The Curious Timing of the Herman Cain Accusation (Could a GOP campaign be the source)
American Thinker ^ | 11/01/2011 | J. Robert Smith

For Herman Cain, forget the treats; just bring on the tricks.

Republican presidential contender Herman Cain is the subject of a bombshell accusation on Halloween day that he sexually harassed two women during his tenure at the National Restaurant Association. Cain stoutly denies the charges.

The curious thing about the accusations against Cain are their timing. Why now? Why did Politico break the news now, as opposed to weeks before or later, if Cain secured the GOP presidential nomination? Did Politico only obtain the story now, or had it been sitting on the report for a while? Why now?

Early opinion among conservative leaders is that the fossil media is up to its old tricks in reporting allegations of sexual harassment against Cain. Politico is serving as the cat's paw for its liberal allies and the Democrat Party, goes the thinking. This could be. The fossil media - Politico included - may have determined that Cain poses a potent threat to Barack Obama's presidency and that he had to be politically offed now before he gained any more momentum. A Cain presidency could shake liberaldom, the race industry, and the Democratic Party to its foundations.

But there's another consideration to make in the Cain attack. Who benefits immediately from bursting Cain's fast-rising presidential balloon? Why, Cain's Republican rivals. Sherlock Holmes wasn't about sleuthing for the obvious suspects, nor should those following the Cain story as it unfolds. It may be worth investigating Cain's GOP rivals, who have every reason to facilitate

I think it’s Perry’s people, looking for payback for Cain’s attempt to discreetly but definitely toss a bit of gasoline onto the “hunting lodge” flap.

Guarenteed. My guess would be Piece-Of-Mitt Romney.

Sherlock Holmes would have considered the dog barking (or not).

Whenever Team Romney had rumors they wanted to start about other candidates,
Jonathan Martin has been their go-to guy to get those rumors in writing in front of a national audience.

“And The Most Irresponsible Journalist Award Goes to The Politico’s Jonathan Martin!
So tell me, how do you write a “news” story about an organization paying for a speaker when you don’t even know if the organization is paying for the speaker?
Ask “journalist” Jonathan Martin. He knows all about it.
You see, Jonny wrote a piss poor story the other day about how the Iowa Family Policy Center will be paying a large speaker fee if Sarah Palin comes to Iowa to keynote the IFPC’s fall funderaiser.
The only problem is that Jonny has no sources confirming that any exorbitant fee is being charged or paid.
Jonny also got some inside info from David Kochel, who was a top aide to former (and future) presidential candidate, Mitt Romney.
Hey Dave, didn’t I just read a story about how Mitt Romney tried to buy off the Iowa Christian Alliance?
I heard you helped facilitate that little scheme. And somehow you are shocked at the thought of a well-known political figure (who very likely isn’t running for president) getting paid a speaker’s fee for (gasp) a public speaking appearance? ..
and then we’ve got Tim Albrecht quoted. He was the Iowa spokesman for Romney’s 2008 caucus campaign.”
And it always seemed like, whenever the Romney people had rumors they wanted to start about other candidates,
Jonny was their go-to guy to get those rumors in writing in front of a national audience.

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

I am convinced this came from a GOP campaign. There is no reason for the left to do this now. They would save it for later.

Romney would be my top suspect. He has motive, means, and opportunity. Perry and even Bachmann would also be brought in for questioning.

I don’t think it came from another GOP campaign. Time line doesn’t work. Politico said they asked Cain TEN DAYS ago for a comment. That means they had to spend a few weeks runnign down the story, finding the people. So, they first got tipped to the story about Oct 1, if not earlier. Cain hadn’t really taken off at the time...his surge started later..

It does not matter. These types of things need to be vetted and discussed about a candidate.

The bigger problem was Cain’s bumbling all day with “make up as I go” responses to the issue and questions. That bothers me a whole lot more about him and has forever. He just does not have any consistency and thoughtfulness.

I disagree. Romney needs Cain to stick around through the early primaries to counter Perry and Newt. This is a little early. My bet would be on Perry, since Cain is taking conservative support from him.

I think it is past time someone start questioning Rove about what his ties are to specific campaigns.

He claims to be an “objective” commentator. Fine, then let him clear up the questions about his contacts with other GOP Candidates campaigns

The other thing credible journalists might want to press Rove to clear up just what his role was in the robo-call smear campaign against John McCain in South Carolina prior to the 2000 GOP primary.

Rove needs to put these questions to bed by releasing any documentation he has clearing up the allegations that he staged that the smear job against McCain.

(Note to the Rovebots, how do you like being on the receiving end of your own media tactics for a change?)

Just ask who has the most to gain from this.

Remember we are much closer to the primaries so would Obama gain at this point vs. firing this off in the general..

Actually his not handling it like a politician is what I like about him. It isn’t as easy as it seems even for a pro like Bush and the drunk driving charge.

How many times you going to let these charges work?

Pray for America

If it were the ‘rats, they would either wait until Oct 2012,

or they’d trying to derail him before he gets that far.

The latter is probably the case. They truly hate and fear this man.

Romney. Romney would sell out his own grandmother, wife or children.
Romney is John Edwards with grayer hair.

But then again; rather have it come out now then next fall right before the election..

It would have come out at some point; better now than later if Cain gets the nomination.

They (the left) don’t even want to have to face this guy,
so it’s possible they would try to take him out early.

Facts need to be discussed and vetted. Lying smear jobs based on rumor and innundo are not vetting.

The fact that Politico and Rove cannot back up any of their lying smears here demonstrate this is a gutter slime whisper campaign, not vetting.

Time for the accusers to either put up or shut up. They have made an accusation, Cain has refuted it. So now their either need to document their accusation or recant it.

I don’t have any doubt it was the slithering GOP.

They want Herman out asap.

They want Obama re-elected.

The GOP is the enemey of conservatives and of freedom.

Exactly correct, all part of the vetting process. One of the appealing things about experienced candidates that the media hate like Sarah or Newt is that they are completely vetted, nothing left in the closet. Candidates new to the national scene are much more risky since just about everyone has stuff in the closet that they would like to keep in the closet.
