Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi has been charged with felony grand theft after allegedly being caught by security officers stealing nearly $2,500 in clothing from a San Francisco Neiman Marcus store.
The 45-year-old Castro Valley Democrat, wife of a Bay Area judge, pleaded not guilty Thursday in San Francisco Superior Court and is free on $15,000 bail pending further proceedings Nov. 15.
"The incident in San Francisco was a mistake and a misunderstanding," Singer said. "The assemblywoman strongly believes in the justice system and is hopeful that this matter will be cleared up soon."

You can’t expect her to wear all the latest styles on a government salary, can you? < /libtard sarc>
Next on the shoplifting list is the most LIEberal DemoRat judge they can find to hear the case.
Damn right it was a mistake. Someone forgot to tell the security guard the this woman is a privileged Dem and is not to be prosecuted.
She walks after stealing $2500 worth of clothes, yet a pregnant woman goes to jail and has her 3 year old handed over to CPS because she ate a couple of $2.50 sandwiches and forgot to ring them up after paying for her groceries.
Entitlement mentality at its finest shown on both sides of the cell door here.
You know I could understand something a small being forgot and walking out without paying but that much clothing being stolen is no mistake....
Husband and wife California public “service” employees...holy cow. If you add up their benefits and pension, these people are the equivalent of mega multimillionaires. No wonder she got 3 items for $2.5K.
What’s the over/under on how soon Nieman Marcus sends her a letter of apology for the shameless way their former employee treated her?
For me to even attempt to steal $2,500 dollars worth of the clothing I wear, I would have to take my pickup into the store with me to carry it away in.
I guess the money Ms Hayashi would have saved as a result of this little venture would have helped her fund her Christmas shopping, though. That’s getting to be pretty expensive for Assemblyman and non-Assemblyman, alike.
That could all be her MO, a set up in case she got caught.
Get out the Whitewash Tom Sawyer, you have a big job to do.
It’s a little more than a ham sandwich she forgot to pay for.
Don’t you know who I am? It’s not stealing when we do it.
I noticed that, too.....
opppsss...must be a "mistake" by the (dead tree) media
I guarantee that my entire closet, including shoes and coats, does not total $2500.00. Apparently shopping in a frugal manner and buying items based on their longevity is no longer en vogue. I dress well, but make great use of clearance racks and buying at the end of the season - at a 90% reduction.
“Apparently considers herself above the law, as do most politicians these days.”
No suprise. This is typical of every politician, regardless of party affiliation.
Rules? Laws? Ethics? Morals?
Nah, those are things for the little people, breeders, mouth breathers and mortals to worry about. Politicians are far too important and lofty to worry about following the rules. To wit, I forget which Democrat asshat said it, but believe it was a twit from Michigan that said: “Rules? There are no rules. We just make them up as we go.”
That says everything we need to know about the ruling class.

P.S.: I wouldn’t urinate in a politician’s mouth if his/her teeth were on fire.
she helped hey hubby win a Judgeship with over 200K from her own campaign warchest..
On her way to vote after taking too much Ambien the night before....cant be a thief she is immune. Her enemy is the video.
Were the black leather pants his size
You read my mind. :-)
Kind of makes you wonder how many other times she may have had similar memory lapses, huh?
