Free Republic founder Jim Robinson has a message for supporters of Mitt Romney: go away.
In an email to POLITICO this afternoon, Robinson admitted that the site routinely blocks Romney supporters from posting -- and offered no apologies for the practice:
Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency.

Should I?
I can’t see how anyone could support Romney and call themselves conservative. We don’t all think in lockstep certainly, and I am by no means a one issue voter, but Romney is nothing but a pawn of the liberal political establishment. He is a career politician driven by his love for power — not his love for country.
Your posts are tedious and vapid.
The day FR becomes a site for a bunch of us conservatives to sit around and praise each other, is the day I leave...
As long as I've been around, it HAS been a place for informative, often confrontational and edgy DEBATE. No.. not a stuffy debating society. But, a place where facts get presented and discussed... where learning happens..
It's a big part of what's made FR special... .
Sadly, I think it's a dying part.
“You don’t fear a man who changes positions like underwear and shares some of the same positions as Obama?!”
Why on earth would I fear a man of such obvious weakness?
By all means, if you are unprepared to defeat the enemy, then get under the bed with JR.
I can kick Mitt’s ass with half your freedom tied behind Jim’s back.
I agree. No, I don’t like disruptive types, but it seems to me that FR is a forum. Hard to have a forum when you kick out those with opposite viewpoints. If we’re right, we’ll beat ‘em in the debate in the forum of ideas.
How many times does Jim have to state that FR is not a liberal debating society? It is a conservative activist site. What about that and private property don't you understand?
Why ban a man who genuinely supports the Constitution and maximum individual freedom?
Thank you, Jim Rob. I find it amusing that some of the complainers describe the FR tent as getting too small ... at post two-hundred fifty something!
I am a Cain supporter who encourages civility with the Perry and Bachmann etc. folks. Even the Perry supporters who are less than civil bring up legitimate points.
I have found too many Romney supporters to be disingenuous in their approach, in part because of this site’s attitude towards him, but also because of natural inclination. So, instead of having an honest argument or heated discussion, one has to suspect dishonesty and manipulation. This causes a hair-trigger reaction regarding others who are not Romney supporters, but have decided that it is better to go with RINOs (construed narrowly) than Dems in all cases.
Any one who believes in private property knows that it is next to impossible to have an abuse of power in your own castle. We are here at your sufferance, and happy to be so.
There is a difference between an Obama-bot... and, someone who tries to defend their point of view.
Frankly.. in the past few years, I have spent MORE time making posts on boards where some libs are around... I prefer to CONVERT people, rather than to just sing in the choir.
The problem is that it’s repeating the exact thing that so many of us are against when liberals do it, but apparently it’s ok when our side does it in this case?
Talk about the height of hypocrisy.
I’ve said many times here, Romney isn’t my guy but if it’s Romney vs Obama, Romney is getting my vote. I will not just side idly by and not vote or waste it on a 3rd party candidate to see Obama get four more years. It seems many people here at Free Republic are saying 4 more years is just fine by them.
I don’t understand why people would embrace a 100% liberal ideologue like Obama over a 60% conservative over Romney. I get it, Romney is not “pure” conservative...neither was Reagan. I’ll let this all sort out, but if Romney is the nominee than he gets the vote over Obama.
Free Republic is pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-constitution, pro-limited government.
We are a grassroots conservative activist site fighting for pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-constitution, pro-limited government causes and candidates.
What part of Romney is none of the above do you not understand? And why do you think pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-constitution, pro-limited government Free Republic should support a candidate whose record is completely opposite to our stated principles and goals?
It is not a complaint. It is an observation.
Jim has every right to run this site as he sees fit. It does not change my opinion. I am not asking him to do anything.
“Your posts are tedious and vapid.”
True that...and with a chip of that size on his shoulder, ‘tis a wonder he can post at all. ; )
Amen...it absolutely weakens FR.
There is NO debate when the subject is Romney.
OK, but PapaNew’s point above is good.
And if “non-believers” are not permitted, then all this site will become is one that preaches to the choir—an INBRED, GENETICALLY DECLINING GROUP. (Reminds me of what my bro-in-law says of many of the residents of his unnamed state!).
I wonder how many of these people actually READ what’s posted. *shaking head*
