A last-ditch drive ends in disappointment for Penn State, which loses to Nebraska, 17-14. Not having any timeouts crippled the offense, which completed two passes short of a first down, including one with seconds left, but couldn't stop the clock.
This is a different Saturday in State College. Immediately after McGloin's final pass fell incomplete, the Penn State crowd cheered the team's effort: the cheering grew to a roar as the two teams again met a midfield, such as they did right before the game.
Again, as occurred several times during the game, there were chants of "We love JoePa." Interviewed after the game, interim coach Tom Bradley said that what Penn State has gone through over the last week is "unprecedented in the history of college sports."

Why was he relieved of his duties?

You are right. He didn’t go to the police and anyone saying that he did is a liar. They immediately went in to coverup mode.
Not blaming the players, but the innocent have always paid for others’ sins, and any injustice that might be done to the players pales in comparison to the injustice done to those kids.
Let them transfer out of Penn State, without having to take a year off.
Your right I am wasting my time. However Penn state is more then just football and theres no reason to drag everyone down for the sins of a few.
The Penn State Politburo is corrupt and has been looking to get rid of him for years. They were (and still are, no doubt) attempting to save face by firing two figureheads.
He was also caught in a local high school gym by the school’s wrestling coach. Sandusky was lying down on a mat and hugging a boy face to face. Sandusky said he was just practicing some moves with the boy.
The coach, disturbed by what he saw, reported the incident to the school authorities, who in turn notified state authorities.

I like the freeper who said that this whole story and people’s reactions to it on Free Republic constitute a ‘rorschach’ test of where people stand regarding morality.
Maybe if the football program were shut down at Penn State perhaps the immoral people who still don’t get it will finally get it? Is that what it will take?
I already saw in another thread that somebody said they would be immediately discarding resumes that came from Penn State. We are in fact wasting our time because there is no logic behind anything like that.

The riot was reported to have 2,000 people (later it was said to be 5,000 to 7,000, but 2,000 was the most used statistic), and the vigil was reported to have 10,000 people. Both statistics, though, have no basis in reality. There were definitely way more than 2,000 people at the riot. The vigil 10,000 stat was almost certainly taken from when one of the speakers referred to there being 10,000 people there. The speech was prepared ahead of time, so it was obviously just a wild guess that the media ran with. Being at both, it’s hard to say which had more people. I’d say the vigil, but I can’t conclusively say. In any case, there was a blue-out in support of victims of child abuse that was attended by approximately 107,000. Not everyone participated in it (Nebraska fans still generally wore red), but the vast, vast majority of Penn State fans wore blue for this reason.

That’s not exactly accurate. According to a news report I heard last night, Sandusky and the two enablers were released on UNSECURED bonds which means they did not have to put up any money or collateral. They never went to jail, either. I believe they simply met with a magistrate and turned around and walked out. How’s that for justice?
