When Herman Cain accused Texas Gov. Rick Perry of leaking damaging information about his rival last night, there was little love lost.
Sources say there is no personal animosity between the two candidates. But Cain, in deflecting attention away from himself in this controversy, seized on a familiar target.
Perrys campaign has adamantly denied any involvement in a Politico story revealing sexual harassment allegations against Cain from his time at the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. Not only did Cain suggest that Perry might be behind the leak he stated it as a fact, despite a lack of concrete evidence.
We now know and have been able to trace it back to the Perry campaign that stirred this up, in order to discredit me and slow us down, Cain told supporters on a phone call Wednesday night. Cains chief of staff called the Perry campaigns actions despicable.
While its the most sensational by far, it isnt Cains first attack on Perry.
In September, Cain said he could not at that moment support Perry as the nominee for a host of reasons. Chief among them was the governors support for in-state tuition breaks for undocumented immigrants.
If Governor Perry gets the nomination, I will still support him, but it wont be 100 percent, he later elaborated. Hes also called Perry a career politician who doesnt deserve credit for Texas business-friendly culture.
Cains demand of purity from Perry is somewhat odd, given Cains own vacillations on numerous issues. Moreover, Cain has said that he would stand behind former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (who he endorsed in 2008) despite that candidates many past deviations from conservative orthodoxy.

Perhaps, CW, you may stop this incessant trashing of HC. Your boy has resoundingly proven himself an incompetent.
10/03/11: All I said was the mere fact that that word was there was insensitive, Cain said outside Trump Tower in Manhattan, N.Y., according to the National Review. Thats not playing the race card. I am not attacking Gov. Perry. Some people in the media want to attack him. Im done with that issue!
I’m trashing no one.
I’m defending the person he’s trashing to get himself out of the headlines.
Washington Compost???!!! Really???!!!
Geez!
Herman Cain is a good judge of character.
Comment on it!
Say something!
Criticize the content!
Do your worst!
But just dismissing it because it’s in the Washington Post won’t cut it.
I was just going to post that when I saw yours.
So ditto...
Until Cain clears up what happened at his old job I can’t support him or encourage others to vote for him.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

So Romney is a good choice for the GOP nomination according to Cain?
How about the “mainstream” media will do pretty much anything to sow dissent amongst Republicans and conservatives and to destroy our candidates. Lucky for them we seem to be helping their effort.
Good luck with that, love is blind...
One of the things I like about the guy...
I’d support a Cain/Newt ticket or Newt/Cain ticket.
It won't be his last. He probably can't stand a Christian who actually thinks you should walk the talk.
Good judge of Character...
Cain needs to grit up his loins and be a man. Not only is he lying, he is pointing his finger all around him instead of what he should have done in the first place. Admit his error ask forgiveness and moved on. Now he is using rules for radicals as a tactic. Boy, we do not need another obama or a clinton in the WH with a R after his name.
Wow are you offended because I have seen anti Perry trash posted on Fr from Mother Jones and the New Republic.
“Lucky for them we seem to be helping their effort.”
I’d say LEADING the effort. All the libs, including the WaPo, have to do is report what the R’s are doing to each other.
