Top Ten Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time by Ben Shapiro
Its been almost two years since I posted at Big Hollywood regarding the Top 10 Most Overrated Directors of All Time. Ive had a chance to reflect and think about the crimes I committed in that post. And, to paraphrase Mr. Eko from the greatest TV show of all time, Lost, I ask no forgiveness because I have committed no sin except leaving Spike Lee and Tim Burton off the list, that is.
So, because you all enjoyed that list so much, and because I apparently have a death wish, its time for another: The Top 10 Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time.
Unlike last time, I will claim that these are objective facts, not subjective opinions, so that all my critics may have full liberty to attack me (To those same critics who claimed last time that I phrased my opinions in an objective manner, this is called being facetious. That means Im kidding. Also, seriously? That was your criticism?).

#6 is absurd.
DeNiro may have quit long ago and sold out to the Focker franchise but:
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
Godfather
Among many others, permanently exempt him from this list.
Ditto’s Bender!
Dittos!
The stars, the so-called actors, those who get the big bux, are paid well to be themselves or the single character they play. That’s who, in every case, the idiot film-goers pay to see.
The real actors are the performers who play fill-in roles.
Want to spot a real actor in a starring or supporting position? Look for an actor who you simply do not recognize for the first 10 or 30 minutes of the film. Exclude those who are wearing a costume in the role. Only part of the reason you don’t recognize them is because of their make-up.
Two who come to mind are Cloris Leachman and Rod Steiger. There are others.
Migraine, your’s is a better list! I agree with every selection.
Ben Affleck.
Nuff said.
Conservative actors and actress - like Jon Cryer and Bo Derrick.
To few nowadays, not like when John Wayne, Bob Hope or Ron Reagan was alive.
86 posts and no one has mentioned Nicolas Cage? Wow!! :-)
DeNiro in “Awakenings” was simply amazing acting
How anyone can call him overrated must be smoking some pretty potent stuff
Good list. I’m glad someone finally pointed out just how breathtakingly bad Natalie Portman is. (Oh, Anikin, let’s go home and have our baby on Naboo”)
Homely. One-note. Self-congratulating. People seem to think that she's a great actress simply because SHE thinks she's a great actress.
I haven't seen any of her films in years and life has been wonderful without her.
Adam Sandler (#1)
And Brad Pitt can be more than 'good'. When I do watch his films I don't see 'Brad Pitt'.
But De Niro?? Nope, have to disagree. In his films he *is* the character, not 'Bobby'. Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The Godfather II, Cape Fear, Goodfellas and then in Jackie Brown - he *is* a complete moron. So no, De Niro (aka DeNiro) he is a 'Great Actor' of today.
But most 'actors' today are waaaay overrated and do suck. But they're 'Stars', go figure.
And I disagree with the article listing Kate Hepburn. Bringing Up Baby, Holiday, The Philadelphia Story - all great performances. It's her latter years in the 50's where IMO she 'phoned it in'. That's also about when her hands started to shake from Parkinson's. A coincidence?
They ALL suck, but I’m surprised that Rob Schneider and Nickolas Cage didn’t get more mentions.
I was just getting ready to post the all time no talent champion bad actor-Nicholas Cage.
1. James Dean
He sounds like he is reading his lines on a fourth grade level. Painful.
Why do they always stop at top “TEN?” Why not the top ONE HUNDRED?
Since I’ve only seen three movies in the past five years- insufficient data.
Regardless of how people feel about Shapiro’s picks (and on a few them he’s totally out to lunch), the mark of a good actor is how well he or she can play different roles and make you forget the last one. A really good actor can play a good guy and a bad guy equally well. Nicholson has done quite a few non Jack Nicholson roles (About Schmidt, The Crossing Guard, the Pledge) where he doens’t play Jack Nicholson. I think Shapiro is a tad wet behind the ears.
