Polls: Gingrich Grows on GOP Voters (Gingrich now in Second in Several Polls)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 11-11-11 | Mary Lu Carnevale

Posted on 11/11/2011 9:32:30 AM PST by TitansAFC

Two polls out Friday show former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s campaign gaining traction. And both polls show there’s plenty of room for the race to change dramatically: 17% of respondents are undecided.

A McClatchy-Marist poll of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents finds that Mitt Romney’s poll numbers remain steady – he generally garners the support of about a quarter of the Republican and Republican-leaning voters. That puts him in the lead, with Mr. Gingrich in second and former front-runner Herman Cain close behind.

By the numbers: Mr. Romney, 23%; Mr. Gingrich, 19%; Mr. Cain, 17%;Texas Rep. Ron Paul 10%; Texas Gov. Rick Perry, 8%, and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, 5%. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum got 1% apiece.

It’ll come down to a three way race: Romney, Gingrich and Cain. History favors Romney. But things could still be shaken up in the coming year.

No but enjoy your moment in the sun. It's a media push poll hoping to push the media spin. Hardly a serious poll. Let see if anyone else's poll matches this.

The survey of 347 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents was conducted Tuesday-Thursday and had a margin of error of plus or minus 5.5 percentage points.

There are a lot of things I like about Newt, but let’s be realistic here. Obama and the vicious Dems with the full support of the corrupt MSM would eat Gingrich alive!

His Medicare “withering on the vine” comment will again be misconstrued and used to scare grandma. Government shut down and other such issues too numerous to even contemplate!

Nice try at spin. However if you bother to read your own story, Gingrich is in 2nd in 1 poll.

Do people have collective amnesia as to what they did to Newt back in 1995, and Newt quit rather than fought?

Woot! If Perry can’t pull it off I’m sure hoping Gingrich will!

This is not going to result in anything good, if at all.

95 hell, he was pushing global warming legislation as far back as 87 or so. Co sponsoring it in fact.

I was just referring to what the MSM did to him......it’s like they’re saying, “Don’t make us come over there and kick your a$$ again.”

FWIW. On this date 4 years ago:

RCP Average 11/11/2007

Giuliani 29.4

Thompson 17.0

McCain 15.0

Romney 12.4

Huckabee 9.0

Paul 3.8

There is still plenty of time for a big shake up.

Newt is now in second place in SEVERAL polls!!!!!!!!!!

Not surprised as we've watched his slow and easy climb. He is very interesting to watch as he garners supporters and moves throughout this primary. Although polls can change in a heartbeat it's great seeing him come thru the rank and file as he has.

I also noted Newt is getting a lot of coverage now....and as more people hear him I have no doubt there will be crossovers to Newt from other canidates.

I suspect Newt's baggage will soon be dumped in mass across the media....it just goes with the territory as we've seen with all other candidates.

Nothing wrong with Newt except perhaps...

“Social engineering from the right just as bad”
“for healthcare mandates before he is against it”
“for man made global warming before he is against it”
“Medicare withering on the vine”
“3 marriages all in 1 life time, with some adultery included”

But then Newt was largely responsible for 1994 crushing of democrats. Never mind that republicans got spanked in 1998 and Newt was forced out. Newt is a good debater and knows inner workings of congress.

My conclusion: Newt certainly should have a meaningful position in next republican admin, I just do not trust him in the top position.
