $157,093,544 for the 2011 Fiscal Year. His largest single request was $19,500,000 for a naval training ship at the Texas Maritime Academy in Galveston, followed by a $18,126,000 to provide maintenance on the Matagorda Ship Channel.

For Fiscal Year 2010, Paul requested 54 total earmarks, adding up to $398,460,640 in pork that the former presidential candidate sought to bring home to his district. These requests were made prior to the House Republican Conference’s voluntary ban on filing earmarks.

Paul’s largest request in 2010 was $51.5 million in federal money to be spent on “Reconstruction of Bluewater Highway Hurricane Evacuation Route Between Brazoria and Galveston Counties in Texas.” He requested another $50 million to be directed to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and $46 million for deepening the Texas City channel. The majority of Paul’s requests were for projects related to various ports and channels, though other sectors of his district also received attention, such as $20 million for a hospital in Chambers County. Even smaller projects received attention from the libertarian representative, such as $2.5 million requested “to redevelop historic downtown area and to purchase trash cans, bike racks and decorative street lighting” in Baytown.

Is not an earmark simply a means of insuring money goes where it is intended to go? And is it not a transparent means of doing that? I am having a hard time understand what the problem is with earmarks. Perhaps someone could explain it to me.

Pat Gray has a long history of hating Ron Paul. Why I don't know, but he and Ed Hendi used to rip Paul just about everyday on the air here in Houston before Pat Gray left to join Glenn Beck.

Corrupt is going to Washington D.C. a man of modest means and becoming a multi millionaire while serving in Congress. How many times have we seen that happen? How to you think that happens? Ron Paul, (a practicing doctor) after 30 years in Congress is still a man of modest means. Corrupt is the one thing Ron Paul isn’t.

Earmarks are probably as old as the Republic. And the problem is that many of them are simply wasteful bribes. it's one reason the country is bankrupt.

Let's say that you and I are congressmen. Your district really does need a new one million dollar bridge. That bridge would be good for your district, and a benefit to the country as a whole.

Wait a minute, says I. If your district gets money, I want my district to get money too. Let's see, how about a one million dollar museum to celebrate the lima bean?

You support my museum and I'll support your bridge. They're both earmarks, and one million dollars of taxpayer money has just been wasted on a lima bean museum.

“Ron Paul will not be the nominee.”

No, he’ll go third party and sink us all, assuming Trump doesn’t beat him to it.

“Rather it is the way earmarks are horse-traded for votes.”

Even slimier: Throwing earmarks on bills you know will pass and voting “nay” to look cool for your cult the way Cut and Run Paul does.

Not worried about Paul running 3rd party. There are few people more against 3rd party's than me, but Paul would take more votes from Obama than he would the GOP. Ron Paul voters claiming to be Republican primary voters are lying. They are like cultists, by and large they are NOT going to vote our eventual nominee (which won't be Paul).

I remember the paulbots of 2008. Most voted for Obama. The ones that actually understood what Paul stood for voted Libertarian. When Paul leaves the GOP, it will be no loss. I will be thrilled to see that kook gone.

Of the GOP presidential candidates, only Ron Paul has the integrity and balls to take on the Federal Reserve.
