Rick Perry Pushes Energy Industry at Iowa Manufacturing Forum
ABC News ^ | November 1, 2011

PELLA, Iowa –.... “You can open these Western lands for the energy side of things and putting some people back to work almost immediately.”

...“From Washington, D.C., I do not think it is the federal government’s business to be picking winners and losers, frankly, in any of our energy sources. I mean, these two solar debacles that we’ve seen are pretty good examples of that, but if a state wants to, we put into place in the state of Texas an incentive for renewables and the wind energy came in and took great advantage of. That’s the reason we became the number one energy producing state in the country.”

... ”Let’s quit penalizing Americans for making money. Quit fighting this fight that we’re fighting on divisions between those that have money and those that don’t. I want everybody to have more money,...

“In Texas or in Iowa or whatever state it is, we know that the way that you create jobs is by not overtaxing, over-regulating, or over-litigating,...It’s worked in the state of Texas for a decade. I think we’re the 15th largest economy in the world. If it’ll work in Texas, it’ll work in this country.”

...“I think it’s costing way too much money for a young person to go through four years of college. We have allowed way too much cost to creep into the cost of tuition,....I laid out an idea this last year that we ought to be able to deliver a degree that costs $10,000, total. Now there were a whole lot of people whose jaws hit the ground, and most of them are working on college campuses, but the fact is we ought to really be bringing it home that we’re charging way too much money for the education we’re giving our kids.”

Faculty Lounge - A tale of Sherpas and superstars [Perry's Higher Education Reform] ….”What Governor Perry actually proposed was this: 1) Students’ evaluations and some other information about faculty performance should be made public; 2) The best teachers should receive bonuses, based in part on students’ ratings; 3) The research and academic budgets should be separated, with teachers paid according to their teaching duties and researchers paid in proportion to the funding they attract; 4) Faculty should have to show that they can in fact teach before they are granted tenure; 5) Students should receive a personalized “learning contract” upon enrollment, along with information about the graduation rates and average starting salaries for students with the same major and comparable SAT scores; 6) Legislative appropriations should go to students directly rather than to the universities; 7) The universities should support an effort to develop a new national accreditation program that would evaluate institutions on measurable student progress.

You’d think that No. 6 would be the deal-breaker — it would have voucherized higher education, forcing the universities to compete for students and the dollars they bring with them, rather than treating students like not-entirely-welcome guests who are privileged to be at the party. But the reformers didn’t even make it that far down the list: No. 1 sent academia into fits.”……

This interview was so good. It made me excited not for Perry but for America. When he said essentially "I am not really interested in opening markets overseas for our energy as I am in making us secure with our own supply" I started clapping.

Man this is good a good plan for our country.

The article said Perry will be at Drake’s Diner [Des Moines] today, then at an education and economic town hall in the afternoon.

I hope a video and transcript will be made available.

Big windy Perry is blowin’ smoke again. When is he going to go after the failed high risk green wind energy firms that he loaned taxpayer money to for jobs?

LaRaza Rick has as much chance of being President as Secretariat has winning next year's Kentucky Derby.

Why don't you Texans do something useful, like counting illegals in your state? That should keep you busy for a long time.

Rick was talking energy in Iowa, I didn't see any mention of Biofuels? Where's he stand on ethanol?

Security starts with a fence on the southern border and stopping spending billions on illegals. We will be bankrupt long before any wild ass dream of energy independence is ever reached. Pipe dream perry.

Perry wants a “level playing field” & an end to ethanol mandate (audio)

......"“We don’t need to have government picking winners and losers in this business,” Perry said during a news conference in Des Moines. “Let the folks get out there with the regulations off their back. I have a good idea that the farmers in Iowa can compete with anybody in the world.”.......

One of the things I hate about Obama is the blatant cronyism of his administration.

It is in your face.

Perry does the same incestuous kind of dealing. Maybe he isn’t all bad, but his deals are a dealbreaker. And they should be to anyone who is tired of the Obama admin antics.

Thr Gardasil issue should be a red flag to lookout below.

The more you look into Perry, the worse it gets. Just because he sports a R by his name doesn’t make crony politics any sweeter.

There were no “sexual antics” regarding Cain, and it is disingenuous to post a link to the Communist New Network who has changed the narrative to “sexual antics”.

Are you trying to admit the Perry's camp started the Cain sex allegation. Seems to me that is what you have just done. Attack Cain on a fake sex charge to build up perry. Come on tell use.

Perry always picks winners and losers. He and his pay for play buddies make sure of it.

How quaint. LOL

Can you even begin to tell me who has the plan of the fence that you are voting for?

Cain came out Sunday on Face the Nation and basically stole Perry's border security plan from the last debate. He even said there would not only not be an entire border fence but it probably wouldn't be electric either.

i know Bachman stated she wants the 2000 mile fence. Until Face the Nation on Sunday Cain and Romney haven't really had to confirm this although Cain has insinuated it. Now we know he was just talking out his ass again.
