I forgot that I did get something from Comcast saying this could cause trouble with the Comcast box. Of course, I don’t have a Comcast box (I use a card in my Tivo. It’s odd to me that this broadcast is causing these problems. WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?

All I got was a nasally female voice that said “Never Mind”.

Creepy!

Yep now its working fine. Now I have read about sometimes EAS alerts locking up the boxes but here in LA we get alerts all the time(Weather alerts) and never had an issue with it freezing before

Where were you? In my community (Tacoma), the cable system worked perfectly...and when it was over, normal programming came on fine. What happened to you?

In ‘62 and ‘73 we had a civil defense program, plus CONELRAD radio alerts.

Neither of your events developed into an emergency, though.

Look up teh old propaganda film “Our Cities Must Fight”, this is still our stance. Keep the populace in the dark until the last minute, then tell them to shelter in place. The goal is to get emergency gear out of target cities, and they want the streets clear to do this. If nukes were launched, you’d hear about it 10 mins before impact, so they can get cops and fire trucks and medical supplies out.

Mid Missouri here. I have Centurylink Prism tv as well. Forget what program I was watching but never saw any emergency black out or 30 second event. I DID see some scrolling letters across the upper left of my screen saying something like "this has been a test...". The program was still going on as usual when the letters came across.

So far as I can tell, I never had the cable lock up on me as I've heard others say. I have a ham radio scanner that runs on batteries as well as ac that I can count on for a REAL emergency. Use it a lot during storms, etc.

The gym TVs were beeping while I was on the way out. Otherwise I’d have never even noticed. I like it when the world spins on without me.

Da-yum!

Just Da-yum!

Right in the middle of a wire transfer from a new found friend in Nigeria this EAS crap screws everything up!

Barrister Nmbwahaha assures me he will try again though.

I'm gonna be rich!

I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I will be at the South Street Seaport everyday at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky. If you are out there... if anyone is out there... I can provide food, I can provide shelter, I can provide security. If there’s anybody out there... anybody... please. You are not alone.

“The Day After Tomorrow” was a joke.

Now “Threads”, that had me crapping in my pants, especially when they showed the real-life “Protect and Survive” PSAs, those alone were creepy enough.

The existing LOCAL systems work fine. What does FedGov bring to this?

Interstate coordination. Single point of initiation is not a bad thing.

And as I noted, Congress has a Constitutional mandate to institute procedures for calling out all able-bodied citizens for national protection.

Which emergency of ours in the last 80 years would have benefited from a national warning system?

It's not past emergencies at issue, it's future ones.

Just because you never had a house burn down doesn't mean you get rid of the fire extinguishers.
