Cain: God convinced me to run for president
CBS News ^ | November 12, 2011 | Lindsey Boerma

ATLANTA, Ga. - Herman Cain, whose campaign could use some redemption in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal, told a crowd of young Republicans on Saturday that God convinced him to run for president and that he "prayed and prayed and prayed" about it.

The Republican contender made no mention of the allegations from former subordinates at the National Restaurant Association. But his comments here were accented with more than the usual references to his faith and his calling to politics.

"I prayed and prayed and prayed. I'm a man of faith, I had to do a lot of praying for this one, more praying than I'd ever done before in my life," Cain told a crowd of more than 100 at the Young Republican National Federation, an event hosted by the Georgia Young Republicans at the Westin Peachtree Plaza. "And when I finally realized that it was God saying that this is what I needed to do, I was like Moses: 'You've got the wrong man, Lord. Are you sure?'"

Once he made the decision to run, the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza said, "I did not look back. And one of the misperceptions that some people have (is) that I'm not in this to win it. I'm in this to win it, or I wouldn't be in it! I'm not going anywhere!"

Cain has repeatedly said in recent days he will stay in the race in spite of the swirl of accusations that have tarnished his campaign and halted his upward momentum in national polls. Four women who worked at the NRA claim that Cain sexually harassed them, and one of them, Sharon Bialek of Chicago, said he roughly grabbed her in a parked car in 1997 and propositioned her for sex.

With a Republican debate focused on foreign policy on tap for Saturday evening, Cain talked about the need to replace a "foggy foreign policy" with a reincarnation of the Reagan doctrine of "peace through strength and clarity." He also said he would "stop giving money to our enemies."

The debate among the eight major Republican candidates is at 8 p.m. and is hosted by National Journal and CBS News.

I have a deep faith in prayer and also know that sometimes God says NO! Prayer still answered.

Not only does the Creator of Heaven and Earth answer prayer, but He works miracles every day. I am the grateful receiver of many of them during my lifetime. Yes, real miracles!

Let’s bring out our most powerful tool for helping Herman Cain: PRAYING that God protects him from the people of darkness.

“Yet the righteous will hold to his way, and he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger. Job 17:9

When a person has taken care of his character, his reputation will take care of itself.

Herman Cain ran for public office several times, including a campaign in 2000 for President and 2004 for Senator, neither of which were successful.

Quote from the left-wing media:

"Herman Cain, whose campaign could use some redemption in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal..."

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SCANDAL! There are merely two attention-seeking women who for their own reasons are stating that "something" happened, which is impossible to prove or disprove, but which is contrary to the entire experience of many people who have known this man and his character for years. There could only be a scandal if this were true, and the use of the word here is inflammatory and yet another example of journalistic incompetence.

What's your problem, sir?

Are the recipients of your post to me the FReeper committee?

I'm a conservative voicing my opinion. Maybe I am not as smart as you or have the kind of insight you desire.

I feel like I need a set of FReeper Rules of Engagement before I post.

One last “paragraph” - don't need to read or respond to my posts.....carry on.

The Perrybots were ripping on Michele Bachmann for saying something to this effect. Then Perry started playing up beinga a practicing Christian and suddenly it was OKAY to say your faith motivated you to run and you talk to Jesus, etc., etc. In fact, if you opposed Perry, that means you “hate Christians”

I’m happy to say that I was for Herman Cain before he was a front runner in the polls. The more I see of him, the more I believe he would be a good president. In a way, its good that we got the bimbo eruptions out of the way before the primaries. It will be yesterday’s news within a week, and won’t be fodder for an October surprise by the Obama thugs. That’s the problem when you use your best stuff early. If it doesn’t take out the competition, you are out of ammunition when it counts.

Someone please tell me he was speaking figuratively. I don't see in the article that he actually said God told him anything. If God is talking to him, he's a nut and will lose the election handily. I don't blame people in our society for being religious, but actually hearing voices in your head is not a good thing.
Yes, I am a Cain supporter. However, if God is talking to him, I am leaping off the Cain Train...

So? What’s your point?

In hindsight, it’s clear why the Senate run wasn’t meant to be - he was dx with cancer the next year.

If people only realized the truth about the discovery and colonization of our country! The Light and the Glory, by Peter Marshall and David Emanuel tells the thoroughly documented early history of our country. The TRUE story!

God led Columbus here, whereupon Columbus brought the pilgrims, including my ancestors, to these shores, where the first Indian they met spoke to them in English! Yes, Squanto had been taken to England where he learned to speak English before the pilgrims arrived. Some shock, huh?

Our early sacred documents were devised by God and man, and our laws were based on the premise the American people would be Christian. So for years now the leftists have been trying to kill God and replace those documents with the Devil’s swill!

Herman Cain has listened to and obeyed Him all his life, and Herman Cain has not done too badly, has he?! Praise God!

God talks to his own.

You came to the wrong place if your intention is to attack God’s elect; Freerepublic is owned by a devout Christian, and is a solid Christian site.

We wouldn’t want Cain as president if we didn’t believe that God talks to him. If he doesn’t talk to you, I’m not particularly surprised, looking at your posting.
