Republican 2012 presidential candidates Republican 2012 presidential candidates Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich met in a Lincoln-Douglas style debate on current economic and social issues facing the U.S.
OK, I’m now on the part of the re-broadcast where they are talking about unemployment insurance. And I think both of them faltered in this discussion, although what they said was red meat for the audience.
Realise that “unemployment insurance” has been corrupted by this administration, and a lot of what they said dealt with that corruption of the plan.
But “unemployment insurance” is exactly that. It is an insurance plan, funded by money paid by employeers for each employee. It is meant to provide payments to those employees if the employer has to lay them off for any reason, so they have money while they look for a new job.
There’s no reason what a person collecting THAT form of unemployment insurance should be forced to jump through federal government hoops to keep collecting. And Cain said the “2nd time around” they should only get 13 weeks — but it’s not the employee’s fault if they get a job with another employer, and then THAT employer has to lay them off. So why should each subsequent layoff provide less for insurance?
I wish one of them had pointed out that they were talking NOT about basic unemployment insurance, but the special extra money the federal government threw at the problem.
I did love Cain’s comment about people sitting around waiting for Obama to create a job for them.
Well, at least we won’t be hearing Perry called a RINO anymore. Since Gingrich and Cain call for his exact prescription.
Well, I hope the debate airs again, I was distracted during most of it.
Aye, aye, aye....
He couldn't even tear Mitt a new one, on a stage full of like-minded Republicans. He bumbled and stumbled all over the place. What makes you think he'd be any match for the Chicago Smoothie?
I was not that impressed with Cain or Gingrich parroting Perry’s well known stance.
Great. One of getting a couple of things passed after 9 years of giving Texas away to his cronies.
Bingo.
What are you saying really. You didn’t like these guys talking about their opinions or what? You do understand that it is not a compunction to support their views, correct?
You got your lawyer on speed dial, pumpkin?
Let me doctor up a cup of tea for you as you file....by the way, did I hear you say you were treating the girls to a Whopper today? If so, I'd prefer a Fish O Lay.
later...............
That is the problem. Most people don't like to see someone torn up. When that happens they are more likely to defend that person. When differences are shown in a mild mannered but firm way that what the opposition is doing is destroying the country more people will listen.
Umm... “Fed up” came out before anyone heard of Herman Cain.
Herman flip flopped on the fence.
Perry also had an interesting nickname as a Democrat representative...
Well known? Wow! I can see that in his poll numbers!
And Newt plays footsie with Pelosi and Cain is a fan of Mittens.
We got some serious cognitive dissonance going on here, man.
So did Perry. He called them silly in 2009.
...and why there are two alternatives to Mittwitt.
Rick came across as lost in the ‘debate’ format, which is quite human, but not acceptable at the level of candidacy he’s seeking.
What I am saying is these guys are parroting Perry, and slapping each other on the back like they thought of it first.
